  1. My post was prior to the last update. It seems that they have made big a difference to the wheel drag with better roll off, which is awesome. Before, I would throttle up on touchdown just so I can make it to the taxi turn off! As to the other things, I really don't know, I've never seen one taxi and turn before IRL. If I would guess I wouldn't expect them to body roll that much with such a wide gear stance.
  2. The fact you're adding more radios for tac is awesome. Having only three can be a little restrictive at times.
  3. Does the M2K seem like it has very high drag when on the ground? When I land it's like ditching the aircraft in the swamps of Dagobah.
  4. We were just testing SR now. 1.1.8.0. It appears the radio order is messed up in the "Settings". What you set doesn't correspond with the radio stack order or what you hear. EDIT: We rolled back to the older version and the problem disappears.
  5. No worries at all, mate! Thanks for dropping by. Just keep an eye out in your forums for the next one.
  6. If you want we're having a mission night for the 161st sqn on Sunday 1830 AEST. You're welcome to join us. TeamSpeak is dcsts.aef-hq.com.au:9988.
  7. Aerobraking is just practice, you'll get it no problems with a bit of time. There was a period of time when the air system in the Mig-21 was bugged and it prevented the chute from being used on landing. A bunch of people got real good at aerobraking because of it.
  8. External fuel tanks are unavailable for the Mig-21 and Mirage for all missions. It's been like that for quite some time now. Also I haven't been able to establish a connection with SimpleRadio.

    How to use jammer?

THis is a bit of a noob question, but is the jammer the Eclair pod?
  10. Is that the lack of bullseye coords on the mfd? No winder I couldn't find it. It makes life hard not having it.
  11. Heaters only. Normally R13m for the longer straight shots and R60m for the shorter stuff, especially if they are aware of you. I vary rarely ever use the R3Rs anymore as they can't be used at low level. Best way to get the hang of it is just to fly as much as you can then afterward think about what was good and bad when you are not in the sim and being distracted by things. With me anyway it's only really later that I realise what I was doing wrong. One thing to remember is that have WAAAAAYY more acceleration than he does, so if you can get a little breathing room it's possible to sprint out of range.
  12. I've been fiddling around with tactics with both aircraft and found they do occupy different areas of performance. The Mig is all about energy and acceleration using hit and run tactics, while the F5 has excellent agility that makes it surprisingly dangerous in the turning fight. What I found works reasonably well with the Mig is to skim in from a fairly low level at about mach 0.9 with radar off flying at a slight offset heading to where you expect the enemy to be so you can look out the side where you have better vision. Just using your eyes to scan for any F5 against the acid blue sky. Like this you should be able to spot him sooner than they spot you as the Mig can be difficult to discern with the ground behind it, especially from front or back. I try and avoid approaching them from a frontal angle as it increases the chance of them counter-detecting you, their radar is much better than yours and can operate at low altitude. When I spot one I just build that energy and make a single pass and then run while he's busy defending. He doesn't have the acceleration or speed to follow by the time he figures out (if he ever does) where you went. Sometimes I stick around an turn with them if I think they have lost sight of me or they're asleep at the wheel, but normally avoid turning fights with an F5.
  13. Just reporting I have the sound, Control GUI and cockpit view jerk bugs too. The jerk issue is taken care of with the temp fix in "Special". I also notice the two IFF releated switchs are now locked. This might be intentional. EDIT: On top of that it appears contrails are broken for it in 2.02 aswell.
  14. Just to add a little to the topic: The Mig-21 radar is stabilized to horizon within certain limits. ~70 degree roll and -8/+25 degree pitch. AFAIK stabilization is fairly common with fighters.
  15. This has become an unexpectedly interesting discussion. I stumbled on a conversation concerning Australian Mirage IIIs and from what I gather they had a stability assist system of some sort and on landing approach they had to switch a pitch assist mode off otherwise it will try and keep the nose pitched up on the approach AOA on touchdown, much like the M2000 FBW does in DCS. Would this be for the same reasons? Just a little disclaimer: This was a while ago and I might be mistaken with how I heard and remembered it. Plus also it's concerning two very different aircraft, so there's that. Just wondering if they had common reasoning.
  16. That gave me a little chuckle, GG. I'm away for work at the moment, but the mention of using enough flare on touchdown reminded me of something I found: When I was doing a few landings and hitting the 14 degree AOA on the glidescope I was hesitant to pull more flare just before touchdown thinking I would earn a tail strike. This caused a pretty solid landing impact, but no damage. What's the recommended flare rotation? I'd go find myself, but no PC for now and curiosity is killing the cat.
  17. Well, whatever the definition is, being able to push past transonic under mil power and external stores is a bit unusual. Will be interesting to see how the modeling iterates over the coming updates.
  18. Is the high acceleration of the M2K normal? Especially through the high drag transonic range it seems to accelerate rapidly through this regime without any difference compared to subsonic or supersonic. I also notice it can supercruise under full mil power at altitude with 2x Magic and 2x Super missiles loaded.
  19. The problem is a leak issue with the pneumatic system once the brakes are first used. As long as there is pressure in it then the chute works fine. That's why you can take off, get into trouble and use the chutes for recovery no problem because there is still available pressure. Much later in the flight though and it's a different story. It only seems to work when binding the brake with an analogue axis. Rebinding to a button is a workaround. As far as I know the issue has never been fixed since it started about 2-3 months ago, although I haven't checked in 1.5.2
  20. It's a problem that got detected over half a year a go. I'm not sure why it hasn't been mentioned by the devs, let alone addressed in all this time.
  21. Maybe they missed the report? It's been a while and not even a mention that the issue is recognised. Things slip through the cracks sometimes and they're pretty busy. It happens.
  22. Although 1.2 is the official stable release right now, 1.5beta is pretty much the same in capability, but with vastly improved performance with the EDGE rendering engine and is also stable. If you were running BS1 with your setup, then 1.5 will perform and look much, much better on it. You will have to upgrade your BS1 to BS2 for it to work. 2.0 heralds in the rollout of the NTTR map, but right now it's a bit limited from early release bugs and no Georgian map yet. The dust is still settling with 2.0 and there will most likely be rapid changes over the short term that might be frustrating to deal with if testing and bug reporting isn't your focus. Ultimately 2.0 will be the best of all versions (It's showing awesome promise so far), but it's only just been released and there's still plenty of work to be done. If just getting back into the driver's seat and expecting it to just work is your goal then I'd go for 1.5. The thing is that you can also download 2.0 and install it fine, it won't interfere with 1.5 and the installer will grab about 17GB of data from it when installing 2.0 saving you on having to download it. They run side by side just fine.
  23. Good stuff with getting the Mig-21. it's a visceral and fun aircraft to fly. LN have done an awesome job realising this historic aircraft. If all you're looking for is whatever can dominate the sky then it's not for you. However if you're looking for a memorable and rewarding challenge that gives you a real sense of achievement, then the Mig fits the bill. Whether you are shaking your head at the interesting Russian ergonomics of the cockpit, weighing up if you can make that Mach 2 dash, communicating your hate for the radar's limitations on an alternate mental frequency, or splashing that "Superior" enemy fighter from the sky; the Mig is a milestone DCS aircraft. It's one of those modules that really shows what DCS can do.
  24. Enough of this mindless speculation, I have it all worked out...
  25. Since 1.5 I find it's a bit easier to spot the Mig, but it's still pretty difficult compared to the heavy fighters, especially from length on with the ground as a backdrop. Sometimes I see the exhaust smoke before I notice the fighter. In one fight I was one of a pair of Migs that bounced an F-15 at low level. The other Mig got on his 6, where I ended up doing a head to head pass. The F-15 thundered past and looked pretty big and intimidating, but the Mig going past chasing him almost right after was just this diminutive little thing. It looked like a David versus Goliath fight.
