I've also noticed this new "feature" in 1.2.6. From what I can see in RL gun camera footage the effects are a bit exaggerated but I'm looking forward to hearing from the experts on this one.

An elegant solution :P

It also sounds like you are staying lined up with your targets for too long. If you're putting the gun pipper on a target at 3nm miles and firing at 1nm, that leaves an awfuly large window for the vehicle to shoot back. Try setting up your runs so that you turn on to your target and only have a second or two to line up the gun and fire (the technical term for this is "tracking time" iirc). This has greatly reduced the risk of getting shot up for me!

Really well done! Thanks for the mod

4 of us... But I think it will get ironed out further. From the kickstarter comments page:

The other option is to slave an AIM-9 to the TGP line of sight (assuming you have an AIM-9). That should make it so the A-A TGP line of sight has a small circle around it. ...given how tough it can be to slew the TGP in A-A mode while flying, I think Vipers idea is the best. The depressible pipper is a dashed circle that, by default, lives at the top of your HUD

I for one have been hoping that someone would make a map small enough that they could sacrifice vast terrain for extreme detail. Of course I'd prefer to have the entire planet modeled in a perfectly detailed and realistic way but I don't see that happening any time soon :) I don't know if this is relevant to RRG studios/EDGE engine but I'm guessing that a smaller map might be able to support a more detailed terrain mesh. That in turn might make Combined Arms into a more playable game, which would be absolutely awesome in my opinion. ...I know this might be a little controversial :D but I've been hoping that the an island map gets made eventually in the style of arma with highly detailed terrain and VAST sea area around it, with a few other small island airbase areas scattered around. I just want believable and detailed terrain!

DCS WWII: Europe 1944: Kickstarter Primer
SmokeyTheLung replied to luthier1's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
You are certainly not alone. The level of detail and immersion in clod is off the charts for me (especially in terms if the environment and effects). Hoping you can being some of that magic to DCS:WWII. You'll have my money once the kickstarter goes live! -
Am I crazy or did they add wing flex in the SU-27? It sure looked like it to me last night (I was pretty delirious after waiting for the update...worth it:D) Is anyone else only seeing the new wingtip vortices from an external view?

I love this one: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=110840 -
Good choice. Hard to go wrong with beach landings and hedgerow fighting. I never seem to get board of strafing the Normandy beaches in il2 cliffs of Dover

Can't wait for more info on the initial WWII terrain. One big map? Or a bunch of mid sized maps? Either way, awesome! :D

Exciting stuff!

Solution to pernicious targets. GBU31 X 4
SmokeyTheLung replied to DaveRindner's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
This was posted in one of the Wags updates... Maybe we'll get lucky and see it added to the A10s arsenal! http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=85653&d=1375461279 -
Assuming you're using appropriate weapons, the damage is persistent for as long as you stay on a server (I'm talking multiplayer of course) afaik. Bombs like the Beta AB-500shp will leave an unimpressive damage decal on the runway but if you try to take off and run over the crater say goodbye to your landing gear!

How do you know where enemy units are?
SmokeyTheLung replied to AhSoul's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
You certainly could but it probably wouldn't be very efficient. I think that a very big factor in your searching tactics would be the type of air defense units that the enemy has (this might be stated in the mission briefing, or you may have to poke and prod until your radar warning equipment starts chirping/your plane starts exploding :)). Assuming its just AAA, tanks and softer stuff, fly yourself towards where you think the enemy is (at a safe altitude) and start looking out the canopy as suggested before. You'll cover a lot more ground in a much shorter time frame (I'd recommend that you get the zoom view commands mapped to your joystick for this). Once you have a more refined sense of where you targets are you can get you targeting pod slaved for weapon delivery... Or just go in guns blazing like a real man! :D -
If navy can do it with C-130, we can do it in A-10
SmokeyTheLung replied to DaveRindner's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Lighten up! :) ...we weren't trying to write the book on a-10c carrier ops... We were just having a good time! -

SmokeyTheLung replied to DaveRindner's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
No wind was present when we filmed that! The carrier was moving at 25knots iirc, we couldn't accomplish it otherwise. Also, the gun stops working with weight on wheels, not when the gear is lowered. If you watch the entire vid you'll see that we eventually pulled it off without the GAU-air brake :D -
[DCS World - A10-C] - RWR Audio Expansion

Awesome work man! This is a must have mod for me. -
Definitely looking forward to this, however that feature set looks a little lofty! Time will tell...

It's available for multiplayer

Before you enter HUD only view try turning the displays off (there is a dial on the bezel of each display that will turn them off). That used to work.
