  1. oh wow I think I replayed dangerous waters a couple years back again. Will check out that mod. It was an awsome game for its time!
  2. I would suggest you download DCS world for free and try out both free planes and tweak the graphics. maybe borrow some ram from someone if the game lags to see if that helps. My former CPU was a E8400 and I could easily overclock it from 3ghz to 4ghz on aircooling alone. I did have a decent aftermarket cooler though. A huge thermaltake one. I paid 30 bucks for the cooler years years back so I guess you can buy something cheap for it nowadays.
  3. weird. and you see the throttle move in the axis tune panel? Also invert it ofcourse for realisms sake. Only thing I could think of is that you were playing Game mode while bound in Sim or vice versa. maybe just in case bind the throttle both in game profile and in sim profile?
  4. have you maybe setup controls in game mode instead of sim mode? these are 2 complete distinct profiles. in any case: Check in the ka-50 SIM (not arcade) profile under axis asign, that your throttle is bound to collective. Check this by clicking it again and pressing axis tune. Then in that window move your throttle to see if it moves. If it doesnt then your throttle might be malfunctioning. edit: there is no collective hold. well there is a collective brake but thats linked with the AP alt-hold i think. I never use the collective brake. i believe in the real KA-50 you hold the collective brake down and then you can move the collective. When released the collective stays fixed in place and sends the altitude data to the AP ALT-HOLD. The AFCS will then try to maintain that altitude baro/radar by pitching the blades slightly. It doesnt have much authorirty so you need to be at a steady altitude to begin with. Whenever auto-hover is selected the ALT-HOLD will be automatically engaged so i dont see a need to use the collective brake but I might be missing some important information.
  5. The g940 is awesome with Black shark. and perhaps other choppers but I don't own them. When you trim the stick it stays in the trimmed position. No return to centre needed. Its the most realistic joystick for flying choppers with this trim mechanism. I myself had only problems with the rudder and throttle. The rudder wasn't accurate enough for my taste so I removed the centering spring only to find out it has a hardware dead zone. I have got the MFG Crosswind now to replace that. The throttle had some issues with spiking. I bought a cable extender for 2 Euros from a Spanish dude who had a chinese company make these extenders but he could only buy in bulk so he is still selling of surplus. shipping cost was 8 euros though :) This worked for some time because the original cable was pulling on the circuitry. Now though Some buttons don't work when main throttle (z i think) is fully forward (afterburner) so its still pulling on circuitry i think. To solve this I have stuck a piece of plastic on the throttle so it cann't flex 100 percent forward. it now reaches about 95 percent. i then recalibrated and now every button works even if the throttle is fully forward. The joystick itself is working flawlessly. and after all these years it really has been worth it. I bought one of the first here in holland. The throttle and rudder are replaceable. The joystick isnt. I can't ever go to a joystick without forcefeedback... I might buy the warthog throttle quadrant someday... then I have the best of both worlds :) MFG Crosswind, G940 FFB Joystick and awesome Warthog Throttle quadrant :) edit: one thing though is that you can't calibrate the joystick. So i don't know if the joystick always had this but there is a hardware dead zone at the extreme axis. on the x axis to the right there is cm play at the end of movement where no rawdata is registered. to the left its less than a halve cm. on the y axis there is also a small dead zone at the end of the axis in both directions. If you trim beyond this point then you notice that the force feedback aint working in that "band". I don't know if its because wear and tear or that this was always the case. My muscle memory has adapted though and I intuitively know the boundaries of my device.
  6. You can buy the MFG Crosswind from the Croatian manufacturer. I paid something like 40 euro's in shipping but its well worth it. I don't think many people with either the Slaw or MFG crosswind are going to sell theirs any time soon. Because its build to last and EPIC! Milan ships his MFG Crosswind all over the world. There is a queue however. I ordered in December and received my unit in April.
  7. Sorry my mistake. I don't use facebook much and when I clicked on it, it said page moved or deleted. But I forgot I have to sign in to facebook before being able to see other facebookies :)
  8. I meant to convey that rudder pedals are very much more effective in prop based planes and helo's. For the sake of accuracy. I didnt mean that rudder input is not needed in modern planes. Only that in modern simulations in my opinion, one can do with rudder on twist or even buttons. Whereas helos and prop based planes really shine with a good set of rudder pedals.
  9. His facebook page is a dead link! Not instilling any confidence! Not a really good way to start a kickstarter... Video clip of machining will come online shortly... I would have all this stuff online as soon as the kickstarter starts to entice people enough to make it to the deadline. Serious serious doubts about this one.
  10. Be sure you have the latest (few years old) firmware flashed. It considerably reduces the sloppy center. Although not too many people liked this but I do. With just the right amount of force feedback you can fly hands off due to the autopilot authority. So this means flying with AP banks Heading, roll and pitch on. And don't forget to tape of the deadmans sensor or you won't be doing any hands off flying :p PS: you might be wondering why flashing firmware effects the centering springs... This is because the Logitech G940 does not have any centering springs :)
  11. Rudder pedals are very immersive but in modern fighters not really needed. WWII crates rely much more heavily on rudder input. So if you are going to fly alot of WWII or even WWI crates then rudder pedals are a huge bonus. The pedals vary from 80 bucks to 5000 bucks. But the MFG crosswind and its metal russian counterpart are the best bang for buck considering fidelity and price. But if you would be willing to spend 350 dollars or upwards for 1 rudder axis and 2 brake axiis is debatable. I for one can't live without my MFG Crosswind anymore. And now that rudder trimming is is removed from the black shark its a dream to fly. Just like any prop based planes.
  12. Almost 4 years later and i'm still rocking my Logitech G940. Did have to repair my Throttle because of dials spiking. cost me 10 bucks. Put in an extention cable because the stock cable is too short and pulls on the circuitry. Did remove the big ass spring in my pedals but next week the MFG Crosswind is arriving. All in all the joystick itself is in good working order and I really can't fly without force feedback ever again. If the joystick itself keeps working properly my money has been well spent all these years. I don't care if I need to replace the throttle and or rudder. But my stick will be cremated with me!
  13. Have you installed DCS world for steam? When not using steam, DCS world is now the universal platform from which you install your modules and connect to multiplayer. I don't know how it works on Steam but I found that DCS World is also available for steam. So try installing that. its free. From within DCS World you might be able to activate your A-10C module and then commence multiplayer. I don't know if this is still true but modules bought on steam and modules bought on digitalcombatsimulator.com are not compatible with eachother.
  14. I have the same problem. In nav(any) mode the HSi is not working so i have to look at the HeadsdownDisplay waypoint map or follow the circle on the HUD. FLew all training missions under FC2 and now am in second mission of the original campaign. HSI has not worked so far. very hard to intercept a waypoint track. edit: but mine might be because of early take-offs. I havent waited for alignment in retrospect. disregard for now.
  15. Yeah its in the appstore now for 40 bucks.
  16. sorry for digging up this thread but before I buy the BS2 update... Did they tackle the trim rudder problem? iirc whenever you trimmed and you had full right rudder for instance and you kept your foot on full right rudder, the amount of rudder was doubled. except when you centered the rudder which still meant you would have full right rudder. I would hope that they had an option to remove the rudder from trimming.
  17. Pro clip is somewhere between 30 and 45 dollars i think. not sure i bought mine as a bundle with trackir5. The led will react to your cigarette though. especially while you inhale and the cigbut becomes red hot. I then usually move my cig out of screen to the right and the image reverts back. I have only used trackir so don't know what differences there are. I only know that I can't fly WITHOUT trackir anymore :) Trackir comes with a hatclip. and you need to either buy the proclip for your headset separately or find a bundle deal. edit: I can move my head 45 to 60 degrees without problems. ussually though I don't need that much of freedom. I have setup my profile to do at most 30 degrees. With this I can look in game over my shoulders. I have a stiff neck and can't even turn my head 90 degrees :)
  18. make sure the driver is uninstalled also in device manager. in some cases the old driver remains which will give problems with your new trackir 5.1
  19. Yes that is true. it has force feedback and with the DCS-Blackshark if you push the trim button and move your stick forward and let go of the trim button, the stick will stay in that position as if its the central position. Be aware though that you can't use curves or deadzones. Since curves and deadzones stay in the absolute center and not the new center the stick is in. But this was not an issue for me. I play both A-10c and blackshark with this stick and hopefully VERY VERY soon il2 CLIFFS OF DOVER!!! That is hopefully a game where this stick will shine. Because actually for high tech planes FFB is simply a minor addition. because of all the hydraulics involved it works like your power assisted steering in your car. In WW2 crates and also microsoft flight simulator FFB is MUCH MUCH more notable. For instance if you start a roll and then level out HARD, if you don't pay attention, because of the momemtum the stick will flip hard to the other side!!! Also taking off your stick will shake. In IL2 and rise of flight if you go near stall speed the stick will become limp because there are no forces working on the airelons and elvators. Also with landing you will feel the stick be looser and thus you need to be more concentrated. All in all forcefeedback in my opinion adds an extra dimension to flying. (prop planes!!) For more high tech modern planes the difference isnt that notable. So if you only plan to play A-10c then maybe a cheaper stick is an option. If you want to fly alot of prop planes/bi-planes and the like then FFB is something you really will get a kick out of :)
  20. Can someone post the original missions for me please? A&B? i've been tampering with the missions and forgot to make backups. I think I broke them because although i passed the first mission. i got no score whatsoever. I would like to try the mission as intended since I believe I have made some progress in flying. Do you guys get rid of the stationary AAA's? I figure I would need to if I want to try it with guns only as strongharm did :)
  21. I don't know if i understand correctly but the only radio you can setup to use the 124.00 am freq is the top radio. So thats the VHF AM. Thumb of rule you can use is that top VHF AM radio is to use freq in the 1xx.00 range. UHF in the 2xx.00 range and VHF FM in the xx.00 range Not precisely sure what range all radio's have but above seems to be about right. There is no overlap in freq to my knowledge. Make sure the radio's are set to sent and receive. TK I think it is shown in game. You might have set it to that though. I don't know.
  22. IIRC from what the instructor told me, in the landing training mission, pattern altitude was 6000ft
  23. I don't know... I don't sit on the fence. I jumped straight over it like it was a 5 inch high hurdle. Would there be many potential buyers even visiting this forum?
  24. Hmm.. no reply? The radio's should be on when doing quick action but you might wanna check if the radio in the middle, the digital one, the left dial is set to both. If you are taking it small steps at a time you might wanna make sure easy comms is selected in the game options. That way when you do HOTAS mic down (be sure to bind it offcourse) the radio will input the necessary freq. You might want to set it to preset but I don't think thats necessary with easy comms. Then follow what viper said.
  25. Ok granted. after 2 long weeks on and off playing the campaign I finally finished mission 2 of the devils cross campaign. Now here it comes. During de-briefing I get commended for having had a huge part in winning this war!!!! damnit the war is over??? Why WHY!! I've only flown 2 sorties... They pat me on the head for a nice job and shove me off... When I look in the mission editor there seem to be 5 missions for this campaign each having a variant. Is the campaign supposed to end after 2 missions? is it a bug? or did i do TOO good???? If so I will try to do badder next time....
