Next DCS (Russian) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List

Indeed, I must admit that my response to Tek was intended to be sarcastic. I probably shouldn't have posted it at all. -
Next DCS (Russian) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
SmokeyTheLung replied to Milene's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Good point -
Assuming that you have DCS world installed and that you want the English version of A10c; Get the serial number of DCS a10c from steam (IIRC you right click the game in your steam library) Download this:http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=product&ProductId=8&end_pos=136&lang=en Run the modules .exe to install it to world. Try running an A10c mission and you will be prompted to enter a serial number. Enter the same number you got from your steam install and you should be good to go

Back after a long break: Update path advice please
SmokeyTheLung replied to Bahger's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Hey Bahger, welcome back. Flew with you back in the 1st VFW, 25th Draggins (unfortunately disbanded now). I wouldn't worry too much about your old standalone installs (I wouldn't get rid of them just yet either). Download the latest version of DCS world and get it installed (its free). Then download the individual modules you own. These are small downloads... Grab your serials off EDs website and run the installers for the modules. If anything needs to get updated further, the auto-updater will take care of it. -
New su27 6dof cockpit to come!
SmokeyTheLung replied to falcon_120's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Awesome news about the Flanker! -
I don't think you're missing anything, TARS simply allows teamspeak/DCS users to coordinate radio channels in a more realistic way. The biggest benefit is not having to listen to inter-flight chit chat that may be irrelevant to what you/your flight is doing. You could also set up a common frequency for flight leads to coordinate the big picture. Pretty amazing piece of software for the right users. If you're more of a lone gun, jump into DCS/teamspeak to kill stuff kind of flyer, the benefits might be lost

Next DCS (Russian) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
SmokeyTheLung replied to Milene's topic in DCS Core Wish List
How does this = not about balance? You suggest that I'm biased (I most certainly am) but more importantly I'm trusting that ED is working to make a realistic simulator with the data available... Why don't you provide the data that you seem to be sitting on? Telling people on these boards that you don't need to back up your statements with proof because "they are true" is pretty silly/circular way to go about it. Also, can you give me some tips as to how to get my aim120s to "always" hit targets (without prior radar lock)? Because my experience has been quite different than yours. -

Fortunately (I hope), whining from one person to the tune of "My favorite plane/missile combo is out classed by another plane/missile, please change the game for the sake of balance" should probably be ignored. Not really sure why I'm getting involved in this argument... It's pretty ridiculous. @Teknetinium, come over to the dark side, start flying the 15 exclusively :D -
Maybe it's because the the p51 has six guns firing at once, at a higher rate (I think). I hope it can get worked out... The performance drop in the last few builds has been frustrating

My Warthog (joystick) drank a beer once. Seemed fine after I cleaned it with a towel, but it became sticky a day or so later... Had to disassemble and actually clean it. No more beer on the desk! Although I don't think the real problem was that beer, but the two beers before it :D

If the instructor was current/former USAF (pilot, not a grease monkey :D) and the cockpit was a legit A-10c cockpit with a wraparound projector... Maybe But basically no

Are you attempting to make a circular object with a center point to serve as a training target? If so, I've made a template (which I can upload later tonight) to do just that. I used the bunker object and made a trigger zone of an approximate size to serve as a circular reference and center point. Because of the 99 unit limit for ground unit groups I had to make the circle a little smaller than I wanted it, but despite being a tedious process it works to good effect

FC3 F15C loadout not changeable on the ramp?
SmokeyTheLung replied to Steel Jaw's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Noticed this myself last night in the su-27. Not sure what's up. Try using the new custom rearming menu, iirc it's LALT and ' to bring the menu up -
You actually can input markpoints directly into the flightplan build page. Just enter the letter that corresponds to the desired mark and the CDU will recognize that you want to enter a markpoint. You can also spell it out, I believe they are saved as MRK A, MRK B etc.

Some of the static object structures will allow you to spawn units "inside" and have them run out. Generally it's seems like the older looking objects are not clipable. Not sure if this is at all relevant to what you're trying to do.

Loosing HUD Under Certain Lighting Conditions
SmokeyTheLung replied to spn's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Are you using HDR? I'm noticing the same thing with HDR set to "cold colors." Mustang posted up a tweak to the sun bloom effect that has minimized the issue for me. I'm a little short for time but I'll try and find you a link, it may help a bit -
No doubt a fair point. Try replacing those 9 CBU 97s with 2 CBU 87s (a reasonable amount :D) and the problem still exists. Something needs to be optimized (or flat out redone) with the explosion effects, they have been a real frame-rate killer with the last few builds

Timing with AI wingman on gun runs
SmokeyTheLung replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I think multiplayer is the only way ...I'm sure that's not the answer you're looking for :) but it's all I've got -
When you say the z axis is disabled do you mean in the DCS controls page or trackir software? If its just in trackir software I'd recommend going into DCS controls/axis assign and unbind zoom from trackir (and anything else it might be bound to) and rebind it to the desired control. Should work I hope

A place to start would be using alt-tab to open you desktop and then re-open DCS. That might help. Also, try disabling/enabling the "aero interface" checkbox in the options menu. As for the aircraft skins, they can be selected in the mission editor. When you place (or select an existing) unit there will be a drop down menu on the right side of the screen with various liveries. Unfortunately I can't get more specific than that as I'm away from the home computer. If you can't figure it out I'd recommend looking at the GUI manual. That's located in the Docs folder (same place as the flight manual) and should have some instructions.

From extensive testing, 12nm is the longest range you'll get with the Mav. Altitude and speed should be the biggest factors in getting that amount of standoff. Climb to 20,000+ and go as fast as the hog goes :D

Su-25T shooting two Vikhr same time not working
SmokeyTheLung replied to D4n's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I must have read some of the same material that Maturin read. Basically, this I'd what I remember: The accuracy/reliability issues with Vikhr missiles is offset by low (compared to Hellfire) cost. Pilots are encouraged to fire them in pairs to up the chances of a hit/kill (and still "save" money when compared to the Hellfire). Can't remember the source, but I'm pretty sure it was the Internet...so you know it's true :D -
I'm getting roughly the same result. FPS are 1-10 with most weapon impacts.

Sorry in advance, as I'm not able to answer your questions with complete confidence... I think ED has the DRM in place for the reasons you mention (to hold on to potential sales lost to piracy). I too have a slight problem with "leasing" software, but I will say (with brevity :)) that all offerings from ED thus far have been worth the price of admission (and some). I've been enjoying DCS A10c for the last 2+ years and it's been worth many more times the price of admission. My best advice would be to give DCS World a try (free) and see what ED has to offer, you won't be disappointed :)
