  1. The MiG-29 bleeds energy fast when turning, it must be managed accordingly. If used on an angles fight it can surprise any opponent. I normally use that on a nose to nose head-on turn. It has an inferior radar, projected to be used with GCI. But, if used with team work (splits, drags, hooks..), or individually with energy fight, boom and zooms, using the very good acceleration and climb performance, it can be as dangerous as any other fighter. The MiG disadvantages are what make me appreciate flying it :)
  2. F-16 and MiG-29, any variants :)
  3. +1 I have Freetrack working on FC2, BS and A-10C, with Windows 7 64-bit. I just can't play anymore without head tracking.
  4. Nice collection, indeed. I liked a lot Steel Beasts, a good MBT simulation. It would be very interesting if ED consider integration of a land battle environment. For multiplayer on CAS it will be a must have.
  5. The 1st one was F-15 Strike Eagle II. I played it until addiction on a cousin 286 with an awesome 6 MHz processor! I had a lot of fun with other sims like DID EF2000 V2.0, F-22 ADF, F-22 TAW. I played Falcon 4.0 but enjoyed more the northern dark environment on Jane's F/A-18. I played FS2000 for some hours because of IFR flight training.
  6. Thank you guys :) I'll try it ASAP
  7. And he raised on the third day and blowned up all that nasty ZSU-23-4, SA-15 and SA-19!!!
  8. I'm trying not to go on a HOTAS for now. I'm using a T.16000M and as I used some other joysticks for years, including a MS Sidewinder and a friend's T.flight X, I assure you that the T.16000 it's a hell of a low budget buy, under 50$/€. It uses the same technology as the Warthog. For now I'm mapping the TMS, DMS, Boat and China with combinations of CTRL,Shift,Alt+hat switch. Compare: http://www.thrustmaster.com/product.aspx?ProductID=153&PlatformID=5 http://www.thrustmaster.com/product.aspx?ProductID=221&PlatformID=5 I'm also using ppjoy + freetrack and it works with 64 bit as a clock: no money spent on trackir.
  9. + 1 I like to be (well) paid for my work...
  10. I remembered another one unavoidable: Patton http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066206/
  11. There are already some references about great well known movies on my list: Paths of Glory Das Boot (the miniseries director's cut) Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb Hamburger Hill Platoon Full Metal Jacket Apocalypse Now Films not referenced yet: The Big Red One http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080437/ A Bridge Too Far http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075784/ The Pianist http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0253474/ We Were Soldiers http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0277434/ Master and Commander http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0311113/ Not really war movies, but I recommend: Hotel Rwanda http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0395169/ The Package http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098051/ Crimson Tide http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112740/ The Hunt for Red October http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099810/ The Sum of All Fears http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0164184/
  12. Jinro, is there somewhere where to find the lyrics in English? Japanese Ska... promising :)
  13. Hey Nate, please put the video on the Eagle Wiki. It seems good and self explanatory.
  14. OK, I saw the video. It seems a straightforward process. At least until starting populating with other objects like forests and infrastructures; but that will be a 2nd part. When I’ll have less work and some time I’ll give it a try.
  15. Red Five standing by! LMAO At least it could be better than bitching betty :D
  16. OMFG! Now I'm getting horny! Why I never saw yours, Batou and luckybob9 threads?????? I'm trained at remote sensing, including feature extraction, and a lot of raster (including terrains) and vectorial geodatabases creation and editing. I would love to start contributing on a Fulda Gap scenario (or helping editing whatever is necessary for faster results). There's a lot of vectorial data already freely available by OpenStreetMap for that region. I only have to discuss coordinate systems used and the availability of bigger resolution DTMs than SRTM three-arc-second. You use Globalmapper? I never used that software but I have experience with opensource in Linux environment like GRASS GIS and QGIS. I used for years ArcGIS ArcInfo on Windows. I never worked at this level (I think that at some point you use 3ds Max) but with some asks it will not be too difficult. The big problem for the next 2 or 3 months is that I don't have too much spare time. I'm starting to get out of hardships. I had a serious accident when I was finishing an master in GIS (UNIGIS) and I almost stopped working for more than a year to rehabilitate one knee. If you or someone else want to discuss something or want an opinion, be welcome.

  20. OK, here we go :) Some barouque. mLXvJZdY7Iw&fmt=18
  21. :) I was finishing to read the news and post about it at the same time, good coincidence. This story about Army Master Sgt. Roy P. Benavidez is awesome. All about camaraderie and bravery.
  22. Nobody referenced here this event, but for the importance of their story I think it has some space here. Major Richard "Dick" D. Winters, Company "E", 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, WW2 veteran , died January 2. After the book and miniseries “Band of Brothers” he always used Staff Sergeant Myron "Mike" Ranney's line to his grandson, when asked if he was a hero: “No,” Ranney said “but I served in a company of heroes.” For me, an example of a good soldier and leader, who experienced and learned to hate War. Like John Keegan wrote in “A History of Warfare”: “War is not the continuation of policy by other means”.
  23. Of course I would like to see a terrain mesh and textures with more resolution and detail. More terrain features and references will make target search from altitude more easy. But like Trident said, that depends of data availability and processing. In US, high resolution digital terrain data and aerial photography images are available for all of the country. That isn’t true for the rest of the world. And that isn’t enough for a final product. In Caucasus, the public available data that I know the existence are SRTM DTMs with three-arc-second (about 80-90 meters) resolution and Landsat TM satellite images, with 15 meters resolution for panchromatic images and 30 meters for multi-spectral images (convertible to 15 meters resolution by sharpening) . ED is using SRTM data for the elevation mesh. A standard Landsat TM WRS scene covers a land area approximately 185 kilomenters (across-track) by 180 kilometers (along-track). Like Trident said, their use presupposes atmospheric correction (easy), topographic normalization with correction for slope and aspect (difficult) and equalization between images. This is not the harshest work. The nightmare, like Trident said, is to register (make congruent) the vectorial database (roads, railroads, cities, forests) with this images. The model that ED is using is a vectorial one: assigning textures to vectorial objects. I'm not a programmer but I think that this is the better way to manage LODs. And I don't know if a hybrid model (vectorial-raster) is possible. Who played F-15 Strike Eagle II, EF2000 or even ADF/TAW, knows that we are light years distance from that. Someone talked about Storm of War. One friend which is addicted to that game told me that they are doing a 1:1 scale model of SE of England and NW of France, using aerial photography from that time. That must had taken an enormous amount of time. The ED designers certainly know all this. They have a difficult negotiation between quality, time and cost. But for what we are seeing on DCS A-10C they are on the right way. Keep the good work.
  24. Good for me :) I'm used to the soviet fighters and prefer it because of the low tech fun involved. I would prefer a 16 or a 29, but 159th_Viper is true: this is a hell of a plane to ride. And perhaps it is the consensual figther airplane. One step at a time, the next one could be radar and air to air missiles good models.
