A neues Gwand für die Dora! - Hi Res Textures for the Dora
Doughguy replied to Doughguy's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Its still going Added washing stains, reduced the walkway dust, fixed the supercharger intake weld seam (horrors... horrors), fixed missing fabric dents between controlsurface spars, redone tailsection/stabilizer layout. Added dryness to rim of mudd. Tried around with spray paint application and way to imitate that coarse effect. Eventually might try a new brush, but atm, noise does it. Still some normal map things to fix ive missed... -
Could the culprit be identified or do you need more tracks @NineLine?

it would be for naught as the whole UVW layout would be different, if it gets a total rehaul from scratch and not some fixes to the current one. -
Second what kablamoman is saying. The biggest threat is the Pony. And if you happen to engage with a pro pilot.. situation looks bleak. The dora can turn with the mustang yes and against AI its just an excercise in patience... the lack of MW50 just prolongs it while the mustang just spirals upward. Not the most ideal thing to do tho. Ideally, you want to maintain a combat speed of over 400kph. The dora can turn with a spit or mustang if its fast enough. Extend startflaps and bobs your uncle. But its a tightrope. Too fast/too tight pull and flaps or guns break. Im flying against my teammates quite often and just today i was fighting one in a K4. K4 basically bein a spit of roidrage. The first few neutral merges we both climbed up in a left turn. The k4 quickly gaining advantage and only flying tactically hiding in clouds etc saved my 6 numerous times. Now, i tried something different. Him doin the left side pull up after the merge, i immediately dropped flaps and pulled hard after him, denying him turning room. It resulted in an yoyo circle fight in which i climbed always a bit higher than him on the upwards slope. I was pretty much flying near stall edge but could maintain to stay on his six. Also keeping the speed up on dives enabled me to get closer and turn tighter than him. The k4 has a very bad high speed maneuvering and control surfaces lock in a dive rather fast. so the first time i forced him from a yoyo fight into a dive from which he did not recover and crashed into the ground. The 2nd time the same thing. Yoyo fight but then it shifted into a vertical circle (looping) fight. again, with speed and bit of flaps i managed to gain on him and shred him with 20mm. Neither him and i are pro pilots, but the K4 is more of the turnfighter. The Dora simply has to applied differently and flown pretty much conservately and fast. As it was said, look for vicitms and not for fair duels. If one flies in a pack of Doras they will usually pretty much tear the enemy flight apart. The Dora is a great drag an bagger, as it can extend quickly and many folks will get target fixation and not see the wingman swoop in from the low. I agree tho, that without the MW50, its gonna be a lot harder and the fight has to be fought with even more discipline.

Its soso. In fly her regularly but the bug occurs pretty rarely but i also had it like 2 3 times in a row which made me think its related to warmin up procedures. But it even occured when doing it strictly by the book. And even if mw50 isnt involved at all. Temps indicate solid 120 throughout the fligh or less depending on ata/rpm then you push the throttle past 2100 rpm to 3000 or higher quick uproar engine dead at an instant and oil temps are suddenly above 130. Only quickly cutting the throttle, opening rads and pulling the notzug handle prolong the flight... but you're rather strolling home and delay the evident... I think in my first track this can be observers iirc. 2nd sorties. Start, cruise etc temps all good. Flyin 2500 or so rpm. See a contact throttle up to 3000 bang. Instant engine death. The only constant i see usually is that the radiator flaps are closed each time the engine seizes and oil is 130 plus. Coolant is ok iiirc. And i usually never touch the flaps. Not even for t/o. Not even the real pilots did as per accounts. If the system malfunctions due to damage, ok. Bad luck. But out of the blue just cruising? Unless of course random failures were on or were triggered but afaik these arent on on 4ya... and it happens toooo often if hardcoded...

Happy new year, hope everyones swell! Work is crawling. Found new unexpected reference pics that neeeed to be evaluated. My inner Sheldon Cooper is bouncin, but time´s limited.. By the looks of it, the undersides of the horizontal stabs were display variations just as the wing-undersides.... (YAY! Not) It appears that at some point FW build Doras also switched to all metal undersides after the 210xxx series . So all 211xxx series had partially metal undersides overall. 212xxx and 213xxx bein some odd shots... Now, the Interesting one is White 100, a Fieseler 600xxx series build. It´s evident its a Fieseler series, due to the very distinctive underwing painting around the thick balkenkreuz. The horizontal stabs appear to be very dark, even compared to the control surfaces which are RLM 76 shaded, just like the fuselage. It appears, the color of choise for this section is a either a green or brown RLM 81. Now, i dont have any 500xxx or 400xxx series pics at hand, but i could imagine them being also produced in a similar fashion. More over, the tail sections were created by subcontractors, which leads to believe that there is some sort of "uniformity" sub-parts wise at least, as all components usually came pre painted and were then just assembled, which led to some pretty well known frankendoras. One more for the fixlist... -

Also something i missed. Mud obviously dries.. And some splatter streaks were missing on the fuselage... -

The Wings are from FW-190D9_GrSt_JG51 of Pt.1 You might get away with others, but them bottom part of the fuselage intersects with the wing textures and will cause discoloration if you choose different colored wings. Base color must be grey RLM75 -

Incidentally, started lookin into fixing things i either found were wrong or i didnt like as much, parallel to starting the cockpit rework.. The latter is going to take some time as i need to see what is where etc... time consuming. Also ref has to gathered. So atm its just boring work. I gave the air scoop another go with the welding seam... its horrid UVW´s are skewed and overlapping... Not too sure if i wanna keep it.. Also fixed the rivets on the normal. Due the generation process all rivets turned out round. I noticed this prior, but simply forgot to fix this in the process... So i capped them. Theyre not that pronounced anymore. Nice flat rivets, like on the real deal. Im gonna try to fix more things and see that i can do a revised version of the dora´s so far, as theres inaccuracies now that i got more ref... -

Pt. 3 submitted! Hold on to your butts! -
yes the dora can run on 3250 rpms w/o mw50 for 30.mins. Mw50 only engages with 3250 anyway. I just push the throttle full forward. Mw50 is only switched on when needed. But that can be handled diffetently. Some servers have mw50 disabled.
-
Your premise is wrong. Your engine can blow up after few seconds using mw50 because temps matter. But for the sake of simplicity given we have enough speed and hence cooling the dora can run on mw50 up to 3 mins +/- depending on your cooling. After that she needs a bit of a cool down. She can run on 3000 rpm indefinately and on 3250 for 30 mins. But i usually alternate rpms in a fight alot just to pamper the engine. It still might have a bug or so which is currently being looked into but it seldomly appeared with me. As long as the oil needle is in the bracket center and coolant on the marked pos of about 110 celsius she'll be good. Id have time on saturday. Im central european time. Gotta be on the latest beta.

Gruppenstab of JG4 done. Ill skip the EKG(J) livery for now, as theres some discrepancies in the color of markings. Ill release that one at a later point, so you can enjoy the new pack faster. Packing and some screenshots to be done! -
Sowwy yes airspeed. But liquid cooled.

If youre caught low with low energy it doesnt matter which plane youre in anyway. Youre dead in the water. Its something that youll have to deal with. It can happen in any plane. Yes it takes time to extend. But the dora can extend and at 4 to 6 km is the fastest unjuiced bird. Other birds have rather poor extending capabilites... or can only dive.... the p47 cant extend in level flight... in a dive... yes... and you cant keep up with it in a dive or a mustang....so dives as defensive manouvers are a bad idea... the dora however can extend in a climb... 5 m/s ar full power are good enough. 10m/s if youre fancy. Just dont manouver alot just keep the dora away drom the nose of the oppo. Theres really no need to touch the radiators flaps... they act as huge airbrakes. Combat speed in the dora should be about 400 500. Slower and youll have problems extending from the spit and even the mustang has better stalling behaviour. Faster and the mustang also has better manouverability. Yes you need a high airspeed as the dora uses a air cooled engine... just like the mustang.... and just as the mustang if you climb full power with slow speed youll fry the engine... the dora isnt as prone to overheatin as the mustang but can happen. However youd really fight in the vertical with the dora. Tactics with the anton revolved around dives and climbs. Youd drop down shoot and then pull up and readjust. If missed or target evades you pull up. Basically you can apply the same tactic with the dora. High yoyos are your friend. Chandelles can also be executed in the dora. If you fly against ai mainly please keep in mind that ai basically flies perfectly and keeps its energy 99%.... If you want to we can have a spin together in the dora.

As per title, it appears to me that the flak searchlights only render at close distance.. With a pre 2,9 version mission i could see them for miles... Now its around 2km and i have to zoom it.. The 2nd and 3rd pic show the cockpit and view on c47 with the same zoom. The 4th and 5th, cockpit and view towards the c47 with slightly more zoom. The c47s are about 2km away... My scenery details factor is 1, preload radius 61500, lod switch factor 1. These vaules dont seem to influence the switching distance. My visibility range is set to extreme.

I fly the dora a lot and got pretty good with it. Yes its no turn fighter. If you wanna do this, this bird is not yours. She´s an ambush berzerker. I need to have the alt advantage especially over the Mustang. I also had a few engine bleeps however, these might have been connected to wrong engine warmup procedure. you can and should take off with about 80/90 deg on oil and coolant. no less. Also check, if your mw50 is switched on especially on servers that have the mw50 off and the aux tank filled with fuel.. itll wreck your engine. Personally i dont touch the rads. I climb with 3000 rpm and 10 m/s with 4000. You can also climb with 3250rpm at 15-20m/s with somewhere around 350 ish, i dont do this right after the start tho. And on the contrary, the dora can climb. Especially with mw50. She´ll even outclimb the K4 easily. She is no high alt bird. 6000 is about her performance ceiling imho. Shes a low to med alt fighter. You have to fly her very conservatively and most of all patiently and with discipline. Extend if you do not have the advantage. Thats basically a general rule, but its even more important in the dora and even more in the anton. Then reposition and reengange from alt and speed advantage. The dora can turn with the spit with start flaps for about 1 full turn. Often thats enough to place few crippling shots. You should fly alot of yoyos with her, and slashing attacks. Pilot skills bein all equal, the most trouble youll face with the dora is against the mustang. they pretty much on even terms. The spit is just a nuissance really as its pretty much slower. Yes it can turn, but if you stay high and yoyo up and down the spit cant do much. Mossie is cannon fodder. P47 can be tricky but generally is a pretty slow target, up high is where the p47 shines.
