Well, I tried it and it made hardly a noticable difference. The crux for me was reducing textures to medium. On high textures it was asking 14.5Gb of VRAM, I only have 10. On medium textures it's around 8Gb and same scenarios that had performance problems on textures High are now smooth again. I don't really see the difference between medium and high in the cockpit.

Thanks for reporting back. Going to try this first then, never knew this was even a thing.
-
I also have crappy performance compared to all other modules. It is using a lot of VRAM. I am on a 3080 and the afghanistan instant action and also even the training missions perform poorly.

OMG hearing this theme brings back so many memories My lonely single student ages

Absolutely agreed, which is why I ended with "but we won't". I personally don't have the time to feel bad about missed release dates, it is completely out of my control so it is no use. Also plenty of stuff in the hangar that barely got any flight time yet. This time around I had to temper my anticipation twice in a row, last release date I had a holiday which would have been perfect timing and was actually the reason I decided to pre-order so it took some extra effort to get over it today again.

Basically we would need to stop preordering to provide an incentive to release something. But we won't

DCS F-4E Phantom II Release Date Announcement- May 21st 2024
Geskes replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
The first rule to enjoying DCS is to never ever jump on any hype wagons. It is a complete waste of time to be "waiting" on a new module while there are already so many you can enjoy right now. Don't anticipate on planned release dates because we know that everything is subject to change. On the remarks about the professionalism of ED.. it is actually very simple. Software development is uncertain. You can either have a flexible scope or a flexible timeline but you cannot fix both. Both are equally professional approaches. -
Was wondering why there was no newsletter yet.. Then I went to the store and saw the MB-339 there requiring 2.8 Great weekend ahead is my guess

The first thing that is obvious is that it runs much smoother. On old gpu without asw it would be unplayable, now it is smooth, almost no stutters. Also because I can run with msaa now, it has less jaggies. So I am happy already. ASW is terrible for dcs especially in dogfights and such because the opponent will get blurry.
-
I think I got it. Did the huey free flight. Last part over the city. High preset 2x msaa, 100% trees. Now it uses the gpu fully and I get around 60-75 fps flying over that city area there. But fps vary wildly, probably that is just dcs. Also tried christen eagle over caucasus. There framerates were little higher and often perfect 80. I tried to record the performance but apparently afterburner does not record fps but only card metrics??
-
So how do I disable all that jazz anyhow?
-
Forgot to disable vsync lol. So now the situation is much better. I tried some short flights on high preset with 2x msaa. The helmet switches between 40 and 80 fps a lot. It is very smooth though. But it seems very conservative on switching back to 40 so the gpu never gets under high load. So probably a 3080 over a 2080 in dcs rift s will only get you a little bit more periods in 80 fps.
-
OK that totally sucked. Oculus software is saying now my computer doesn't meet minimum requirements. I don't think it is working properly. GPU use is only 30% but it is stuck at 40 fps. Even when looking up to empty sky it stays on 40 but even on the 1080 it would reach 80 fps when doing that. So for now, total joke but I wouldn't know why.
-
I think you are right in saying that for dcs 4k currently a 3080 does not make sense when you already in the 2080 range unless you have a high refresh rate monitor. To be clear, I came from a 1080 gtx and on that card 4k dcs is unplayable. A 2080Ti was out of budget for me. I skipped the 20 series. And coming from there the 3080 is a no-brainer. It was cheaper then a 2080 super was this Monday. Going to test it with the rift now, wonder how the psu holds out when it also has to power the rift now...
-
I don't have any benchmarks but for sure it is a crazy jump. For the first time now I could fly in 4k normandy low level in the spitfire without it turning into a slide show. I have way better performance in 4k now then I had in 1440p with 1080. Or you mean for the rift? The rift will be interesting I will try it tomorrow.
-
LOL, yeah that was some upgrade ago hahaha :joystick:

I was lucky enough to get one coming from a gtx 1080. I can tell you I am having quite the night tonight haha. I don't have a high-end VR set though, only rift s. So probably for you guys that is nothing. So far I have ultra 4k'd everything in my library. Had two ctd's already though, once on alt-tab and once when activating nvidia overlay. The card is huge and heavy. It comes with a support bracket to mount in your case..
-
Just had the best WWII immersion ever while flying the spit over channel map. Thanks ED!
-
I was not able to reproduce this tonight. No problems at all. Sorry for bringing this up.

Just wondering if anyone tried to fly in VR recently and experienced problems? I use Rift S and when I go into VR with the C-101 the visuals are totally messed up. It looks like extreme ghosting / washout effect or something and it is unplayable. Is the C-101 supposed to work normally in VR?

1. Dynamic campaign system 2. AI -> would love to see more dynamic ground AI, more advanced air defence tactics, and the obvious a2a combat But probably if there would be a 3.0 that we would have to buy then ED has a good reason to make it a major version with good features and I will buy it anyways. I do not think we will ever need to pay for upgrades to dcs world itself since the product itself is free. It would mean you could not use the upgrades to the engine with the modules we already have and would also mean hell for development teams working on the modules. I used to buy everything although now there are modules I do not own. Of course things like f-18 and f-16 are still instant buy but things like i-16, mig-19, no more. I can't agree more that ED should focus on world and structured gameplay (dc). Dynamic campaigns could be a viable business model since they can be sold seperately. But things like AI and other upgrades to the engine cannot be sold seperately and would have to be funded from module sales. Unless these are features they can easily turn on or off then a subscription model could be viable. If not, they would need to strike a balance between investing revenues in new modules or dcs world. The good thing for them I think is that the better and more appealing DCS World itself becomes the more modules sales they can generate.

Can confirm. Its epic :)

It is a pure work of art. I am really amazed. First carrier take-offs were epic. The experience is the best ever. A dream come true!
