Pt. 3 submitted! Hold on to your butts! -
yes the dora can run on 3250 rpms w/o mw50 for 30.mins. Mw50 only engages with 3250 anyway. I just push the throttle full forward. Mw50 is only switched on when needed. But that can be handled diffetently. Some servers have mw50 disabled.
-
Your premise is wrong. Your engine can blow up after few seconds using mw50 because temps matter. But for the sake of simplicity given we have enough speed and hence cooling the dora can run on mw50 up to 3 mins +/- depending on your cooling. After that she needs a bit of a cool down. She can run on 3000 rpm indefinately and on 3250 for 30 mins. But i usually alternate rpms in a fight alot just to pamper the engine. It still might have a bug or so which is currently being looked into but it seldomly appeared with me. As long as the oil needle is in the bracket center and coolant on the marked pos of about 110 celsius she'll be good. Id have time on saturday. Im central european time. Gotta be on the latest beta.

Gruppenstab of JG4 done. Ill skip the EKG(J) livery for now, as theres some discrepancies in the color of markings. Ill release that one at a later point, so you can enjoy the new pack faster. Packing and some screenshots to be done! -
Sowwy yes airspeed. But liquid cooled.

If youre caught low with low energy it doesnt matter which plane youre in anyway. Youre dead in the water. Its something that youll have to deal with. It can happen in any plane. Yes it takes time to extend. But the dora can extend and at 4 to 6 km is the fastest unjuiced bird. Other birds have rather poor extending capabilites... or can only dive.... the p47 cant extend in level flight... in a dive... yes... and you cant keep up with it in a dive or a mustang....so dives as defensive manouvers are a bad idea... the dora however can extend in a climb... 5 m/s ar full power are good enough. 10m/s if youre fancy. Just dont manouver alot just keep the dora away drom the nose of the oppo. Theres really no need to touch the radiators flaps... they act as huge airbrakes. Combat speed in the dora should be about 400 500. Slower and youll have problems extending from the spit and even the mustang has better stalling behaviour. Faster and the mustang also has better manouverability. Yes you need a high airspeed as the dora uses a air cooled engine... just like the mustang.... and just as the mustang if you climb full power with slow speed youll fry the engine... the dora isnt as prone to overheatin as the mustang but can happen. However youd really fight in the vertical with the dora. Tactics with the anton revolved around dives and climbs. Youd drop down shoot and then pull up and readjust. If missed or target evades you pull up. Basically you can apply the same tactic with the dora. High yoyos are your friend. Chandelles can also be executed in the dora. If you fly against ai mainly please keep in mind that ai basically flies perfectly and keeps its energy 99%.... If you want to we can have a spin together in the dora.

As per title, it appears to me that the flak searchlights only render at close distance.. With a pre 2,9 version mission i could see them for miles... Now its around 2km and i have to zoom it.. The 2nd and 3rd pic show the cockpit and view on c47 with the same zoom. The 4th and 5th, cockpit and view towards the c47 with slightly more zoom. The c47s are about 2km away... My scenery details factor is 1, preload radius 61500, lod switch factor 1. These vaules dont seem to influence the switching distance. My visibility range is set to extreme.

I fly the dora a lot and got pretty good with it. Yes its no turn fighter. If you wanna do this, this bird is not yours. She´s an ambush berzerker. I need to have the alt advantage especially over the Mustang. I also had a few engine bleeps however, these might have been connected to wrong engine warmup procedure. you can and should take off with about 80/90 deg on oil and coolant. no less. Also check, if your mw50 is switched on especially on servers that have the mw50 off and the aux tank filled with fuel.. itll wreck your engine. Personally i dont touch the rads. I climb with 3000 rpm and 10 m/s with 4000. You can also climb with 3250rpm at 15-20m/s with somewhere around 350 ish, i dont do this right after the start tho. And on the contrary, the dora can climb. Especially with mw50. She´ll even outclimb the K4 easily. She is no high alt bird. 6000 is about her performance ceiling imho. Shes a low to med alt fighter. You have to fly her very conservatively and most of all patiently and with discipline. Extend if you do not have the advantage. Thats basically a general rule, but its even more important in the dora and even more in the anton. Then reposition and reengange from alt and speed advantage. The dora can turn with the spit with start flaps for about 1 full turn. Often thats enough to place few crippling shots. You should fly alot of yoyos with her, and slashing attacks. Pilot skills bein all equal, the most trouble youll face with the dora is against the mustang. they pretty much on even terms. The spit is just a nuissance really as its pretty much slower. Yes it can turn, but if you stay high and yoyo up and down the spit cant do much. Mossie is cannon fodder. P47 can be tricky but generally is a pretty slow target, up high is where the p47 shines.

Thanks JV44´s Dora WIP Love the colors on this. Itll also serve als the last base pattern iterration for the JG4 Dora´s as theyll also be based on Fieseler 600xxx series. The red overpaint was applied unevenly so the base color shines through here and there, and was most likely applied with a paint gun. The white stripes were all unevenly spaced not were of different width. Not sure how these were applied but it was the most logical to me that therese were painted with a brush. -

Next skins ahead! The FW190 D9 was also used with Schlachtengeschwader, which primarily used 190 F´s or G´s, albeit the D9s were used in little numbers and apparently only 4 photos of II./SG10 D9s exist. I could only uncover one.. Itll be a bit of speculative work, but interesting nevertheless. Funfact, the attached pic of the <- + - Dora is actually Rudel´s bird. Always thought he flew the 87... Also, bit of a blunder, but seems like the undersurfaces of the elevator were also left in bare metal just like the wings... *pain* Im gonna change this for the future versions, but not really wanna fix this now... I have to wrap my head around on how to implement this and make a dirty fix later... -

So, contrary to given info, ive decided to leave above bird open and declared it either JG300 or JG6 for sheer convenience and file size purposes. That way, JG6 would have a Stabs-Maschine and a regular Squadron. -
investigating AI Wingmen never drop the external fuel tank

if you place vanilla ww2 planes in the editor the jettison fuel tanks restriction is usually on per default. -
missing info Bullet proof German pilots...

No its just one. DCS doesnt place bullet holes on exact impact spots. What is wrong this that the "glass" wouldnt shatter like the average glass but break clean. its perspex. -

FW 190 D9 Focke-Wulf Made Werksnummer 211 164. Pretty much of an Oddball, nowhere to be placed correctly. As a 2nd batch of the Focke-Wulf run, this thing is quite a mystery and a whole internetgroup around JG.300 contributed to identify this plane. In DCS we have this plane als Black 4 of Stab II./JG6, just as its depicted in Crandall and JaPo books, or scalemodel resources like Eduard. Telling from war time fotos, it is definately a FW build. Apart from the Werksnummer, it also has the correct wings of a FW bird of said series. Bottom Crosses are open, and the center portion of the fuselage and wings are painted and cover upto half of the flaps. This is commonly refered to W3 FW paint scheme by JaPo, and can clearly be seen in some photographs. Something JaPo and Crandall didnt seem to see. Also, coloring is very interesting on this Lawnmower of death. Apart from the wings, which in regulation with the 211xxx series would be painted in a RLM75 base color, the rest is pretty much speculative. One interesting aspect is centered around the tail. Our DCS version has the extension plug and parts of the tailsection mottled in a brown RLM81 variant. This goes along with JaPo, not so Crandall, that has the whole upper portion in greenish colors. Now, if you observe war time pictures, you get different colorations of the very same bird and section. This could be due to lightconditions, paint deterioration and camerafilm used. However, some pictures clearly indicate, that the plug is colored in a different, lighter color, than the rear rest of the tail section, unlike what JaPo depicts. Moreover, the plug section isnt mottled in a "standard" fashion, as only this very plug would be mottled, after an existing A8 would have been upgraded to a D9. However... what is very interesting is tho, that theres a few pictures, that indicate, that this specimen had a very bright but unusually placed tailband in a single color. The Tailbands on the D9 usually had the whole extension plug painted plus the paint extending forward upto the center of the lifting holes. In this particular Dora, its the total opposite! The tailband extends to the rear, and, as said above, is mottled with another color. By historical accounts, it is confirmed that JG.11, wearing a yellow tailband, did receive a few doras. These never saw action and soon after delivery, JG.11 was disbanded and some of the doras were forwarded to JG.301. However, by accounts and suggestions also JG.300 received some of them. Even Günther Rall is said to have flown it in the last days. This plane was accounted for JG.6 initially however, as JG.6 was based in that area, where this bird was found, however, in the hasty last days of the WW2 units scattered to save planes. Also, initially Doras had a tailband painted indicating the JG, however, many planes, and even JG´s did not paint them, as war progressed. JG300 hat blue white blue tailbands, yet no photos of Doras sporting them exist. Just like JG6 or some of JG54 or others. Its a very controversial topic, and above things arent set and are subject to change. -

Back at it again after a longer period of only flying. Next pack gonna include jg4, 6, 300, jv44 and EKG(J). Jg 4 and 6 will include a generic staffel plane and a stabs bird like the other packs. 300 jv44 and ekg(j) will be one offs. Once these are done, ill be lookin into redoing the cockpit. -
Had another siezure just now. will post track later.

Cheers for the advice. I try to cruise way below 3000 rpm as shes quite a guzzler. Same during fights. After the last few incidents i was watching the temps more frequently and they all were inside the indicated bracket so i gathered its the operating norm. Hence i also do not operate the cowlflaps. She cools pretty good ln her own. Ill try to play around more with the cowlflaps but its tricky to get them back into the "neutral" pos. Closing them nearly completally or anything below the automated pos gets the engine cooked pretty fast tho, at least no time i could justify few kph more to trade for like 30 seconds. But speaking of rpms and manuals. As 3250 is climbing power it should be save to use that rpm for start and climb up to 6km alt w/o any probs providing shes been warmed up correctly and one isnt flying a high climbrate /low speed respectively, correct? Or would you recommend this only during combat /after t/o only? The manual says 3250 for t/o but then retard throtzle to 3000 once save speed/alt has been reached, whereas engine settings say 3250 is climbing power. Bit confusing.

Thanks alot. Was the startup procedure regarding temps ok? That was my suspicion as a primary culprit.
