  1. The spitfire is indeed hard to land properly, prone to bouncing and wing dropping compared to the P-51, which is much easier and docile when touching the ground in DCS. I don't know if it's realistic or not, but the difference is substancial. I don't own any other warbirds so I can't make any other comparisons. You have to make sure you are around 90mph on the threshold and flare REALLY close to the ground and keep it there till touch-down. I am not very good landing the spit and I'm more succesful when going somewhat fast, as she bleeds speed really fast after the flare. I found that 2-point landings are easier, but read other people here saying otherwise, so I don't know.
  2. UPDATE: I've had some other CtDs in other training missions, and I've learned this: If I load an Instant Acition mission first, exit and THEN launch a training mission, they ALL work just fine, no CtDs.
  3. dcs.logHello, I recently purchased the P51 module and since then I've been unable to fire the 1st tutorial, it always CtDs in loading screen. I tried to remove all mods, but it's always the same at the same point. Log attached. I played the next tutorial and a couple of instant actions with no problem. It seems to be just this one.
  4. Thank you too, Fenrir! I just bought the P51 module in the summer sale, so some of these may just be the cherry on top.
  5. Oh, man, that is one helpful post! Thank you very much, sir. I'll make that the checklist for my summer readings.
  6. Hi all, I thoroughly enjoyed Pierre Clostermann's WW2 memories 'The Big Show' -I have to thank @Reflected and his wonderful DCS Spitfire campaign for that- and I'm wondering if you people know of any other good books similar to this one or as enjoyable for a flight simmer. Usually books about air war history don't go so deep into the feeling of flying and fighting in those machines and into the handling and tecnical details, and that's what I loved about Clostermann's memories. Everything sounded so familiar and yet so different -the difference between being comfortably seated at home or frozen at 15k+ feet, flipping switches and stuff with big uncomfortable leather gloves, oxigen mask and goggles, with your guts cramped in fear. Also the guy really knew how to write.
  7. OOOH! I've been a couple of times in Duxfurd (one of them in a Flying Legends Airshow) and never heard of this! I flew in a Tiger Moth, which was beautiful, and there was a super-super-expensive option to fly in a rare tandem cockpit spit, which was waaay out of my budget. Just being inside the copckpit would've been incredible. My wife worked and lived for three years in Cambridge, and I would come and go. It was wonderful there, and we both have wonderful memories of those years. We met lots of people from all around Europe and we still keep contact with some of them.
  8. I think this only happens with supersampling on. It's been a while since I used TAA, but I seem to recall that the mirror turned black again with TAA.
  9. This update caught me by surprise in my second replay of the campaign and had to start it all over again. I admit skipped a few missions, though. There are more changes than I expected, well done sir. Today I played the attack mission against the Munsterland in Cherbourg: nice touch that refuelling scale in Ford! It was very foggy and I did a terrible landing damaging my kite... luckily the game counted it as ok and let me carry on. I'm reading the book as I play, and I loved to fly what I just read about. It's a really immersive experience. The book is a must for any combat flight enthusiast, I really recommend it. It's just another thing that I have to thank Reflected for, I might have missed it if it wasn't for your work, sir.
  10. Confirmed FIXED after formatting SSD and reinstalling.
  11. I'm starting to think this is a SDD problem. The same weird behaviour of 100% disk active time with intermitent read/write peaks and valleys is happening when updating to the new version from Steam, without even running the game, and making the PC slugish even browsing that SDD with the file explorer. I googled the problem and my disk model and it seems that a bunch of people is having the same problems with similar Kingston SSDs in the last months. EDIT: Just formatted SSD, reinstalling everything right now. Let's see what happens.
  12. Sorry I didn't get back. I had another freeze, but it was when using Barthek's Caucasus retextured map mod. Again with the same traits as before: it didn't freeze the first mission but when loading a second mission after having previously played in another map. I haven't had time to play DCS in the last weeks so I didn't test it further. Previous freezes weren't related to that map, so I'm not eager to blame the mod so quickly. Again sorry for not thoroughly test this issue. I'll try to see this through. I just don't have as much free time lately, since I started preparing and practicing for the ULM flight license.
  13. After deleting the script file and running the integrity verification process in steam I did a quick test and could succesfully load, exit and load another mission in different maps three times in a row with no problem. I'll do further testing during the weekend with actual playing in long, big missions and see how it goes, but so far looks good because this quick test wouldn't work before. I already had done a integrity verification last week when I first noticed these freezes, so I guess it's the scripts thingie that did the trick? I don't know how this can be, since it's been there for a looong time, but go figure... I'll get back with confirmation as soon as I can. Thank you!!!
  14. Hi! First of all thank you for the quick response! Regarding the scripts, I installed a "Dynamic Campaign Engine" campaign a long time ago, maybe this modified some scripts? I thought I uninstalled it, though. I don't have a clue about script files. I'm running the integrity verification process right now, maybe it will revert the script files to their original status. I'll report back as soon as i have time to play again.
  15. Hello, DCS MT is reliabily freezing every session when I try to load a 2nd mission. First one always plays fine, even big and long campaign missions (replaying The Big Show right now). But if I try to load another mission, quick action or training after that, the game freezes in loading screen or just after loading. nullTask manager shows that the ssd disk I have DCS installed in has 100% active time with unstable tranfer rate when this freeze happens. Screenshot attached. After closing the game, all those DCS.exe processes listed in the disk activity section linger on, and it takes a few minutes until they end and disk active time turns back to normal. My pagefile is in other SSD unit, btw. Here's the log: dcs.log
  16. The thing is that what that video says works in DCS. 1/3 approx of brake pressure makes the landing less bouncy and the wheels better stick to the tarmac, with less wing drop risk. How is this possible I don't know, but it may be an indicación that the landing gear physics aren't working as they should.
  17. This old video has an innovative approach to avoiding wingdrop nastyness... land with partial wheelbrakes! I tried it and it definitely helps to maintain stability after touchdown: less 'bouncyness' and less tendency to wing dropping. I have no clue as to why this happens, but it definitely makes landing easier for me.
  18. I don't know about boring, but in my limited experience with DCS jets, I got less engaged with the F/A-18 than I was with the previous module I got, the M2000. The Mirage is beautiful and its vintage cockpit and instruments were more inspiring for me than the powerful and very effective screen+buttons interface of the F/A-18. But I think the main reason I didn't enjoy the Hornet so much is because I didn't find the appropiate campaigns for my (lacking) skills. The stock one is ok-ish but brief and although there are many user-made ones, I tried some and tend to be in the hard side for me. The Mirage has less ones available (both user-made and official), but with a friendly learning curve. I didn't try Raven One Campaign for F/A-18 because it needs the Supercarrier module, but I did enjoy quite a lot Baltic Dragon's campaign for the Mirage. If any of you has some suggestions for good F/A-18 campaigns or mission sets appropiate for not-so-good virtual pilots I am all ears.
  19. Thank you! I'll give it a go. I'm having a lot of trouble telling ground targets from the background through the green tainted armored glass. I spot and approach them from an angle, turn and do the final dive for the kill and when it comes to aiming then it's all a lot of green stuff. I'd wish there was a gfx option to make ground targets slightly more visible without resorting to labels.
  20. Is there any way to install only the portion of the mod that applies to the armored glass and reticle? The rest of the new cockpit is quite good now in 2.9.
  21. Regarding the work on ATC: can I make a little request?... please have the tower guy shout at me when I'm on final with no wheels, would you?
  22. 20. ED is currently working on WWII assets and more specifically for the Marianas map. Naval assets mentioned for WWII Naval Aviation. 28. No planned Japanese aircraft modules or assets for WWII period. Mmmmmh, this is confusing. What's the point of working in a Marianas WWII map without anything Japanese? I understand no playable modules, but no assets whatsoever?. Is this map intended just for training and sightseeing?
  23. Hello! I'm trying to use this in the Key Emulation mode with the Radio Panel and it seems straightforward enough, but It doesn't seem to be able to emulate a "push and hold key" action when I set the duration of the input to longer values in the 'press time' drop down. It's doing more like a series of quick infinitesimal inputs instead of a single continuous one. Is this WAD?
  24. Same here. Just bought the map and this catched my eye. I don't think this happens in any other map I own.
  25. I was thinking about more dynamic situations. I'm currently playing the Dynamic Campaign Cyprus Incident with the M2k and when it generates missions for ground strike with bombs that use the central pylons, the planes are loaded with the 2! wing tanks. The Mirage is very heavy with so much weight and I would like to be able to order my flight to drop tanks if we need to get out of there fast, or just to fly fast enough to avoid AA fire during the strike.
