Thank you for this I don’t know how or why. But this change restored my border less full screen mode and improved my VR quality/clarity. I can’t say I have notice any significant change either way with FPS. So far a very positive tweak many thanks indeed.

How high/fast can you go in Viper - challenge
Nuggetz replied to jackmckay's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
@Nuggetz I am not sure if I saved the file but I will check. I think the key to getting such high speed was using a porpoising technique to climb high 55k+, pitch down up to 15 degrees accelerate to M2 pitch up and repeat 3+ times. I generally find there is too much drag below 36,000 feet to maintain speed. As far as weather goes I did not select anything specific. If I don’t have the track file I will try and repeat and save at the next attempt. Regards -
How high/fast can you go in Viper - challenge
Nuggetz replied to jackmckay's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
I have managed to get the F16 up to M2.05 a number of times and this week up to M2.06 (twice). Today I surprised myself and got a speed of M2.09. -
Thank you so much you are an absolute legend. I can confirm that my 8kx worked flawlessly in MP with no crashes or stutters. Once again thank you!

Thank you for your reply. I did try again and made a little progress but various issues emerged so I reverted to DCS (native OpenXR). Since then I have been able to get into Multiplayer a couple of times using the new DCS Shortcut with Command line directly. Performance is noticeably better but equally so fragile especially if I try to use F10 (map) which causes a crash/freeze). If we can get past the crashing and freezing I think ED are on a winner especially when you consider further performance enhancements are inbound with MT and DLSS. In the interim I shall focus on enjoying the performance boost in SP. Thanks again.

Thank you for your suggestion. I did try this approach and it didn’t work for me as I couldn’t get back into VR. I reverted to the DCS shortcut with command line and re imported it into Pitool. The downside is SteamVR powers up albeit with OpenXR runtime but I am still missing 10-12 FPS. It’s the only way I can play Multiplayer. Using the DCS shortcut direct only works fully in SP for me. Fingers crossed ED are able to offer a comprehensive fix in the coming week.

There have been a lot of posts across a few threads so I will try and be brief. I have a new DCS shortcut on my desktop with the added command line. If I launch the Pitool and then DCS via the DCS desktop shortcut everything in fine in SP mode with great performance 68-75 FPS at 75hz. OPENXRTK works no issues. Normal FOV and 3840 resolution Pimax 8KX. If I use the same method in MP mode DCS crashes before I can select an aircraft from the server list. Sometimes I have got into flight but if I press F10 DCS crashes and hangs. However, if I import this shortcut into the MyGames tab in the Pitool and launch from there I can get into DCS and fly SP or MP no crashes albeit with reduced performance. In SP I estimate I am down 10-12 FPS over the pure OpenXR route as SteamVR launches but does indicate that OpenXR runtime is active. I note that the SteamVR graphics appear in the 8KX at times. OpenXRTK is not available. Even if DCS is working correctly perhaps there is an issue with the Pitool. I don't know enough to work it out. I attach a DCS log in the hope someone can help. The bottom line is I can currently enter VR and fly albeit with some performance hit in MP. It would be great to benefit from the full OpenXR performance in both SP and MP. Any advice would be gratefully received. dcs.log

I had problems until last night. However using the new command line with a new DCS desktop shortcut and uninstalling Pitool and then downloading the latest Pitool fixed all my problems with the exception of crashes in MP this morning. However, importing DCS into the Games tab in Pitool using the new DCS Shortcut (with command line) and launching DCS within the Pitool appears to have fixed the crashes and I can access OpenXR TK just fine. I will have to check how the FPS compares when I next enter DCS for both MP and SP modes. HTH

One thread for all headsets is crazy. Here: PIMAX
Nuggetz replied to Eisprinzessin's topic in Virtual Reality
This morning I experienced DCS crashes using the DCS shortcut recommended with yesterday’s hot fix. Multiplayer only, SP was fine with good performance. I am still exploring performance metrics but a fix for me was: open the Pitool in the games tab clear out DCS if present. Then import the DCS Shortcut from your desktop. Start DCS from the Pitool. It will fire up SteamVR but in OpenXR Runtime mode. But it appeared to fix the crashes. HTH -
I had DCS working fine last night with Pimaxr set to OpenXR, including improved FPS. However, this morning I have had so many DCS crashes. I have reinstalled SteamVR and selected SteamVR PimaxXR. All the problems have gone away albeit with a performance penalty. I assume there is a bug in the OpenXR side with DCS so will remain vigilant for the solution.

Just tried SP and MP each time I press F10 the map displays and DCS freezes/crashes. Strange, was working last night no problems with nothing changed by me in between.

Clearly many people have experienced issues following the recent patch including my self but I appear to have resolved those issues experienced. DCS crashing, hanging, VR mouse pointer freezing and a reduction of FPS into the 20s/30s was experienced in multiplayer (rig details below). My solution: Delete Open Composite completely. Delete OPENXRTK completely. Delete SteamVR completely. Run DCS full repair. Install PimaxXR and set to Pimax. Ensure software/drivers up to date. Result: FPS now at 75 FPS (@75hz headset, Normal FOV @ 3840 resolution) most of the time, but typically fluctuating 68-75 FPS. This can be lower in more demanding areas but usually 50+. All Single Player so far. Will report back after trying Multiplayer later. if OPENXRTK is used the VR mouse pointer freezes before entering the cockpit. I would like to use OPENXRTK so I hope this can be resolved. Assuming Multiplayer performance remains high my hopes are high the when MT, DLSS and Vulkan have been added then FPS will be pegged at 75 FPS (for my system) and provide potential for upward tweaks of DCS System Controls. HTH

I have deleted OpenComposite as per the above. Pimax XR is installed and set to OPENXR. Everything appears to work normally (including the mouse in VR). However, once I select a Mission and reach the Choose Role page to select an aircraft and prior to entering the cockpit in flight, the mouse cursor freezes and I cannot proceed and have to End Task to escape. This is with OPENXR. if I use the PimaxXR and select SteamVR everything works normally, but there is a performance reduction of about 10-20 fps vs pre DCS patch yesterday. Any help would be appreciated

What is the Smallest Airfield you Have Used With the F-16?
Nuggetz replied to percivaldanvers's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Just tried a couple of landing/takeoffs at both airfields, just for the fun of it: PG Map: Sir Abu Nuayr 2229 feet long SA Map: Pampa Guanaco 2349 feet long. Landed at both with less than 1000lbs of fuel. A quick OTR and took off with full internal fuel, full centreline, full ammo, 4 x AIM-120C and 2 x 9X. No problems. Not sure how much scope there is for additional weight. -

Clean aircraft with up to 1000 lbs of fuel on approach. Takeoffs so far have been limited to full internal fuel, full centreline tank and a couple of wingtip AIM-120Cs. I have not explored the maxim takeoff stores so far but I guess a couple of added 9Xs would still be possible. -

Nuggetz replied to percivaldanvers's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
The two shortest runways I have successfully used are: PG Map: Sir Abu Nuayr SA Map: Pampa Guanaco Fuel/weapons limited for takeoff I think if you can do these two you are ok for any landable runway in DCS If there is a more tricky one I would be very interested to give it a go -
So much to look forward to, beyond excited! Thank you ED

“And you are correct, the AA from the NVCP does NOTwork in VR and DCS, that's why they see an improvement, normal if you don't apply it!” Not being an expert I tried MSAA off and AA on x2 plus override Application and found decent image results (albeit not perfect) with improved FPS indeed I had a solid 75 FPS at 75hz with my 8KX set to 3840 Normal FOV and most DCS settings at High or better in the PG Map. Therefore I really don’t understand the suggestion it doesn’t work? Therefore I for one am grateful for the suggestion from dburne. As it is an easy adjustment to do I recommend people try it and see for yourselves

I do not use fpsVR or Steam. I would recommend switching to OPEN XR and OXRTK where you can override the pixels values to suit your system VR Flight Sim Guy on YouTube has just released a video with all the links you need. Not using Steam allows me to get between 50-75 fps depending on map and altitude etc. well worth giving a try and easy to do.
-
I noticed the drop in resolution also. For me I updated my NVIDIA driver to the latest and reinstalled OXRTK at 3840, Normal FOV and 75hz with 45% sharpening and clarity appears to be restored. Hope this helps.

PC Specs below. 8KX resolution 3840, normal fov and refresh rate 75hz. As many have experienced huge fps drop. For example in my case 50/51 fps sat on the ramp in a F16 at Gudauta in MS server under 2.7 version dropped to 40 fps. (albeit under 2.7 the resolution was 4128 per eye, and fps in general varies between 50-75). Good news: like many I have been experimenting with settings various and 3rd party software to claw the fps back with varying results. This morning I uninstalled the Open XR Toolkit and VR Performance Toolkit and retested at the above server location fps went back to 47. I then adjusted visible range from ultra to high and reduced the anisotropic filter from x16 to x4 and now have 50 fps at that location. There remains a loss of performance; however, the gap has narrowed at least restoring playable performance. While it is true that I could get more fps with VR Performance Tool Kit activated I did notice the occasional game freeze in the PG map for 1-2 seconds. This freeze no longer happens now the files have been deleted. Additionally the image quality is better without VR Performance Toolkit installed. While this approach appears to work for me you may have a different experience but I offer it in the hope it helps at least some of you. Still not happy about increased cloud shimmer especially in the PG map, but one step at a time.

Early days but some noticeable improvements while testing in SP mode. MP tests tomorrow. Downsides 10-15 fps drop across multiple maps but still playable but with the occasional freeze for 1-2 seconds. Also looking down at the ejection handle in the F16 the shadow from the aircraft that should sit below the aircraft fuselage is superimposed over the cockpit instruments. Shadows already set to Low and Off so not sure where to gain back fps without reducing other settings. Summary: some nice cosmetic improvements at the expense of performance.

Sorry I must have missed these replies. Thank you for your input. I have managed to get into VR mode using Open Composite. The only missing component is the lack of FFR (fixed foveated rendering) options in the Open XR Toolkit. My current FPS is typically 50-75 (75 hz refresh rate) depending on map/altitude etc, so the lack of FFR is minimal for the most part. thanks for your input
