  1. I second that, changing laser code shouldn't require shutting down engine. I understand that designing new rearming system that would incorporate setting laser code would take precious manhours, but how about just removing the condition of aircraft fully off? It's not only unrealistic but also a pain in the lower lower back
  2. In case of HARM you can select particular emitter, for example if there is search and track radar you can pick which one do you want to target. Active mode of LD-10 means just "go and look over there" which not always is enough. SP mode is kind of a workaround because it will target the track radar that's locking you up.
  3. The way it works seems to me to be closer to Sidearm on steroids rather than HARM. Of course since it's based on a Fox 3 missile it has all the goodies like INS to increase its effectiveness, but still you can't really target it, just launch and hope for the best. Still useful though
  4. Also worth noting that in case of laser maverick you don't need to see its page at all, just lase, uncage, point the nose of the aircraft in the general direction of the target, once you see the target boxed on your HUD and you're within the firing range (laser Maverick can lock on from further away than TV/IR guided ones so ballistic range becomes an issue) you can fire
  5. Only AGM-65E2 can be self designated. You can't have targeting pod and Maverick feed open at the same time.
  6. Go and get Chuck's Guide for Harrier, everything is explained there. In VREST page click VL (Vertical Landing), you will have F+W value, it means maximum combined weight of fuel and water you can have to attempt vertical landing in current conditions either wet, with water enabled, or dry, with water disabled. By default you have 500 lbs of water on board. Keep in mind by default those values assume you're going to land on the boat, if you're landing at a FARP that's located significantly above the sea level you're going to need to remember that engine generates less thrust at higher altitudes. You can input FELV (field elevation, altitude of your landing spot) to allow computer to make necessary corrections.
  7. Use the VREST page to see how much fuel can you have in current conditions and still be able to hover. If I were to guess the GR video is a couple years old, at some point Harrier had its engine power reduced to be more realistic. For vertical landing I jettison all remaining stores to be as light as possible, even then it's not easy.
  8. Shame, I guess I'll just have to "git gud" and learn how to bomb without a computer
  9. How far away were you? Was ground in the background of your target? In DCS just because you can see the target on your radar doesn't necessarily mean you can get a lock, in that case you need to get a bit closer an try again
  10. In a pinch it's better to use dogfight mode and switch to SD-10 with the hotas button, gives you better off bore capability and reduces the chance of missile going after friendly
  11. Try setting different target size
  12. ARBS is doing the LSS, not NAVFLIR
  13. As long as missile is selected for instance on that panel with buttons below left MFD you're good to go, I'm not sure but I think switching master modes also deselects weapons.
  14. You don't need the LMAV feed, just uncage it and wait for the lock, you will get proper symbology on HUD
  15. Don't forget smaller LS-6 due to lack of wings would be classified as bombs, not A2G missiles, so they wouldn't be shot at by SA-15's and SA-10's. I don't know if there is a rack for JF-17 that allows loading 4 bombs per pylon like SDB's, or if the standard dual rack can be fitted on the inner pylons, even when using the smallest bombs it would most likely not be possible to carry more than 6 bombs
  16. CM-400 is not happening, but smaller LS-6 would be cool, I wonder if they can be double racked like GBU-12. SD-10 INS is in progress if I remember correctly. Cruise page would be godsent for longer missions, especially since I suck at AAR. Other than that I'm happy with JF-17, I don't think there are any other major features left to implement. Later blocks are physically different from what we have in game so expecting those features would be unreasonable I think, even without considering legal issues and data availability. I'm not gonna lie, I would love cheek mounted TGP, but it's a slippery slope and people would use it as an argument to demand HMD, PL-10's, PL-15's, AESA radar and other stuff, instead of enjoying one of the best modules in DCS with the best track record
  17. Tutorials on youtube tend to be outdated, you have to ask ground crew to remove engine covers first
  18. It means something, I just can't recall what
  19. It starts updating once you're within like 15 seconds from release point
  20. CCIP is what I think you consider a manual mode, it will display on the HUD targeting reticle (or reflected reticle) showing where it predicts the bomb would fall if it was released right now. DTOS is from what I understand like Harriers point blank designation CCIP-to-CCRP, except it's a separate mode instead of just holding a button, you aim with HUD, press the button, it switches to CCRP and you know the rest. DIR is an unassisted backup mode, you have to use bombing tables like in F5 or Mig-21. You want to use CCRP aka AUTO to make it easier for the targeting pod to track your target, for yourself to keep the target within targeting pods gimbal limits and to keep yourself out of the harms way, the whole point of laser guided bombs is that you don't need to dive bomb to hit the same postal code as your target, if anything (atmospheric conditions aside) the higher you go the better because bomb has more time and kinetic energy to maneuver
  21. I don't think it's supposed to filter out radars, more likely the ground units located by GMT radar mode transmitted over datalink
  22. True, it's good to remember that you don't have to go back if you realize you forgot to update your DTC after 15 minutes of flight
  23. Or you can just ask ground crew to update your DTC
  24. According to Our Lord and Savior Chuck it's time of flight
  25. Eh, sounded kinda weird at first but she grows on you. And Betty in Herc sounds a bit worse imho but still I wouldn't care as long as she saves my butt from fiery death or, even worse, embarrassment. Also MAWS and Betty's "missile, missile, missile" saved me from heatseeker or two up my tailpipe so I can't complain
