Not sure what problem the OP had, but the TM Warthog is a poor choice IMHO. It has poorer build quality than the Orion 2 but is more expensive, at least in Canada. The Orion 2 is a much better long term choice. I checked the site and it is clearly marked what items are in stock or out of stock. It may be related to the Chinese New Year, I got an email that they were closing down for a week or so.

Mirage F1 and F14A.

Yes, but depends on the hardware. I have the Orion 2 and some axis/buttons are dual use, I.e. you can use them as axis or buttons. You have to check through the APP.

Yet another carrier landing thread. Sorry. Onspeed. AP disconnect.

‘Reversed commands” is what it is called. The concept itself is easy enough to understand. -

Joch1955 replied to AngleOff66's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
To answer your AP question, pressing the AP disconnect switch will turn it off. Problem with AP is that it can sometimes be on with no indication and it will screw things up. On Case 1 recovery. It is hard in the F/A-18 since everything has to be done correctly and parameters are tight. To do it correctly, you have to learn the basics and practice them repeatedly until it becomes second nature. 1. Learn the correct procedure in the manuals and watch videos of how it works. 2. Learn how trim works correctly with the F/A-18 and the concept of reversed commands: 3. Practice airfield landings, both straight in approaches and the overhead break, until you can do them correctly consistently; 4. Only then should you try carrier landings; 5. One last tip, turn on the ILS. It will show you a cross which allows you to line up correctly on the Carrier. Good Luck! Nothing more satisfying than catching the 3 wire. -
3600 @ CL 16 is the best bang for the buck and what AMD recommends for best performance on a Zen 3 Ryzen. That is what I have for my 5800x3d setup. The CPU cannot make optimum use of RAM over 3733 for technical reasons and the performance improvement of Cas 14 over 16 is marginal and not worth the extra cost IMHO. more info here: Ryzen 5000 RAM Guide: Find The Best RAM For Your Zen 3 CPU | Tom's Hardware (tomshardware.com) AMD Ryzen RAM scaling - performance effect in games (guru3d.com)

@Tippis The fatal flaw in your logic is that you are equating consistency and realism. I understand your argument that you prefer spotting dots ON because you claim that spotting is more consistent for all players in MP, but consistency does not guarantee realism. You can have consistent views which are highly unrealistic as is the case here. Spotting dots ON are highly unrealistic since you have huge black icons which can be spotted at unrealistically long distances and at unrealistic viewing angles. It makes spotting way too easy and kills any realistic gameplay. As I posted above, with spotting dots ON, you can spot airplanes up to eight times (8x) farther than in real life.
-
well no, my opinion is correct, since it is actually based on facts. You want to believe spotting dots ON are not an ICON so you can pretend you are playing without ICONS but you are just deluding yourself. You just have to try any SP missions, for example the F/A-18 mission where you go up against 6 x SU25 drones on the Caucasus map. The SU25 are at different altitudes, higher, co-altitude and lower. With the spotting dots ON, all SU25s are easy to spot, whether higher, at co-altitude or against the ground. They have a huge black spot over them which makes them impossible to spot. It is completely un-realistic and arcadish. I have never seen any other "sim" with such an un-realisitc system. Real fighter pilots would wish it was that easy. With spotting dots OFF, planes at co-altitude or higher are still fairly easy to spot, but the dots are smaller, appear later and are easier to miss. Planes below you are much harder/impossible to spot since they are hidden by the ground. All in all, it is a much more realistic experience. But no one has to take my word for it, they can try the game for themselves and form their own opinion. They will then see how "arcadish" spotting dots ON are. Just because you want to believe spotting dots ON is realistic does not make it so.
-
I am not sure what you are actually trying to prove. My point is simple as I keep repeating, spotting dots ON are just ICONS IMHO. They allow players to spot planes too easily at too long a range. If you want to use them that is fine and you should not be embarrassed about using ICONS if that is your preferred play style. Spotting dots ON are not in any way realistic. They are actually worse than regular icons which have a hard stop at 10 nm. Spotting dots OFF have there own issue, but is better than the alternative until/if the Devs actually produce a more realistic spotting system. so yes, spotting dots ON = ICONS, easy gameplay, easy spotting. p.s. - we can keep this going for a long time, but I am not sure what you think you will achieve.

The spotting dots on are just another type of ICONS. It is actually quite easy to determine empirically the arcade level built in to the spotting dots on ICON mechanism. MIG-21 fighters, because of their small size, can only be spotted when they are 2.5 miles away when viewed head on and 6 miles away when viewed from the side: Target size determines the detection lobe size by increasing or decreasing the visual image size and, hence, the detection range. A head-on aircraft is much harder to see than one with a side or belly view because it is smaller. A MIG-21 has a head-on projected area of about 40 squarefeet and an estimated visual detection range of 2.5 nautical miles. In a sideview, the projected area increases to about 300 square feet, with an estimated detection range of 6 nautical miles. This increase in the visual image size enables detection to occur at a greater range. https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/russia/mig-21-combat.htm This is also consistent with reports from Vietnam where the consensus among U.S. pilots was that MIG fighters were hard to spot at ranges over 3 miles. In game, if you try missions against MIG-21s or MIG-21 sized ACs, you will initially spot them at ranges of 15-20 nm+ and at 10 nm head on, they are represented as huge black dots on the horizon which are impossible to miss. So with the spotting dots ON ICONS, you are spotting the ACs at a range of 20 nm instead of 2.5 nm in real life, which means you are spotting the ACs eight times (8x) farther in the game than in real life. (note1: this is an estimate, someone would have to run tests to determine the exact arcade level of spotting dots ON). (note2: spotting dots OFF is also overly optimistic, but not as bad). so to summarize again: -spotting dots ON = ICONS, easy spotting, easy gameplay, spotting ACs in game at 8x greater distance than in real life. -spotting dots OFF = no ICON, more realistic spotting option, more realistic gameplay. As I suggested previously, the Devs should move the spotting dots ON option to the ICONS setting where it belongs and concentrate on fine tuning the spotting dots OFF mechanism for players looking for a realistic gameplay experience.

The new spotting dots ON mechanism is just another form of ICONS to make gameplay easier for players. It is much less realistic than the spotting dots OFF mechanism and is the gameplay equivalent of using ICONS. I used to play 2.8 with the DOT NEUTRAL icons on. It was a fine compromise for me since the ICON is a small black dot and it only appears within 10 nm so it makes easier to spot ACs but does not ID them. At first, I was happy to use spotting dots ON since I could turn off ICONS, but I quickly realized spotting dots ON is just another type of ICON. You have huge black dots that are larger than the DOT NEUTRAL icon and appear at a longer range. A so called "realistic" spotting option that is easier to use than actually using ICONS is obviously just another form of ICONS. Worse, the new spotting dots ON ICONS ruin having a realistic gameplay experience. The reason why modern jets are equipped with multiple sensors is because fighter ACs are difficult to spot. You use the sensors to guide you to the enemy AC until you are close enough to spot it. That goes out the window when you are using the spotting dots ON ICONS, no need to use any sensors at all, just look for the huge black dot ICONS which are visible 20 nm+ away. So to summarize: -spotting dots ON = ICONS, easy spotting, easy gameplay. -spotting dots OFF = no ICON, more realistic spotting option, more realistic gameplay. As I suggested previously, the Devs should move the spotting dots ON option to the ICONS setting where it belongs and concentrate on fine tuning the spotting dots OFF mechanism for players looking for a realistic gameplay experience.

well players can use what they want, DCS is just a game after all, but the new spotting dots are not in any way realistic and is a step back from the previous behaviour. Not saying spotting dots off is perfect, I have never seen a spotting mechanism which was perfect in any sim, but certainly more "realistic" than sporting dots ON which is just another form of ICON IMHO.
-
Well after going back and forth on this, I would have to say the new spotting dots ON mechanism is a joke, especially once you get used to spotting dots OFF. You have huge dots you can spot at long distances which are bigger than the previous minimal icons. You no longer need to use your sensors, radar, EW, SA page, just spot the "icon" and point your plane towards it. Spotting dots OFF is much more realistic IMHO, you can actually spot ACs at 10-15 nm if you pay attention, but it puts much more of a premium on using your sensors to spot other ACs. Seems to me spotting dots ON is just another form of ICONS which were created by the Devs for players who actually want to use ICONS since they cannot handle realistic spotting restrictions, but want to pretend they are not using ICONS. I would just remove the spotting dots ON/OFF toggle, leave spotting dots OFF as the default setting and move spotting dots ON to the ICON setting where it belongs.

just a question but are you sure it is correctly installed? On my setup, it physically stops at the detent and I have to apply some extra force to get over the hump. It makes very easy to "feel" where Mil power is. Admittedly it requires a light touch and with a lot of brute force, you can sail right over it.
-
I am sure some would like to see a top of the line SU35S or MIG31BM armed with R37 missiles like those being currently used somewhere, but ED can't build those without running into guaranteed legal issues, so better a realistically modelled MIG29A than nothing. I am happy to see the 80s/90s plane set is coming along well: F14A, M2000c, Mirage F1, F4, MIG21, MIG23 and now MIG29. A lot of opportunities for interesting Cold War missions/campaigns.

personally, I am just glad we are finally getting a full fidelity Mig-29. Insta buy for me. time to dust off the FC3 version and brush up on my flying...

Hi, no that is not WAD. I use trim regularly, you just need a bit of roll trim (1-2 light presses in my case) to level out from an unbalanced load. Very easy to do. I don't check the FCS myself when I trim, just go by feel. You should check your key bindings/game instal to make sure everything is properly setup.

I have not had any issues or noticed anything unusual with the F18 compared to other DCS planes. Easiest way to check when the AB comes ON/OFF is with external view. On my throttle (Orion 2), that corresponds to 80% of travel. I have mine setup so I hit 100% MIL power when it gets to the AB detent. Works flawlessly. All the tools are there, you just have to take the time to set it up properly.

For us G2 owners, I think the only question we have about WMR is how long can we keep using our headsets? I may be oversimplifying this, but as I understand it, the role of WMR is to act as the "operating software" of the HMD. It keeps track of your head position and passes that info to DCS so the game shows you the correct display. So there is no real need to further "update" WMR and in theory, it should keep running as is with no problem for many years unless something changes in Windows. Rumor has it that Windows 12 will come out late 2024, so that is probably the "newer version" MS is referring to, so as long as you delay updates to windows10, 11 or whatever until you have confirmation it won't break WMR, you should be good to go.
-
I am sticking with my G2 for now. it's a bit too early to panic until we have more clarity. "Officially", MS has said WMR will be supported until end of 2026.

Hi, 1. first step is to calibrate each throttle individually in the Sim Pro software. If you have the finger lifts installed, it make it easier to setup idle, MIL power and full AB; 2. to calibrate AB properly in DCS, look at the thread which is stickied at the top of the forum. I have mine setup so pushing all the way to the detent will put the plane at 100% MIL power; 3. using the lock is a personal choice, I did at first, but with use, I found it easier to leave it unlocked for dual engine planes and move the throttles in unison. It makes it easier to make adjustment, only use one throttle if, say, taxiing on the ground, make small power adjustment, etc. I don't even look at the power settings now when "flying", I just go be feel.

need track replay Ground effect - Super carrier
Joch1955 replied to flybull's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
The burble effect is most noticeable if you come in too low and too slow, you can feel it pulling you down as you cross the ramp and the LOS will usually be screaming "POWER!, POWER!" at that point.. If you come in correctly, good AOA/glideslope/FPM on the correct spot, you will hardly feel it. However, even then there seems to be "something" that will slightly throw off the AOA 1-2 seconds before touchdown and require some small adjustment. -
yes, its boring, but in a good way, like a good friend that you can always depend on. Been playing the F18 a lot lately, great for carrier ops, AG missions, AA missions, love the flexibly of setting up the screens how you want. Is it sexy, do I love flying it. No, its more like a good truck you use for work. You want sexy, fly the M2000c or the Mirage F1. Love flying the M2000c, it's my fav ride for quick AA missions. No one does sexy like "les Français". ...but if I had to go to war and my life depended on it, it would be in the F18.

So I play mostly against the AI, VR G2, PD=1, resolution 100%. I have tried the option both On and Off. Personally, I like Off better. You can still spot ACs 10+ miles away, but the spot is smaller. and looks better The spot with On is too big IMHO. Personally have no problem with options, players can choose what they want. This is a game after all.
