Military Assets for DCS by Currenthill
Citizen replied to currenthill's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
Hi there, The image posted above appears to be an M7 Linebacker. The BFiST lacks the starboard turret optical port of the Linebacker, and the Linebacker as pictured lacks the Fire Support Sensor System. Critically, the BFiST features an armored optics box where the standard Bradley mounts a TOW launcher, which is where the Linebacker mounts a Stinger quad-pack as seen above. -

Hi! The only time I experienced anything like that I had accidentally nested the folder in /tech/ Make sure that your file structure is \Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\mods\tech\Project_205_OSA Class BETA\ I had a situation where my structure was \Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\mods\tech\[mod name]\mods\tech\[modname] and DCS can't read that. Essentially, the first folder after \mods\tech\ or \mods\aircraft\ needs to contain the entry.lua -

It's so good to hear that your operation went well. You're in our thoughts - pain management is no joke. The Fitzgerald looks great. I was fortunate enough to see the Paul Hamilton this year at Fleet Week, which I believe is a similar Flight 1 vessel. -

Landing on this babushka is a joy! Pleasing Soviet lines and no FPS drop when I get close, and a small-ish pad with ominous SAM missile to be mindful of. -

I suspect that most of my missions have one of your ships somewhere. A lot of people prefer single player DCS and I think it's less common for screenshots to escape that player segment. We should normalize showing off our SP missions! I previously spent all of my DCS time in fixed wing go-fast jets, which doesn't leave a big window to appreciate ship assets aside from RWR pings. Now that I'm becoming more appreciative of the heretical rotary wing aircraft, I have more of an opportunity to see them up close. I haven't been able to pin down a reason why, but it's not uncommon to see big FPS drops when landing on decks with helicopters - and I would assume VTOL fixed wing as well but I haven't messed with that much. -

Responding to a threat to national security at the port. Don't forget to appreciate the civil ships, folks! Admiral did great work on 'em. -

Is there a unit you've love to do, but haven't been able to find a reasonably priced asset for? -

If there were an issue tracker, I'd place the severity quite low. -

Very cool! More landing craft are always welcome. The helipads aren't very usable by players due to FPS issues but seems to be common. -

If the goal is to put high quality models behind a paywall, they do need some way of preventing people from pirating easily. If the DRM schema reduces the functionality of DCS (we can no longer create liveries as before) then that's a significant ethical problem.
-
Absolutely gorgeous. Texture replacement?
-
if the plan is to put ultra-high-definition models behind a paywall, i'd be willing to buy that if the plan is to force livery makers spend money on top of their own time and effort to improve DCS, I'd rather burn the money in a stove.

I notice that when AI is heavily loaded. -
I don't mind low quality pilots. Polygons add up, after all. I could understand blocking livery making if the models were the ones shown in teasers, but these - particularly the B1 - look like they're LOD models. Surely there's nothing sensitive about letting people make liveries for that?

Theoretically, a missile with a low probability of intercept radar could track a target without triggering RWR. I don't know if that's what's being modeled here, however. -

(How am I the first to comment on this?!) Incredible work, Whiskey. The JF-17 was very low on my list of modules to get and this just pushed it to the front of the line.- 68 replies

'Properly used by the AI' in terms of tactics? I would argue that none of the DCS assets are used properly by AI by that standard so it's a bit of a moot point. 'Properly used by the AI' in terms of what the AI can do with other, more modern assets? That's a few weeknights of work. I suspect that the real holdup is somewhere with - as you said above - damage states and animation, along with a healthy dose of dev/artist time being diverted to triage more pressing issues. But I don't know for certain.

The year is 2039. The community is upset that DCS uses old models from 2023. "I went up to it and licked it and it didn't even taste like anything! complete placeholder flavor profiles." With that being said, I think we've been seeing the same B-1B in promo material for over a year now. I can't wrap my head around what could be causing the holdup on an AI asset that looked great a year ago, but there's a lot I do not know.
