Just re-installed the Quest link software and now it's working again. Edit: It's working, but now I can't get ANY AUDIO to the quest . . . Edit 2: ONCE AGAIN, STUCK ON THE LOGO!

I had things working for a few days but now I again am getting stuck at the Meta logo when connecting via quest link. What an unbelievably frustrating piece of software. Unacceptably bad.

5090 vs 4090 in VR - what's the performance improvement?
Jimmy8x replied to slughead's topic in Virtual Reality
You continue to lie about this. You do not have a 5090. You spend time posting completely fabricated "tests". Why do you do this? It is bizarre. -
the VR zoom binds could really use some attention and could be improved. I would like to be able to zoom in a much smaller amount than the 'toggle vr zoom' bind, let alone the crazy spyglass zoom.

Personally could not bring myself to consider the Meganex for a few reasons, aside from the price. It's their first real consumer hmd and has no refund/return policy. Overlap in the Beyond 2, according to the WIMFOV results I've been looking at, is average among modern HMDs. Bigger than the Quest 3's and much bigger than the Aero, which has really poor overlap. I often feel like my Aero is 2.5D and it's just a big TV hanging off the front of my head.

another review I ordered a 2e yesterday, can't wait!

I think about this almost every time I fly. The moon is too small.

I'm going to encourage Tensorial_Architect to post some proof that all of these 'tests' are not fabricated. Others are reporting 5090 does not work at all with Pimax and Varjo headsets. So I'm not going to accept this as anything other than attention seeking forum trolling unless provided some demonstration that you are actually using a 5090 with these devices.

is there a visible difference between the two in quality for you in the Aero? or indistinguishable?

I'm on 5800X3D 4090 Aero at the moment, really glad to see your strong results from the upgrade. these bar graph results are from a 'stress test' scenario yeah? do you get 90 FPS most of the time in typical multiplayer servers?

I am on a brand new fresh install of Windows 11, with no mbucchia tools. I am using Varjo's registry edits to force DFR. https://varjo.com/vr-lab/make-the-best-out-of-your-varjo-experience-update-on-varjo-quad-view-eye-tracked-foveation-and-varjo-base-settings/ It is working well, with the new Quad Views option enabled, and the 'Track the eyes position' option DISabled. When 'Track the eyes position' is enabled, eye tracking quality is significantly worse.

I'm happy with my Aero. I went from G2 to Pico4 then to Aero. Though honestly the Pico has some features that I really miss, such as passthrough and much larger lenses / vertical FOV. But the clarity in the Aero is just unreal. Genuinely about as clear as a 27" 1440p monitor.
-
did he at least have it running with dynamic foveated rendering?
-
All you need is one base station, but if you only have one, tracking can get wonky if you're in a dogfight situation / looking away from the base Before you go and buy expensive new ones though, check craigslist and facebook marketplace for HTC Vives. There are a bunch of people around me selling entire Vive setups, including the headset, controllers, and 2 base stations, for $100-150 total.
-
a "fair" comparison like this would be missing the point. eye tracking lets you get boosted clarity and increased framerate at the same time
-
You're the second person I've seen say same thing about Quest Pro v. Aero. I almost bought a used Quest Pro right before the Aero went on sale, you can get those things for $600 used. Big lenses really do amazing things even without pristine resolution. I've also seen someone say they've used both and the Q Pro is garbage. Lol. VR is such a highly subjective thing, different people value different things from their experience I guess.

The weight of the Crystal and honestly Pimax's reputation as a company are keeping me away from it. Comfort is the other area where I am already struggling with full size ~800g headsets. I'm sure it's incredible though, I'd love to try one.
-
No, I understand. I had exactly the same concerns with the vertical FOV coming from a G2. All I can say is I was prepared to sacrifice it for the increase in clarity and the ability to use my eyes again rather than having to move my head. And ultimately I don't even notice it now. Thing is, I had a G2 and went Pico for better fov and better lenses. The lenses in the Pico are incredible, they are enormous and clear from edge to edge. However I was definitely being overly critical on the Aero at first. I recall the first few times I used the Pico I was horrified by the compression but then I came to appreciate its strengths. Same thing happened, I was focusing on the Aero's weaknesses instead of enjoying its strengths. The clarity is truly insane and at 90 FPS to boot. I was flying along in the F-16 today and realized as I was gazing out to my rear that I could read the serial number printed on the side of my AIM-120. I burst out laughing and said to myself "ok. this is definitely better." Still crave more FOV in 2024, but the Aero is nice.
-
Got my new Aero set up today, the clarity is unbelievable but the vertical FOV is dreadful, to the point of making me consider a return/refund. Some of you will think I'm trolling or being paid by ByteDance but in many ways I prefer my Pico4. Huge lenses, way better binocular overlap, wireless (blessing and a curse, compression means the image will always be messy), instant access to passthrough camera to take care of random things in the real world... it is not the slam dunk clear cut upgrade I was hoping for, despite the massive increase in resolution and clarity. I will probably keep the Aero but at this point I'm undecided. Either way I'll be upgrading again in 2024
