Just got my new 5070ti (MSI Ventus 3x OC) so I thought a new thread might be useful. I've upgraded from a 4070 so was expecting a reasonable improvement. It's early days but the jump is much better than I expected. Synthetic benchmarks (Steel Nomad and Furmark) show about a 60% bump over the 4070 which is consistent with reviews at 4k. It's always tricky evaluating performance when fps is maxed out so I tend to look at %GPU use. I use the Syria F-16 free flight as one of my performance checks. With my previous setup (5800x3d and 4070) GPU was maxed out when flying over Tripoli. With the same DCS settings my new setup (9800x3d and 5070ti) the GPU load maxed out at about 65%. (Does anyone have ideas how best to give a comparative DCS benchmark?) I have managed to overclock it to +600 core and +2000 in MSI afterburner. This is stable in Furmark and after a couple of hours of intensive missions in DCS. In Furmark this gives me +17% over base performance. I realise this is synthetic and not necessarily representative but it's still a very nice boost. The other thing I noticed is that DLSS 4 appears to run better. It could be that I am able to push resolution up and can maintain better latencies. It it could be that 50xx GPUs are better optimised!? Edit: I have since discovered that the +600 core boost is not stable and causes core throttling. +400 is stable in DCS with DLSS4 and gives me +8% in Steel Nomad.

AMD Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs

Base prices are going up. At Overclockers the "out of stock" price of MSRP Rx 9070xt cards has risen from £569.99 (6/3/25) to £629.99 (7/3/25) to £649.99 (10/3/25). I would not be surprised if the "new" MSRP target is actually £669.99 or higher. -
Most reviews I have seen show that the 5070ti is about 15% faster than a 4070ti super. In the UK they are both about the same price and availability of the 4070ti super is worse than the 5070ti. Used on eBay are selling for the same price as new. About £800.

RX 9070 XT Quest 3 Syria. Thanks to Rico1202 for posting this
Qcumber replied to AngleOff66's topic in Virtual Reality
It works but the game and decode latencies are quite high so is not likely to be a smooth experience. There are no details if DCS settings which would help. I imagine that QVFR would help a lot with the latencies. Bitrate was limited to less than 150 Mbps which suggests an unstable connection. It would be interesting to see this via meta link cable and a higher bitrate, and perhaps more stable connection. -
You should be running the latest version which is 3.10.2. Yes. I know this is confusing. By all logic it should be 4.xx etc. !?!

bye bye VR - Windows 11 24H2 Update
Qcumber replied to v2tec's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The pico 4 is still a good option. Cheaper than the Q3 and much cheaper than a Crystal Light. Also a used Quest Pro is a very good option. To qualify I have significant experience with rift s, pico 4 and Quest Pro. -
The max frame time for 72 fps is 1000/72 = 13.9ms. 13 ms is just below what is needed to maintain 72 fps. 14 ms is just above. Even though your GPU usage is only 80% it looks like you might be at the borderline for maintaining 72 fps.
-
When you say "solid 72fps" what do your frame times look like? With a good stable fps they should be essentially flat lines. If you see lots of variations or sudden spikes then this could be the issue. You say that your GPU is not maxed out but what about VRAM and CPU load? Are you getting an even load across all cores?

Table that shows the impact of settings changes
Qcumber replied to a topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
My advice is leave all settings at default except DCS. Just adjust this to meet your system needs. If it all runs OK then no worries. If not then you just might need to adjust something elsewhere. There is a lot of advice out there that is either erroneous or no longer relevant. Just keep it simple. -

This is getting very off topic. -

Ouch!!! -
Yes. I have used some aggressive settings too. With DLSS 4 the lower resolution areas are much less noticeable. Pushing the centre resolution high also helps reduce DLSS artifacts.

The prices on Overclockers website have gone from £569.99 to £629.99. Not as bad as I expected. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/pc-components/graphics-cards/amd-graphics-cards/amd-radeon-rx-9070-xt-graphics-cards?sort=price_asc -
What is your peripheral resolution? And what is your base setting in oculus link? Are you at the x1.3 setting (2745 pc)? That would make a centre res of equivalent to about 4100 px!?

Firstly, congratulations on managing to get a 5080. Secondly, it's encouraging to see that you get good results with the Q/OP. I have just upgraded to a 9800x3d and have a 5070ti arriving next week (hopefully). Could you please share your QVFR settings?

I think future prices are going to be closer to the rtx 5070ti. According to MooresLawisDead this is due to a mess up with AMD when pre-stocking cards back in January when the original launch prices were higher. This has resulted in retailer rebates. But this only applies to limited stock (13min 45sec). Edit: I think I will stick with the rtx 5070ti. I'm annoyed as I wanted to support AMD. -

I got the 5070ti for £799 (MSI Ventus OC; MSRP here is £729). It arrives next week (I hope). I got it from Amazon so have 30 day return. I'll see what the AMD stock is like next week. The Rx 9070xt base price in the UK is £569. They all went from online stores immediately and all the store servers crashed. I was ready and refreshed the second it turned 1400 and managed to get one in my basket once but then could not check out. I think it's easier to get tickets for Glastonbury festival! I have owned AMD cards before and have liked them. However, DLSS is growing on me and it does not sound like FSR4 will come to DCS anytime soon. Update: Not good for future buying. Those who bought today were very lucky. https://overclock3d.net/news/gpu-displays/retailers-confirm-limited-msrp-pricing-for-amd-rx-9070-series-gpus/ -

It looks like the only reason to buy a 5070ti is for DLSS. That means about £200 extra just for DLSS! I have ordered a 5070ti but am now considering sending it back and buying an Rx 9070xt (if I can get one). Impossible to get one today. Hopefully the stock supply will keep up with demand over the next couple of weeks. -
I managed to get a 5070ti at a decent price close to MSRP so went for that. The second hand 4080 market is inflated too. I was also considering a 9070xt.

Might be a frame time issue as I am using QVFR so it could have been spikes of CPU peaking!? Some of the cores were pushing 80% plus with my 5800x3d. I just upgraded to a 9800x3d. All cores are now about 40% max. Now I'm seriously limited by my GPU. 5070ti hopefully arriving the middle of next week.

Just upgraded my CPU motherboard and RAM and a clean w11 install. DLSS 4 is looking better. Less ghosting against the ground. Also updated to today's release of NVIDIA driver so not sure if it's this or hardware!?

Qcumber replied to LucShep's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Offtopic but I'm still finding some ghosting issues with DLSS/DLAA. That's why I was considering the rx9070xt. Similar performance to a 5070ti (according to AMD) but cheaper. Plus I couldn't get hold of a 5070ti and didn't want to wait months. I am now hoping that DLSS will continue to improve. -

Very much so Just managed to get a 5070ti from Amazon for £799 which was very unexpected so given that this is DLSS4 etc I think this will suit me better than rx9070 xt. Good OC potential. -
Quest 2 ASW does not work it just halfs my Framerate
Qcumber replied to RoboHackfeld's topic in Virtual Reality
I'm seeing the same. If ASW kicks in it's no longer smooth as it used to be. I had not considered that it was not working. I need to try comparing ASW and forced to half refresh.
