AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?
tomcat_driver replied to maxsin72's topic in Virtual Reality
Sorry João, I couldn't answer. I'm not really excited for this new generation of CPUs. Too expensive and way too power hungry. -
3.0 = Two weeks!

In IT we usually say: "No changes on fridays."

Depends on what you currently have. If you already have a AM4 motherboard, a 5800x3d is a no brainer. -
F-14 v2.8 - Jamming, JESTER, and Headless Bodies!
tomcat_driver replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Honestly, these new Jester functionalities are AMAZING! I wish ED and all other developers would do the same with their multi crew modules like the Apache and F-15E. -
Got my Bios updated, a 5800x3dv. Im ready!

It does seem you're having something block the connection at network or transport level. Do you have a dedicated Wifi6 router to create a network between your PC and the headset, or trying to use your residence's wifi network ? If the later, perhaps try enabling uPnP to check if you can get it through.

Ryzen 9 5900x vs Ryzen 7 5800x3d
tomcat_driver replied to shastasm's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
More performance, yes, but worth the price, not in my opinion. Is your PC only for gaming? -
New Intel 13k series CPUs. Worth the wait?
tomcat_driver replied to tomcat_driver's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I agree. With both intel or amd, I need a new motherboard. Intel's b660 are currently selling for almost half the price than its "budget" b650 counterpart, and I can use my DDR4 RAM with intel. It boils down to being about 300€ cheaper going with the 13600k. 5800X3d although selling for almost 500€ here, is still the cheapest solution for my current AM4, albeit not the best for a mixed gaming/productivity stand point and no upgradability whatsoever down the road, nor any tunability. -
Migration to Vulkan should have happened 5 years ago. Not even Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 had DX12 5 years ago...not even a year after first release and up to very recently, DX11 was still performing better in that game.

The F-16C has a similar system.

AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?
tomcat_driver replied to maxsin72's topic in Virtual Reality
I'm dying to get myself one too. But I first need to find fuel for my car and pay the electricity bill. If there any money left after that, I can start thinking about it. -
Your argument is true if you're flying solo and just flying. If the variable AI is in place, specially ground units, the situation tends to change considerably, regardless of what CPU you have. The most taxing of all the computing cycles in DCS is the simulation itself. If you press FPS assigned key twice you can get a detailed view of all the computing cycles.

What Power Supply for 4090?
tomcat_driver replied to durka-durka's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
A 4090 consumer is not an average consumer. -
Thanks for pointing me to this thread. I didn't know newer warthogs came with an upgraded slew. I bought mine in August and it came with the old crappy slew.
-
New slew? Please clarify.

I for one am skeptical about the G2 and its recurrent cable woes. The last thing I want is to have a bricked headset because I can't source a replacement cable; see Oculus CV1.

Here hoping for a Quest 3 with a DP port.
