  1. Hold off on spending $350. Even if it does take a year to buy the , much improved, Consumer Version... it'll be worth the wait. Imagine doing the VR-thingy for the very first time and be doubly wow-ed compared to the early adopters with their pixilated screendoors and headache inducing ski-goggles. You'll thank me for it! Truth be told... after reading that article I had the CC in my hand and was surfing to the Oculus order page... I resisted! Yay me! :-D
  2. It's actually very simple... Certification requirements assume a structural limit of 10ft/s descent rate at maximum landing weight (i.e. excl. navy airplanes). If you don't slow the descent rate on an F-15 on a normal 3deg. glideslope you will break it. Either you pull back on the stick or add power, the choice is yours.... 'choose wisely' :-)
  3. I've been trying to find the part number and/or OEM for this piece of kit. Apparently they're not sold seperately as a replacement part. You'd have to purchase a complete (Lenovo) keyboard and remove the trackpoint hardware from it. That's the easy part... How are you going to make it work on the throttle? I'm assuming it needs drivers... ? Tackpoint does seem like an ideal solution but probably nigh impossible to implement on the throttle. I'm not an engineer. Maybe someone with the required knowledge is willing to share some thoughts on this...?
  4. Oh now you've done it! This project has to succeed. I played around with the idea of creating one for DCS but went with another type instead. I would back this project... no questions asked! Git 'r done!
  5. Snooker!?... DUDE? Bowling's where it's at! ;-) Now, where did I put my 'White Russian'?
  6. Armageddon :-D
  7. That's interesting. Might possibly be due to converting metric (m/s) to imperial (knots) or vice-versa. Good catch if that is indeed the problem...
  8. The Facebook-guy has already been quoted, in his sales-pitch, that they could sell the Rift at cost. That would imply that they're getting their money in other ways. I think that goes without saying but for you guys that are still on the fence... I don't want to open up a FB account in order to use this thing nor do I want to be tracked with regards to what I'm looking at. VR is not just for gaming... There's a host of applications it can be used for. I just prefer it to be stand-alone as opposed to buying into an 'Eco system'. It's Apple all over again... ;-) Ultimately this deal might be a good thing but I'm not holding my breath. Then there's Sony (albeit PS4 exclusive for now) and possibly Microsoft that will market their VR thingy in the, hopefully, not too distant future. I'm interested to hear what they can bring to the table.
  9. Just as you roll in and line up for a 'Tunguska guns-kill' a pop-up appears and everything grinds to a halt; "Friend Request: Kiogy123@oal.com wants to be your friend. Allow? [yes] [no]. " I swear... that's the day I stop playing games...
  10. Nothing to do on my layover so what da heck… The media is to blame for much of the confusion. Talking heads on tv, claiming to be experts, only add to this. Truth is; very little is known at this point. Many valid reasons why information is kept from the public. To guess at a possible reason why this thing happened is only human but is based on ‘nothing’. I have my own theory but there are many holes in it. Funny thing is… any theory I’ve seen (including aliens) has many holes in it… we simply don’t know and anyone claiming otherwise is a fool. Having said that… Someone mentioned terrorists adding tanks to increase the range… B777 without any pax. and a full tank of gas can practically circle the earth and back. No need for that… Regarding decompression… As soon as cabin altitude exceeds a certain value, masks will drop. Pilots are supposed to don their masks anytime cabin exceeds 10000’. There is no switch to prevent the masks from dropping… oxygen supply is limited though… obviously. Landing field requirements The 777 can stop in a significantly shorter distance than, say B737 under the exact same conditions. The surface needs to be compact in order to not have it get stuck. Any airport with a 2000m runway should suffice and you wouldn’t even have to try hard to stop it. If you’re feeling adventurous you could, theoretically, land it on a dirt strip. Taking off again is a different matter altogether which kinda defeats the purpose.
  11. G-suits and light-weight bone domes are for wimps!
  12. copied from another thread.... There are many programs available that can evaluate a 3D wing model and derive coefficients and crit. M numbers etc. The link below can also eval. a complete 3D aircraft model and compile the data in a nice spreadsheet. One can then fine-tune the data to match the performance graphs in the flight manual. It's a wee bit expensive but I've had my mouse cursor hovering over the 'purchase' button more than once... http://www.hanleyinnovations.com/ Incl. supersonic flight regime.

  14. Keep in mind that what you'll see is actually "960*520"!
  15. "Is this your homework Larry!" Quite possibly the 'bestest' movie ever!
  16. Assuming your math is correct... and it works the way you're r describing... there's one more issue that many seem to be forgetting. Performance. You need a PC powerful enough to drive -2- displays at that resolution. We're not there yet. It will be a few years before we get VR resolution on par with today's monitors. Exciting times ahead... patience is a virtue. Maybe FA-18C will be here in time to pair it with Oculus Rift III. ;-D SNIPED! :-)
  17. Besides... people still fail to realize that 720 rez is NOT per eye and so they're 'duped' into thinking 720p is plenty... It is not. Even 1080p is not going to do it... and when you go above that, system performance is starting to play a role too. VR is upon us, I'm sure... but it may not come from Oculus...
  18. I would use a sphere shape instead of a cube to make it roll across the floor... :D
  19. Well, it doesn't... just don't hold on for too long :D
  20. It is not going to be ready for 'our' simulator anytime soon. The resolution is way too low... even the HD version doesn't offer enough pixels. It'll be nice to just fly around in the 'World' but actually finding and targeting the bad guys... ain't gonna happen IMHO. Then there's latency to 'worry' about. A lot of people are complaining about nausea although it seems Oculus has made great progress in countering that effect. From all the info I can find on the web it seems they have a long way to go before it becomes a viable add-on for DCS. And I need to be able to see my keyboard... looking out through a slit on the bottom isn't doing it for me... Now, CastAR... it has 'serious' drawbacks as well but it does seem better suited to my needs.
  21. For a comparison and a closer look check out the video below.
  22. AlphaOneSix, Completely agree and that was the only reason I hesitated pushing the 'purchase' button. These pedals are highly customizable though. As Lausbub78 mentioned, it's easy produce a couple of footplates in your kitchen and have them fitted in no-time. I believe Milan is also planning on releasing different pedal designs for the aftermarket but ETA is unknown at this time. The quality is great, a simple and sturdy design that should last many years. I would encourage anyone thinking of buying a (new) set to watch the YouTube videos that were posted a while ago...
  23. Wow... really enjoyed that show. It'd be interesting to hear what tricks people have up their sleeves...
  24. My MFG Crosswind pedals shipped yesterday. I can't comment on the item itself, obviously, but the guy who builds these pedals offers great support. I've received several updates and he's always quick in responding to email. Highly recommended!
  25. What if I don't like muffins? Can we swap cookie recipies too?
