solved Stutters and jitters in VR with RTX 4080 and 5800X3D
Dentedend10 replied to Dentedend10's topic in VR Bugs
So I’ve tried to access my BIOS options to change some of settings aforementioned. Unfortunately, Dell motherboards limit their BIOS settings quite a bit, so I wasn’t able to change CPU c state, or PBO. Ive just run Cinebench and the CPU is running as expected. in game it seems to be the case that whenever CPU frametimes struggle is when I’m getting the stuttering. Unfortunately, in the F14 this is constant, which is a shame. Seems like I’ll need to wait until CPU performance gets optimized. Weird that others have a smooth experience in the F14 with same CPU though. Other planes as I said are smoother -

Were you in VR or flatscreen? My experience is specifically in VR -

Thank you for your response. Now I’ve tried all points in that guide and in the F14 it’s still the same. Frametime of CPU is higher at times (12-25 Ms) with more red, but few dropped frames to none. Stutter is still present -

I’ve done point 2 and 3, I’ll give the first one a try next time. Didn’t really see a difference. went back to Vr Default settings to do some further testing. It almost seems like the CPU is still the bottleneck. Generally 12-14 ms frametime, around carrier goes to 30 ms though. tried to play around with motion smoothening on or off, no difference either. F18 and F16 look better now, F14 is still the worst. frames seem stable at 45 with motion smoothening on. Just wishing those stutters stopped. could it really be the CPU bottleneck? -

Hi, I have this CPU, although on a Dell motherboard (Alienware prebuilt). I'm getting lots of stuttering within the cockpit, seems like the more complicated the plane, the more stuttering (F14 lots vs P51D none). FPSVR monitoring tells me that normally CPU frametime is around 12-14 ms, while around the carrier it gets up to 30 ms. I've tried all kinds of optimizations to no avail. My best bet is still the CPU causing the stuttering (my GPU frametime is under 10 ms, GPu being always green, while CPU always having orange spikes, and completely red around the carrier). Anyone with similar issues? I'm running DCS stable version. Thanks -
Hi, I've been trying many different things to get some results to no avail. I've upgraded my system. I've gone through multiple optimization pages that I found here on the forum. Yet, anytime I move my head around in the cockpit I get stuttering and it is very much immersion-braking. I seem to get them in the more complicated jets more. P51D looks smooth on the inside. F14 is probably the worst. (Other than those I fly the F18 and F16). Monitoring tells me that GPU is doing fine (around 11 ms frametime), and most of the time so is the CPU (around same frametime, however, less consistent than my GPU). Sometimes I see red and higher frametimes in the CPU section in FPSVR. However, average FPS still says it's around 45 and usually there is few to no dropped frames. Yet, when I look around in the cockpit it always stutters. Recently I went through this optimization: https://vr4dcs.com/2020/12/24/how-to-nail-reverb-setup/ I also reinstalled DirectX11 and forcing it through SteamVR. The only optimization I cannot do on my system is running OpenXR ( I have motion sim and I need to be running SteamVR for motion compensation through SimRacingStudio). Any ideas what else I can try? I was really hoping to get a smooth experience with my recent updates Btw, I am running DCS stable version and Windows 10. Thank you for any suggestions in advance. Merry Chrismtas!

Game crashes when flying Cage the Bear - Cargo
Dentedend10 replied to Dentedend10's topic in Bugs and Problems
Just tried MiGCAP mission again on Operation Reforger. Completed the mission, freeze on RTB. I guess the reason is still not known then -
Hi, I’ve always had this issue and am wondering if this is something that is going to get implemented. The Hornet has great haptic feedback on the controllers when interacting with the cockpit. I am really missing that in the F14 cockpit. Any news is appreciated

Does DLSS work in VR then? I’ve seen sources where they claim it doesn’t. If it does, I’d be curious to see DLSS 3 in action

Interesting! Which headset are you using mostly? I have the G2 and was hoping the Varjo Aero would provide significant increase in quality of image (I'm not necessarily looking for performance boost) due to the foveated rendering, at least in the future when software implementation also occurs. Currently I'm holding off until I see a headset with foveated rendering, without base stations, and with controllers, that's also focused on gaming rather than business use

I don’t see it would track the eyes, will it? I would want a headset with foveated rendering for the future, even if DCS doesn’t currently support it

Game crashes when flying Cage the Bear - Cargo

I had a similar crash on Iron Heel - SC version, MiGCAP mission, after RTB. Wasn't sure where to report. Attached is the trackfile. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1BGdxALtE2hbEfw9zcFM1i0kRjQdYZ_xS?usp=sharing Thanks for the work! -
That makes a lot of sense, thanks guys!

I see what you are saying, that's how I would normally fly the descent too. However, for ACLS the autopilot needs to be engaged (is my understanding), so I just leave it on through descent expecting an ACLS landing. At around 6 nm is when I find out that I'm supposed to fly mode 2. Even if it's a glitch, sounds like a realistic scenario that you are expecting ACLS but then have to switch to manual. And that's why I was wondering if at that point I should switch autopilot completely off. The dampening makes sense, I won't be trying to land with autopilot on! (unless ACLS). Thanks!

Hey! Loving the campaign so far. I was on mission 2, and trying to VID the boats. I get within the range where I get the call from Jester that I'm within 15 nm and I can use PAL to find the ships. However, I could not find them. Flew heading 305, 315, circled around until the sun went down haha. No luck. I also looked on the map but it didn't show any boats (maybe that's how it's supposed to be). I was at 1200ft as directed. What did I do wrong? Or do I just have to look a bit more to the West next time (in the Youtube videos I watched ppl found the ships at more of a 300 heading). I'll give it a try next time, any help is appreciated

Hi, I've been doing some Case III recoveries. I tune to Datalink while in the holding pattern, I use autopilot for the hold, then I start my descend and final approach, autopilot still engaged (attitude hold). I am set up for ACLS. However, tower tells me 'Fly mode 2', which means I fly ILS approach not ACLS. At this point, I wonder if I'm supposed to disengage all autopilot? I tried leaving it on with autothrottle. However, I usually have to disengage the autothrottle as I cannot properly descend with it. Autothrottle disengaged, autopilot still engaged -> the landing did not go well. So I am thinking that if I'm told to fly mode 2, I should disengage all autopilot at that point. How do you guys do it? Btw, ACLS approach worked like a charm in the 14B the other day. It didn't feel quite right though as I was supposed to fly mode 2 Thanks!

Try the F18 when you get a chance! It adds to the fun

No one else misses haptic feedback? thought would give this another shot

Upgrading from Oculus to HP Reverb = Absolute Trainwreck
Dentedend10 replied to killerquagmire's topic in Virtual Reality
I did the same upgrade. Make sure your resolution is not set to higher than 1PD both in SteamVR and the game, I’d say that was the first big difference. After that I ran through the setup guide for HP reverb G2 that you can find here on the forum. I still have some stutters over the carrier but the resolution is way better than it was on the quest. -
AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?
Dentedend10 replied to maxsin72's topic in Virtual Reality
Just did the dogfight instant action in the F14 against Su27. It was a bit smoother experience and seemed like it kept it at around 45 FPS. I guess I have to set my expectations lower for those case I recoveries -
AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?
Dentedend10 replied to maxsin72's topic in Virtual Reality
So I did the jump from 5800x to the x3d. Unfortunately I can’t say there is a noticeable difference. Flying over the carrier in the F14 in the Caucasus, I still get stuttering. CPU frametimes seem a little better, and I seem to get a bit more stable FPS, but visually not much of a difference. The stuttering still breaks immersion (this is without OpenXR and I explained in another post why OpenXR is not an option for my setup) I have yet to test MSFS20, however that sim was smoother to begin with. -
AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?
Dentedend10 replied to maxsin72's topic in Virtual Reality
I am a little hesitant to upgrade from my 5800X. In game I’m experiencing stuttering in the F14 when flying close to objects such as the carrier or other planes. FPS on Caucasus is between 27-45. FPSVR shows that CPU time is higher than my GPU frametime with my 3080. when I stress test the CPU, it is unable to reach the posted 4.7 GHz overclocked. I have recently upgraded the cooling, and it is not thermally throttled. The max clock speed it reaches during prime95 test is 4.5ish GHz. This makes me think that there is some sort of limit built into the motherboard that is not allowing my CPU to reach the max clock speeds. Therefore, this might be a limiting factor in DCS. I’m concerned that even if I do the upgrade, with the limited clock speed I wouldn’t notice any improvement in FPS or the stutters. I am not sure if the increased cache would help me in this case. Any insight is much appreciated! -
Thanks for your help. So I tried to put that into command (windows+R) and into command prompt but I wasn’t able to close Steam and yet run SteamVR. I must be doing something wrong. Specifically, I tried to run the VR manifest but my computer didn’t have an app to run it. Not sure what I’m doing wrong? on another note, I think you are right about my CPU usage. Although I am over clocking a Ryzen 5800X, I might be CPU bound. What makes me think so is that no matter what I do with the graphics settings, I cannot get any higher FPS, even when I lower all the settings or even lower pixel density. thanks for the help!

Hi, I’ve been reading about the great performance improvements using OpenXR instead of SteamVR. Unfortunately, not running SteamVR is not an option in my case. The reason is I have a motion sim and motion compensation only seems to work through SteamVR. I use Simracing Studio for the motion and motion compensation, which seems to require running SteamVR. I wish there was a way to bypass SteamVR and yet have motion compensation run. I would like to experience DCS through OpenXR. I have a reverb G2 and while it looks fantastic the performance is not good. Id love to hear if anyone else has run into the same problem or if there is a workaround. thanks in advance!
