  1. Using DCS standalone without a problem. Actually you can add it to your steam library as a non steam game for convenience. Gesendet von meinem C6903 mit Tapatalk
  2. Greetings aces Even at low settings I am periodically missing frames which causes a mini stutter every 5-10 seconds or so. Especially visible during head movement. I *guess* this is because the projected framerate will jump from 90 to 45 and vice versa. Is there a way to fix it at 45 frames? (at least until performance will increase significantly) Anyone else suffer from the same problem? Kirin out

  4. Nope, it's like my eyes have to focus in RL - which is realistic I guess. If I am looking at the instrument panel 40cm away I focused near - if I am looking at a target 400m away I am focused to infinity (like the HUD, target reticle). Most prominent in the WW2 fighters and the early jets. If look through the reticle near focused it will be doubled. I guess that's realistic.
  5. Tested DCS with the Vive for some days now. Performance is ok but I get a periodic micro-judder every 5 sec or so. More visible when I turn my head. Running all low/medium does not make a difference. When running on high I get constant judders as expected. Anyone got a tip? V-Sync On does introduce a lot more juddering. Disabled Thread optimizin already in the NVidia panel. Gauges and HUD are perfectly readable in the sweet spot - which is rather small tho. It's interesting experience how focus switches from looking out in the far/HUD and looking at the instrument panel. The cockpit feels kinda smallish tho. Everything got a toy feel to it. My specs: i76700k, GTX970
  6. For two days now I've been testing the Vive with DCS. There are a couple of issues like the low resolution, SDE and performance problems. But the presence is so strong that can be easily overlooked. I feel like I have much better control over the plane. Landing is a whole lot of a different experience. You can judge distances much easier and are able to correct your flight intuitively so even botched up approaches end up in a silkysmooth touchdown. I also tried the guns only instant mission with the Mirage - oh boy - hadn't had more fun in DCS for a while. Now two things are really making life hard in VR: Menu overlay: when you call up the ESC menu it floats in front of the picture and always stays in the center. This is a problem because the Vive only offers a relatively small sweet spot for sharpness so text in the peripherie won't be readable. At the current state you cannot use the menue to assign keys etc. Mission/radio text: Same problem. Text appears at the top of the screen which makes it unreadable in the Vive. I think those things should be easily fixable. Does anyone else share the same experience? Kirin out
  7. Great setup - love MiG21 vs. Mirage!
  8. Very sad that the Mirage has been ruled out. Which means I am out. On the issue of "realistic" performance. This is a topic as old as flightsims themselves. Performance charts for any military aircraft vary wildly depending on the source. As do test enviroments and conditions. Fanbois from one or the other side will always be able to produce contradicting evidence. Thinking we will ever get truely realistic aircraft performance envelope and behaviour is an illusion. So I think we should be pramatic about it. Go with what we get. I am sure any of the 3rd party devs are doing their best to give us the best representation of the plane in question. If there is something really wrong we have to point that out of course. Interestingly enough the Mirage flight performance was not that big of an issue before the anouncement of tournament. And there is an other issue. War is never fair. There is no "balance". Every side tries to get whatever advantage they can get. This would have been a perfect opportunity for all the Flanker Boys and Eagler Drivers to show that it is the man what counts and not the machine. Oh well, maybe next time! Have fun pilots - this is what is all about!
  9. http://vrfocus.com/archives/30889/manus-vr-unveils-first-dev-kit-and-htc-vive-support/ Another manual VR input device. Nice, with that many companies working on new technolgies my hopes are high that we'll get a good solution for DCS!
  10. Hey guy, thanks for the head up. A bit more relaxed now! Can't wait to get my hands on the Mamba! Kirin
  11. Anyone from Switzerland pre-ordered the Black Mamba? I did put up a pre-order in November. Didn't hear back yet. According to the given information Switzerland should have shipped with the non-EU batch. VKB support did not respond to my query either. Getting a little worried. Kirin out
  12. Vive support for DCS is pretty much a given since DCS is listed as one of the Steam VR titles already. This was actually another reason to jump on the Vive. I really doubt the Vive impentation for the standalone and Steam version of DCS will differ. Good times ahead! I just hope we get some more info on the input support for clicky cockpits in VR! 14. It's great to see that we are at the bleeding edge of technology here. I am very optimistic about Leap - well I have to be. When the VR bomb drops in April there won't be another route to go. Poking blindly for your mouse when in VR just won't cut it. So I would be content with the most basic 'hand control'. Stiff sticks to point at switches has to suffice at the moment. It would be great to hear what ED is working on atm - what their vision of controling the virtual cockpit is. I remember the days when TrackIR was still a tool for disabled users to control the mouse - look how far we come! Kirin out
  15. Happy Pre-Order Day everyone! Can't wait to try out DCS with the Vive in a little bit more than a months time!
  16. [ame] [/ame] This looks very promising!
  17. Oooh! Why haven't I thought of that! Will try... --- Back on topic. I am really curious to hear how the newest iteration of Leap Motion does work with DCS. I remember reading in the forums that ED is looking into appropriate input devices for flying in VR. The future is NOW! Kirin out
  18. Wow - Sabre - yeah - I feel like a complete dumbass now... I was thinking aligning the 2 little white lines is ON - but there are NO two white lines - it's a black nose!!! Damn! Thx, man! So the instructor was right to shout me down every time!
  19. Late to the party here... I've been lately trying to get back into the A-10C in order to get ready for the Red Flag campaign. And the qualification campaign seems perfect for that. Now, doing the BFT missions, I ran into the problem of not being able to turn off the ILS. A little research showed that this problem seems to be known. I tried the work-around by modifying the "clickabledata.lua" (setting cycle to true for the PWR switch) but that didn't work. Any advice? Kirin out
  20. That's a good guess. A little more information by the organizers would be neat though... Kirin out

  22. With the release of 1.4 I took advantage of the current discount to get the PRO version of Tacview for both a friend and me. Looking forward to try the Online Debriefing function we weren't able to connect. Are there any caveats for that? We opened the required ports but it does not seem to want to connect. Are we missing something? Cheers Kirin
  23. My full respect, Hollywood. Seems like a ton of work. Coming from Star Citizen back to DCS I've experienced how much a powerful VA script will enchance gameplay. Now before I dive into VIACOM can you tell me how it will behave with the other DCS modules? I am mainly flying the SU-25 and Mig-21 atm - should it still work with these modules? I know those do not have the depth of, let's say, the A-10C communications, but the basic stuff like calling up ATC, etc. should be the same - no? Kirin out
  24. May I ask what your previous GPU was?
