SAITEK X65F NEW CONTROLSYSTEM
kaiserb_uk replied to huteng's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Flim - did it take much getting used to the FSSB? How do you know when you're applying full pressure (so you don't stop early, or worse damage the stick?) -
Using Wickedpenguin's excellent lightning fast startup checklist as a guide I've created a G15 macro to automate the process - cold and dark to airborne in 1:40! Download it here: http://www.filefront.com/14599835/DCS%20BlackShark.lgp (I exported the whole .lgp file - you can either import it into a profile or use NP++ to cut and paste the macro code within the file) Edit - fixed version, link updated

Thanks WP! Am I right in thinking there's no need for the SA-TLF switch? -

It isn't force feedback - you're quite right in saying it can't be both. -

That's mental (and metal)! I think I'm probably very hard to please, but I can't help thinking that the ideal system is a cross between the Saitek and Logitech. Metal, with the stick layout of the Saitek, force feedback and pedals and possibly the trim axes of the Logitech. I guess I won't be retiring my (heavily modded) Cougar at all then...which isn't really a bad thing. -
Nice choice of Crystal Method - but that track has an overly long intro and didn't even get started by the time the action was finished! Nice film though.

So pressing a key is "Up=False"? That's nice and logical then :D Good luck! -

What format are the profiles in? Would it be possible to copy and paste the key assignments from say, a Cougar profile? In which case search for Viper's Cougar profile and open the .tmm file with something like Notepad++ and extract what you need. Obviously the format of keys might be different, there will be a certain amount of editing required, but I used this method to make a (Cougar) macro file for Rise Of Flight from the raw .ini files. -
A Stick and Rudder Man's Guide to DCS: Black Shark

No such thing as a 'humble' opinion... And woah there big boy, no-one's having a go at you, we've just expressed our opinion on the article. -

I take your point, but in his dismissing of trim for instance, at no point did he mention that you can press RCTL+Enter and get a nice little box which shows the position of your controls - a really good tip for beginners IMO (I still use it as a matter of course!). And telling newbies that the rudder controls ROLL is just plain confusing. I can't knock the effort and sentiment of the article, and I've found many of Dart's articles on IL2 really helpful and informative, but this one missed the mark if you ask me. -

Same here! Thank god, I thought I was turning into a curmudgeon :D -
Funnily enough, the RL pilot in our little cabal was able to, on his own and without RTFM, fire up the APU and engines and get airborne (and lose a rotor) in a short while. 'Real life pilots' my arse, they don't sound old enough to drive let alone fly.

It's just me that thinks it's full of errors and bad advice then? -
The sensor isn't odd (the MS FFB2 has the same thing), but what it does when you release it is (centering). The FFB2 simply disables the motors, effectively leaving the stick unsupported. Whether it's then so loose that it can move under its own weight might be down to individual sticks (my example still has enough 'stiction' that it will stay where you put it). I would imagine that the centering behaviour should be alterable in the software.

Targeting / Finding targets issues

Turning on 'Radio Assist' in the realism options makes Betty call out missile warnings which I find helps a lot but without destroying the effect like labels. -

If you think about it, no. The plane is going forwards at lots of miles an hour, so the jet exhaust is going that many miles an hour slower than if it were stood on the ground. It would ruffle your hair though. Am I right in thinking it's a Mirage F1?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perpetual_motion What a surprise - you too can build your own and the kit only costs a very reasonable $47! Who'd have thunk? Priceless! Curse the CIA, trying to keep us in the dark ages. -

Should I install Win7 64bit or 32bit?
kaiserb_uk replied to fatchance's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I just installed Win 7 64-bit and have had no problems getting drivers, getting 32 bit apps to run....it's superb.
