  1. I wouldn't put too much faith in what the owner of that website claims. Also, the quote doesn't make any sense to me. English is not my first language, so I might be completely mistaken, but... using flaps to increase approach angle is not the intended use-case. You should be using speedbrakes instead... Interesting discussion regarding pitch-up moments while using flaps. I was taught that in high-wing aircraft (like a Cessna) you'll experience a pitch-up moment whereas in a low wing aircraft (like a Piper) you'd experience a pitch-down moment. Of course these are straight wing aircraft and so it might be different in an F-86. I'll investigate further although I'd be surprised if Belsimtek got this behaviour wrong. It's fundamental aerodynamics which all these flight-models are based on. Thats one of the things I like about these sims. Besides blowing stuff up it also makes me question and get back into the theory of systems and aerodynamics. It's an educational tool as well! :D
  2. One of the best endorsements for DCS and the Rift that I've come across. Enthusiastic is an understatement. Great vid.
  3. Could you elaborate? What does "...wing surface in operational condition" mean?
  4. Enjoyed the discussion sofar. Pro's and cons to each side without either side resorting to yelling and name-calling. I've been wondering about the same issues for some time and I'd love to join the debate. I've flown the P-51 with keyboard/mouse and a CPU from way-back-when so it wouldn't be fair to make any comments . I always thought something was wonky about the FM in the low-speed regime though. MFG pedals are waiting to be hooked up. Money for Rift CV1 set aside. Wishlist for new PC prepared. No matter what... i'll have a brand new PC by the end of January! :-)
  5. I couldn't have said it any better in one sentence. It's not just about numbers (although they have to be correct). Simulation is truly an art-form and all the developers have my respect when they get it right... 'numbers' and 'feel' combined.
  6. EDGE confirmed!!! :-)
  7. Interesting read and it appears that my source was not correct... Thanks for the link!
  8. My information is from a book called "Aerodynamic Principles of Flight Vehicles" (page 176) where the F-86 is specifically mentioned. Super Sabre might also have been affected by it... I'm not familiar with its wing-design. It doesn't really matter because it happens more or less on all swept wing aircraft. They 'fixed' this problem to some extent in subsequent wing-designs by adding vortex gens, fences etc. so that the airflow would remain attached for longer. Anyway, still interested to hear from people who've done research into this. If the sim- F-86 exhibits the same behavior, I'd be very impressed...
  9. Since I'm unable to test this for myself... Can somebody check to see if the F-86 exhibits a pitch-up moment while it is slowing down to stall-speed? There used to be a thing called "Sabre Dance" (in relation to the F-86) whereby seperation of airflow on the aft-portion of the wing would result in a pitch-up moment. This had to be counteracted by the pilot and did, on several occasions, result in Pilot Induced Oscillation (the dance). Presumably this would also happen during high-speed flight? Just wondering. I can't wait to upgrade my system which won't happen until EDGE is released...
  10. I'm going to hold off and wait for the Broadwell desktop-part. Should be here at the end of the year.... probably means Q1 2015. Even if EDGE gets released in '2 weeks' time, I'll resist. THEN, Q1 2015 with Broadwell and hopefully Rift CV1 released I'll be king of the virtual skies and you will all bow to me! Muuhahahahaaaaaa! (...and I make due with a core2duo 2.5Ghz, 6GB and crappy graphics card at themoment. Heck, my Surface Pro Tablet is 5 times more powerful than my desktop...)
  11. As I'm about to pull the trigger on a set myself, I'd love to know which store you're referring to. I've held off purchasing one way back when they were first released just to avoid the 'early adopter' -problems. I don't want to end up owning a 'serviced' Warthog that's been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years... I'd prefer to get a late production sample if at all possible...
  12. Ericoh, You come across as a troll. There are no hifi combat flight simulations that run faster than 60fps. There is a good reason why DCS is not running at a consistent 60fps. I'm sure you know why. You're not dumb, are you?
  13. Yeah..! I'd love to hear something heavy by Beyonce or Mr. Dre... with lots of 'beatbox' please! /S
  14. Great vid. Love 'The Lesson'... :-)
  15. Appreciate the user experiences. It is more or less what I expected to hear ('see?'). Thanks for taking the time and letting us (the DK2-less) know what it's like. The times I spent hovering my mouse-pointer over the 'purchase' button.... I'm happy to wait until they release the Consumer Version... and I expect even that one doesn't completely satisfy my needs except for just flying about and doing touch and go's. Hopefully Intel/AMD will get off the mobile-bandwagon for a little bit and re-new their efforts in enhancing desktop performance. Exciting times!
  16. Proof or it didn't happen! :-) Liked the vid.
  17. That's news to me. I thought Oculus only suspended orders bound for China...?? I'm hoping you'll get yours soon...
  18. There are many things I'd like... Including multithreaded game-engines. Alas, it doesn't always play out that way. The approach that ED takes is a smart one, I think. Offloading cycles to the GPU is an excellent first step. Baby-steps, Boberro... Baby-steps :-)
  19. This. Nothing to add to that....
  20. Again... Backing a Kickstarter project is -not- an investment. It's putting up funds in the -hope- that project takes off. It's a bit like Facebooks acquisition of Oculus and people wanting their money back because that was not what was promised (a VR project devoid of all big-business politics).
  21. So they 'benefitted' from a situation they themselves did not create. That doesn't make them responsible for what RRG promised. Why is this concept so difficult to understand?
  22. Greed? Greed???!!! The margins are razor-thin I expect. This is a niche-industry and every dollar spent has to be accounted for. That is doing business responsibly and vital if you want this company to survive or, heaven forbid, prosper! I'm sorry but ED doesn't owe us anything. I'm not an ED apologist but the whining that's been going on for quite a few pages now is just ridiculous and undeserved. I'm a KS backer too... I pledged enough to scoop up all of the planes that were on offer... Didn't work out... Oh well... That is the risk of crowd funding (yes, I also own the P51 module already). Get over it. ED has to do what is best for them and it appears they're doing just that. Well done, ED.
  23. This field is still in its infancy. One thing is clear is that you need lots of horsepower in order to recreate the same visual fidelity as your monitor. M. Abrash himself said 2016 would be the year VR and computer hardware are at a point where the _minimum_ requirements are met... and I think even that is optimistic. We'll get there, I'm sure, but it needs a couple of iterations before it truly becomes a 'must have-' item for the serious sim enthusiast. Don't count CastAR out of the fight....
  24. One argument against smart scaling is that it'll be difficult to guess your closure rate... resulting in an overshoot during dogfighting. No thanks unless they offer it as an option.

    Release??

Give it a rest, already. The -21 will be on your hard-drive soon. Sit back, relax... and have a coffee (real coffee, not Starbucks!). Coffee and BACON anyone?????? ;-)
