  1. Get a trackIR as soon as you can, it will make an enormous difference. As for your information overload, try to wrap your mind around the concept of HOTAS (while also mapping all those controls to your joystick and throttle). You'll find a list of the hotas commands in the controls menu. Although there are many hotas controls it's a good place to start, as they can control most of the avionics. I would also suggest picking the aspect of the sim that you find most interesting, be it weapons, navigation or just good old flying and study that first. This way it doesn't seem like work:smartass:! The pieces will fall into place, good luck! also: search the forums and ask questions, most people around here are very helpful
  2. First impressions of the release version: ...NICE WCMDs ftw!
  3. they have them at P.C. Richards, if you're near NYC
  4. you are not alone...:alien:
  5. Any reason not to use the uninstaller in the DCS folder? I noticed that it won't clear everything out. Any issues with that? Thanks
  6. Another long work day... I guess most of you guys in the states get the day off. No such luck for me ; ) Congrats to ED!
  7. Nice one! Reps away!
  8. you wont regret it! It can take some time to get used to, but after the leaning curve things start to get interesting
  9. Next time you folks fly commercial, on final approach, try spotting cars and people, the former being a lot easier. To make it a little more difficult make sure you are not just identifying a "car" but instead make and model. People, for me, are very difficult to spot unless they arevery close. Whenever I play the spotting "game" irl I'm reminded how easy it is to spot targets in the DCS universe. Mind you I'm using a 42" LCD TV...
  10. Not quite, my understanding is that neither laser operates in the visual spectrum. Both, I believe, are technically IR lasers. One is designed to pulse at a specified frequency to guide "laser guided" weapons home. The other is designed to be visible to night vision equipment and serves as a pointing device like most handheld lasers
  11. nice  Sounds a little more reliable then my method...
  12. Droping markspoints with the TAD is great for targeting, but where its really helped me is when I need to find a place to make an emergancy landing. With the TAD set in exp mode 1 or 2 (china hat fwrd Short with TAD as SOI), one gets a really excellent sense of the theater. Also, with the TAD in this mode, you (I :)) get a much better sense of your bearings relative to your target, or whatever you might be marking on your map.The top of your display is always North, the bottem Soulth etc. On a side note, does anyone know of a tutorial that describes (in depth) the symbology on the maps loaded into the TAD (not the TAD symbols, the ones drawn onto the moving map). Some of it is pretty straight forward but it would be nice to see it described in detail
  13. Like the way it's done in the sim Seven-G? (POV hat left not only makes you look left, but also makes your virtual head lean left)
  14. When you place your a10, under waypoint, it should say "turning point". Click on that drop down menu and select "start from ramp" (or something to that effect) That will place you at the nearest airport for a cold start.
  15. Yeah, New York state puts quite a high tax on Tabacco, especially in the city. It costs me $13.50 for a pack...
  16. Indeed, best $60 bucks I've ever spent. I spend more on cigarettes in a week...
  17. I believe this controls the HUD/MFCD recording, the controls don't work in game...but it'd be pretty cool if they did! Who knows maybe ED will get it working
  18. same here. It almost seems like the splash effects of the TP and HEI are swapped, as HEI seems to kick up almost nothing, and TP rounds seem to explode. The CM seems fine to me.
  19. *sorry for the hijack* Does anyone know how to drop a mark point with the TAD cursor? Is there a hotas command? Or do I have to get the coordinates and input manually?
  20. Quinncidence, thanks for posting. A properly calibrated stick makes a huge difference in game.
  21. Try using the mission editor. Once you place an a10c on the map you can edit the load-out in the payload tab
  22. Why the chaff countermeasures right before the strafe?
  23. +1 GAU 8 sounds awesome!
  24. I'm not 100% sure, but I think you're not alone with this issue. I don't have a solution for you except to suggest that you try some of the excellent YouTube tutorials made by some of our more prolific forum members (Tyger comes to mind). I'd think that the next few betas will iron these issues out.
