How do you get ASW working with the new Steam Beta for WMR?
eaglecash867 replied to joebloggs's topic in Virtual Reality
The cockpit displays resolution setting affects VR performance depending on the aircraft you fly. It has a pretty dramatic effect on performance with the A-10C, if you have the TGP image on one tube and the MAV image on the other. Haven't noticed any show-stopping difference in clarity of the image on the screens, but it does have a pretty serious impact on the quality of the image in your mirrors when you set it to 256. That's fine with me though, I don't spend much time looking at the mirrors. -
How do you get ASW working with the new Steam Beta for WMR?

Yup. Ghosting occurs when you have things turned up too high. Start with supersampling and/or DCS PD set to 100% and 1.0, MSAA off, shadows off, and cockpit displays set at 256 (those are the 4 main things that have an impact on VR performance). You should see minimal or no ghosting at that point. From there, just gradually turn things up until you get a result that's to your liking. I run with 100% SS, DCS PD at 1.0, MSAA at 4X, shadows off, and cockpit displays at 256 and I'm pretty happy with the performance and visuals in my Reverb. YMMV. -
Higher native resolution allows you to use less supersampling. Supersampling is the major performance killer, not the resolution itself so much. As you can see with other Reverb users, they are even able to run a fairly significant amount of supersampling and still get satisfactory results. I prefer to use lower supersampling and more MSAA. It all depends on what looks best to you.

Not sure about refunds, but I can tell you that they will run an initial authorization on your card to make sure its good. After a few days, that authorization drops off. Your credit card doesn't get officially charged until they ship you the HMD. I would think that you could cancel your order with no penalty if you change your mind about ordering one.

I just give the cable just enough slack to allow free movement, and then run it under my left leg and up my back. :D

VR headset vs Track IR - Which do you prefer?
eaglecash867 replied to razorseal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
A dome type monitor is still only going to be showing 2 dimensions though, which defeats the whole purpose of VR. -
Concur with Bobik. Probably caused by ASW/Reprojection depending on your HMD. It starts to come up, along with ghosting of passing objects when you have other settings turned up just a little too high. What kind of VR HMD do you have?

If you pause the sim while you're in the cockpit, one of the graphics settings you can adjust is Gamma. You'll see your Gamma adjustments instantaneously so you can set it exactly where it looks good to you.

How does a trackball help in Half Life: Alyx?

Same. Its just too much of a pain in the rear to keep trying to find your grip on a hand controller that's dangling from your wrist most of the time while you're flying. Much easier to find and use the mouse. The new controller design will definitely be a welcome change on the G2 for playing Alyx though. The present-day WMR controllers are so awful that I've been regularly calling my Rift CV1 back from retirement, even though the visual quality is so much worse than the Reverb. Doesn't do much good to be able to see the world better if your attempts to interact with that world are as clunky as they are with the current controllers.

It all depends on what you want in your simulation. I'm not a competitive flyer and don't fly in multi-player, so I tried VR with the Rift CV1 when it first came out, and my TIR has been gathering dust ever since. I really liked the feeling of being in the plane, the 1:1 head/body movement, the depth perception, all those things. The resolution left a lot to be desired, but I was able to compensate for that quite a bit just by turning the DCS PD up to about 2.0. I thought I had something really good going there, and then I got the Reverb Pro, and I realized just how much better it could get. I was able to not only see, but identify, other aircraft that I didn't even know were there in the CV1. I also no longer needed to use the "VR zoom" feature to read some of the smaller things in the cockpit. The main advantage of VR that I noticed was that, due to the depth perception and 1:1 head/body movement, I was able to evade incoming AAA and SAMs MUCH easier because of the fact that I now instinctively knew exactly which way to point the jet. Most of the time, I'm defeating missile shots with maneuvers alone and rarely use chaff or flares. Count me in as one of those who went VR and never went back. :D -
Heh. I wasn't really intending to correct anybody, just trying to boil things down, because it looked to me like you guys were arguing the same point. Thanks for the well wishes. Its in remission finally, so, GOOD DAYS AHEAD! :D

5G mobile, "5G" stands for Fifth Generation and has several frequency bands. 5G with a 802.11 WiFi router stands for the 5GHz frequency band. Two completely different things. I agree with Taz that the term is being used as a marketing gimmick which may be meant to mislead people into thinking they're getting something they're not. With everything I've been through in the last 11 months dealing with cancer that was most-likely caused by high-power, high-frequency electromagnetic radiation that I've been exposed to in my career field, the last thing I'm going to do is make a conscious decision to put a transceiver operating in those high frequency ranges on my head when I have the choice of having an HMD with a cable instead. This one is a no-go from the get-go for me.:no_sad:

HP reverb and RTX 2070 super. Can it work?
eaglecash867 replied to richtosh's topic in Virtual Reality
Its been my experience that you actually get better performance with the Reverb, due to the fact that you don't need as much supersampling (or, alternatively, DCS PD) to make it look good. I went from a Rift CV1 to a Reverb and was surprised to see that I actually got better performance because I no longer needed my DCS PD set at 2.0. I was able to lower it to 1.0, which got me better performance. Its the supersampling that is the real performance killer. -
I have an old, big, heavy Logitech wireless mouse that takes care of that problem. Really hard to inadvertently flip it out of the way when I go to put my hand on it again. I like the cursor moving with your head too, it makes it so you don't have to move the mouse very far to click a button, so its always really close to the same position. For the OP, the only time I found using a mouse and flying the plane at the same time difficult was when trying to retract the landing gear shortly after takeoff by clicking on the handle. I just assigned the paddle switch on the bottom of my Warthog stick to extending/retracting the gear.
-
I use the mouse to click on buttons and switches in the cockpit too. Its a little clunky at first, but you get used to it. Much easier than trying to use VR controllers because the mouse is always sitting right there on a flat surface. :)

Yup, and it would be nice if the entire cable assembly on a VR headset was as easy to replace as the cable/mic assembly on the Aviation X. To answer your earlier question about the pre-order, I was also taken to the Connection web-site. Had to shut it down and then manually find the HP pre-order button with a Google search just to make sure the link in this thread hadn't been hijacked. Still ended up at that Connection web-site, so it looks like its legitimate. Hopefully this is a move by HP to try to improve their handling of logistics, which was a complete fuster-cluck last time.

There's another IFF antenna on the bottom rear of the aircraft too, which helps eliminate issues with airframe shadowing.

Change default VR positions for each plane
eaglecash867 replied to Quekel's topic in Virtual Reality
That's what hitting Num 5 does with mine. It recenters, based on the position I saved for that aircraft. I saved all of those positions for each aircraft back with 2.5.3 though, so maybe something got broken with subsequent updates that no longer saves the position properly. -
If you click on the specifications tab on the pre-order page, it shows that the standard warranty is 1 year parts and labor.

Change default VR positions for each plane
eaglecash867 replied to Quekel's topic in Virtual Reality
You have to do it in VR, and its important to be seated in your normal position and not move while doing it. I've been able to set a unique default position for each aircraft that needed it. -
Change default VR positions for each plane

The commands in this post of mine from the past are what have worked for me. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3830595&postcount=2 -
I'll just keep doing this by checking/editing the config file if the setting isn't retained after changing it in the SteamVR user interface. Much simpler solution, because I always know where the config file is. :D
-
Does that stay set after an update? I've dabbled in it a little bit, but with every update (or so it seems) they rearrange the user interface and you have to go through a whole new routine to get to those settings. The contents of the config file may get changed when an update happens, but at least it can always be found in the same location. If the settings in the user interface get retained, it would be worth trying.
