When motion blur is fixed for VR can you please include another slide for a mask like MSAA. So we can have motion blur on our peripherals but not our focal point? As an option of course for those who choose to use motion blur. This will help not only with the feeling of speed a bit but will help in VR with the ghosting if you're not running reprojection.

VR vs 2D graphical settings (what actually works?)
HoBGoBLiNzx3 replied to HoBGoBLiNzx3's topic in DCS 2.9
Thanks for the response. Any idea on if SSLR works? I've tried it on but I don't really notice a difference in reflections. Especially on surface objects. I'm currently trying to figure out if AF or MSAA actually have any effect on clouds and if a higher AF will make the mesh too sharp creating more jaggies and blocks. Also, I think that everyone is aware thus far that canopy reflections like flare and dirt are much much more prominent than in 2D. -
There are a few videos out there on VR settings and I'm aware of the performance impacts at least in 2D and most on VR but there isn't really definitive list out there for what settings work in VR or at least the ones that don't seem to make any visual impact such as Depth of Field in VR. If SSAA works without MSAA and or with MFAA on. If someone is willing to list the visual settings that do not apply to VR that would be fantastic. I'm trying to figure out if SSAO actually works in VR. This is the one I'm really interested in atm. I don't see why it shouldn't but some settings also just don't look how they do in 2d, heat blur being another example. Thanks guys!

80% on OXRT and 80% Sharpening on CAS (with FFR on custom) It's not my frames, I get good frames during the day even on larger online missions. It's night time and rain that just kill my FPS for some reason. ESP rain on the carrier and I'm at 20fps from 50-60. That is without secondary shadows. Shadows = high Terrain Shadows = Flat + Blurring Terrain Textures = High Textures = High Distance = Medium Traffic = OFF MSAA = 2 AF = 4 CP Illumin = OFF Reflections = Dirt (everything else is pretty much off) and I'm very generous on the sliders as well.... As I've tuned it pretty well for heavy missions and online play.

I have an i7-9700k, 32gb, SSD, 3080, and a Reverb G2. Have medium to highish settings. Get an avg of 50FPS during the day and on carrier. However, with rain I'm getting huge drop in frames (10-25fps and 10ms) as a side note at night I also lose 10fps and I seem to have a layer of odd mesh lighting when I zoom in (on PG) it almost looks like a fulstrum culling issue with the new lighting (even though I have it off) Obviously, I can't produce this with a track as it's not duplicated via VR mirror for the lighting, and for the weather I can't see how a track would help as it will give you the exact same numbers I just gave you from load to exit. I drop less frames running 4x MSAA than having rain on a mission... esp at night. It's like 30fps hit.

cannot reproduce and missing track file F-18 Radar Issues?
HoBGoBLiNzx3 replied to HoBGoBLiNzx3's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I found that a lot of my bugs were HOTAS axis related. Once you remapped them to buttons it worked much better. I think ED should look into more ways of implementing more axis options. Likeouse being able to control TDC cursor and not just for HOTAS.. Likely not a priority, but something I think is very highly usable... The X2 thumb stick is a mouse and not an analog stick so it's practically useless. -
Hence why we are waiting for the tech I just reffered to.. Vulkan and DLSS will make a lot of mid range cards run it fine. It's no different than people will older cards trying to run new titles. People are tweaking DCS because they have the options to see if they can get the best visual fidelity out of it while still maintaining performance. In 2D people do the same thing. Trying shadows vs AA techniques etc. Yes we have already came to the conclusion that you do it more in VR.. It's understandably more to fiddle with.... So is a PC vs a Console.. not a reason to get a console now is it?

I think that would ultimately but up to the individual. Some people get it where they like it and as long as the performance is good then they are happy. I'm that way. The problem is DCS updates might ruin performance, and to get it running smooth you need to tinker a bit (at least until they have all the performance options available as stated before). Like right now, I get 70fps with a reverb G2 at 100% res and on most servers 50. However, GS server I was just getting 30 and it frustrated me.. but that could be the server... the update.. who knows. At least I have it when i have the itch!

VR enhances the experience of the sim 10 fold though. People wouldn't bother with it (and yes it can be frustrating) if it wasn't totally worth the experience.

Cause I'm assuming he uses it for more than just DCS. You're not wrong, a lot of it is DCS, obviously VR titles themselves run great. Once we get DLSS and Vulkan It will definetly help to where fiddling isn't really nessesary (unless you want to but you can do that in 2D too..) The newer headsets are really comfortable and light weight. My Quest2 was really sweaty. My G2 isn't so bad. I hear the newer ones are really nice though, some of them even have fans that blow cold air in.

Go get a 4k Monitor with 120hz and a good VR headset and you'll be bullet proof for a while. If you have the dough, people are loving the Varijo Aero or Pimax 8KX.. You can get a good headset used for pretty cheap though. Game changer!

cannot reproduce and missing track file F-18 Radar Issues?
HoBGoBLiNzx3 posted a topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Anyone having any issues? TWS/RWS, even on spot mode I won't get a brick unless within 20km. I have to use LHQC (that won't lock directly in front of hud either) Radar elevation is right on, aspect is correct, even radar cross section, and aircraft size is correct. Literally wont get bricks within visual range.. They randomly decide to hit, generally at very close ranges. The Hornet radar seems to have a mind of it's own. F-14, F-16, none of them have this issue. I won't even get bricks until I'm getting RWR warnings on pitbulled missles. -
I definetly was able to get through a MP mission with 32 players on DDCS with my page file set. It will do for now until I get a new MB/CPU/RAM combo. I just got the 3080 so stepping everything up to this level is a big step in RAM consumption. Thanks for the help Flappie! It was still hitched a bit, but that could be because it's an older Samsung SSD. RAM will definetly be the soultion moving forward.

Not according to my good friend who sometimes has to work 3 days straight to make a deadline because he's hopping on a plane to meet with them across the country. Either way, must be nice lol. For the 300000X time I'm not talking about ED. I stated I'm totally okay with delays. They happen in every industry just not as an excuse to become a standard. That is in stark contrast to the "get it when it's ready" mentality. EA as people have brough up is a prime example of that. I'm sure a lot of that has to do with unrealistic deadlines as over promising. THAT is one thing. I think many people can sympathize with programmers who have to deal with it. Still, as a company, if you're not meeting your deadlines constantly you should be looking at one of the two and figure it out. Or you end up with BF5... Still, once that deadline is given, it looks bad on the company if you can't put copies in stores by the given release date...There is more than goes into running a business logistically than just software development. Anyways to get back on topic. I'm looking forward to the update. MP should be much smoother with mission makers able to actually add more logic like naval warfare without the server exploding.
-
I think that is most industries. I have to imagine even in software development there are hard deadlines. IE. Defense contracts.. Especially when there are other organized events planned ahead, etc. Like I said, I wasn't specifically talking about this update. I was referring to the statement made. As a general sentiment that "you get it when it's ready" mentality shouldn't be an industry standard in anything.

If we are updating from the previous version we only need to download the new mod and srs fix correct? There are no changes to the skin pack or tanker?

That is NOT what I said.. Stop trying to twist my words. I said that would happen in any other industry. Since you brought it up though... Yeah they absolutely COULD fire one or two of them and hire someone who doesn't mind making a deadline and set a precedent. Unheard of right? I don't think THIS situation warrants any of that and my observation was purely anecdotal and a response to someone else's statement...
-
In my industry people get fired for constantly missing deadlines.. I couldn't imagine telling a customer that they will get the product or service when it's god damn good and ready. Apparently not software development, I'm in the wrong line of work. Tell me I'm wrong... Or, just look at every franchise that has been ruined over the past 10 years.. like Battlefield. Regardless, I don't mind waiting. They were straight up about it and informed us.. just being observant.

It's in the game settings. -
I think a blend of motion blur in your peripherals would definitely help. Not the entire imagine when you move your head though so that objects that move past you would be blurred but not in your direct vision or when you move your point of focus. Also I think there needs to be a better feeling of wind resistance on the camera shake and blur. ELI 21 did a good job cinematically of this in post production. External views have always killed immersion because the aircraft looks like it's rotating perfectly on an axis. Here is the ELI 21 example.

I raised this issue on their discord. It took me 24 hours to DL it.. Hopefully CJS uploads it to ED's user mod server. If you have a VPN you don't have to worry about MEGA's traffic limit. They claim it's also by geographic location. You only get 6gb per 6 hours transfer data. Problem is sometimes it will freeze and you'll lose all of the packets you downloaded and have to start over.. but the meter doesn't check if the files were actually downloaded to your HD.. (it doesn't give you that option until the zip is done) so you're left to wait 6 hours.. start again to stop at 60% (for me it was always 60% even though the file is only like 6.7gbs)
