Placeable modern airports in Mission Editor
thedisturbingspaniard replied to clarasdk's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Totally +1. This is one of the major missing things in DCS for me. I don't even need anything super sophisticated, just give me a 2,500 m - long FARP that allows T/O and landing of planes and I'll be OK with it. Massively needed in maps like Caucasus for instance (where you can't operate any NATO aircraft with a modicum of realism, since there isn't any airfield in NATO territory and, as we know, foreign aircraft carriers aren't allowed to enter the Black Sea.) It's totally ridiculous, the only possible semi-realistic conflict that you can set up in such flagship map is the entire RuAF v. the remaining 2-3 Georgian Su-25's and their bunch of choppers ---that can't even operate from their real main airbase because it's not in the map either. The ability to locate an airfield in the fragment of Turkish territory that is detailed, or anywhere in the flat terrain around the Black Sea including several other NATO countries like Bulgaria and Romania would be a total game changer ---literally. I can literally imagine thousands of missions and campaigns from small operations to WW3 there if we just had a simple elongated FARP that will take airplanes. The only map that is approximately realistic when it comes to air bases is Syria ---and that's why I'm basically creating and playing my missions mostly there. Marianas doesn't have any airfield in even remotely realistic territory, and we don't even have proper Chinese aircraft carriers. The Persian Gulf map was admittedly intended for a very specific scenario and now it only allows for just another more carrier operation against Iran, because the beautifully detailed UAE and part of Oman has no realistic intention to get involved in wars against Iran ---and we can't have airfields in places (like Saudi Arabia) that might do. Or even the American base in Qatar. And that's the reason why I have stopped purchasing maps. I'm not interested in WW2 stuff and, AFAIK, all the new modern maps are pretty much "you can only realistically play a conflict here", at least in their present "early access" state ---and no, I'm not going to spend $50-$70 in a map "just hoping" that "one day" it will allow to play realistic-ish wars. South Atlantic? They should call it "Falklands War", I think that there're 1 or 2 airports in Chile that would allow for a Chile-Argentina showdown? Sinai? They should call it "Egypt v. Israel", there're not even airfields in Jordan or Saudi Arabia AFAIK. Nevada? OK, but it's a training range, there's no enemy and while you might create implausible but realistic-ish "Red Dawn" scenarios, the lack of more remote or peripheral airfields / air bases hampers that a lot too. The new Arctic / Kola map? Looks good, it has the potential to be "the new Syria"... when it'll eventually exist. But give me a frigging, no-frills elongated FARP to operate planes that can be placed in any flat piece of land and I'll buy all of them in a bunch. Without it, I'm sticking to Syria ---because it's the only one that "looks and feels like the real thing", or at least real potential wars. -
Sure, @NineLine, here you have it. Here I am, leading 4 Devil's Chariots, approaching a group of defenseless trucks for some training, protected by barely 2 Avengers, and betrayed by a big fat smoke marker. Every time that I asked my buddies to attack the air defenses (LWin+D), or attack the bandits (LWin+B, even if there are no bandits, I've just used it as an indicator), I was also hitting LWin+G like mad. While eventually "attack the air defenses" had a (fruitless) effect when almost overflying them, LWin+G had no effect (as in the original @Raven434th problem) even while overflying the target trucks ---no response, no reaction, no nothing, as if I wasn't hitting LWin+G. In a perfectly clear day, and approaching at 3 different altitudes and speeds. Actually, you'll see how I'm shot down by the Avengers while busy trying to estimate the distances in the f***ing middle of the trucks and my buddies running away from them with their tails between their legs. I'm using "vanilla" DCS, single-player, last version, all updated, on a more than powerful enough computer (enough to run DCS smoothly at all-maximum resolution and realism effects with lots of fighting things in my missions ---but this one is "clean" except for the land facilities, the choppers and the presumed targets). Later I attempted to change LWin+G to another keyboard combo, and also to a joystick button, with the same (lack of) effect. It's as if it didn't exist. Mi24NoCommsGroundAttack.trk

Exactly same problem here. LWin+G does nothing (no response, nothing, despite being a lot of ground targets around, and even flying right above them), LWin+D always result in "negative" or "unable" (despite being air defenses in the area). Attemped with 1, 2 and 3 fully-armed wingmen, zero results. Can anyone help, please? @Raven434th provided a track in 2021 and nobody answered, so it's not "missing info" anymore. His track above is pretty much what is happening to me too 2.5+ years later.

If Caucasus / Georgia map is ever updated, including the main (and almost only) Georgian air force base at Marneuli would make it more serious. As, in, where are we supposed to operate Georgian aircraft from???
-
Definitely missing Marneuli AB. We have a major Digital (Flight) Combat Simulator map called "Georgia" ---and the main (and almost only) Georgian air force base is simply not there. Great.

Any answer to the OP? How does the Wingloong launch its missiles, please?
-
I'm pretty sure that this must have been asked and answered a zillion times, but I'm totally unable to find a word about it. If so, just please point me to the relevant answers. My question is... that: how far apart can the units of the same SAM group be and still operate coordinately? And, will they operate even if the LOS among them is obstructed? Thank you in advance.

We Want To Hear Your Ideas For A New Map In DCS!
thedisturbingspaniard replied to danielzambaux's topic in DLC Map Wish List
+1... if we can get a decent Spanish Eurofighter and an updated Algerian Su-30 MKA at least. -
Any chance for a russian jet?
thedisturbingspaniard replied to legitscoper's topic in DCS Core Wish List
...and this is the reason why I'm not purchasing any of them. Without a comparable opponent to fight, there's no point and it makes Digital Combat Simulator utterly boring for me. So I'll continue waiting for Cold-War-Era interesting maps (Vietnam, Korea, pre-1990s Sinai, etc.) or fly thirld-worldish-style conflicts "somewhere in a fictional Africa" where none of those new shiny birds without enemies are expected. -
Yes, this is basically what I meant. A basic, simple "stripped down airport" (or its "modular components" as you suggest) would be enough for me. Just imagine the possibilities for mission / campaign creation in a lot of the already available maps: a Turkish or Armenian airbase in Caucasus (or NATO bases in Bulgaria, Romania...), Al-Udeid in Qatar or some fictional Saudi, Pakistani or Iraqi base in the Persian Gulf, a "conceptual Iranian base" in Syria's far east, provisional Argentinian and Chilean bases in South Atlantic, temporary wartime airstrips everywhere... whatever you can imagine, fictional, realistic or realistic-ish. The possibilities are almost infinite. And it can be just an "enlarged FARP" or a few basic modules or something like that ---we can later populate it as you said, if needed. (Additionally, and personally, I fly DCS as a... uh... Digital Combat Simulator, I don't mind if my (or my enemies') base is in the middle of nowhere with nothing to see around it, especially at night. But even for those who prefer the sightseeing part, it would still create a lot of possibilities.)

[Report Thread] Bugs of China Asset Pack
thedisturbingspaniard replied to RocketmanAL's topic in Chinese Asset Pack
Do the WingLoong-I AKD-10 missiles work? I'm not finding any way to make it attack a target, while the exact same mission with a Predator (for instance) works like a charm. -
No matter how I design the mission (ground attack, CAS, etc), when I use the mission editor to order the MQ-9 Reaper (or any other available UCAV, like the Predator or the Chinese Asset Pack's Wing Loong, etc.) to launch their missiles against a target... they simply ignore me and continue to the next waypoint. Is this my problem only, or is it some kind of bug?
-
I totally support this. A "generic airbase" that can be placed like a FARP, even if not very sophisticated, would add a ton of possibilities for mission / campaign creation.
-
Hey, that's great. Much appreciated, testing it right now!
-
And... still no possibility of having a realistic-ish Bayraktar TB2? Given its importance in recent conflicts, it would be a great addition.
-
Yes, Marroux, thank you, I knew that one, but it's a joke with impossible weaponry, an invented Ukrainian livery, etc. I was looking for the original one that was used to mod it. Anyway, I wouldn't like to "hijack" this wonderful Rafale thread. It was just a question because I thought (I read somewhere?) that the original was made by the Cuesta Bros. too.
-
Heck, guys, I've been laughing a lot with your implementation of the "Ukrainian Super-Bayraktar". However, I'd like to try the original one and I can't find it anywhere. May you help me to find it, please? Thank you in advance!
