  1. Pretty sweet setup you've got there... (but what is that Warthog doing on the desk???). ;)
  2. Aside from DCS: A-10, I love the fact that they are programmable in TARGET as well (alongside your other TM devices such as the Warthog or Cougar).
  3. No doubt!!! Although most people can probably get what they want (and more) through the GUI, if anyone dives into writing scripts there are hardly any limits.
  4. +1, that was funny. I think everyone who feels high end controllers are too pricey has a valid concern, but I'd second everyone who's said that once they made the investment it paid off over time. While the Cougar may have had its flaws OOTB (out of the box), I have never regretted the years (6+ and counting) I've gotten out of it. When you add it all up, I've spent a lot of money on mods and upgrades, but probably not a whole not more than I would have spent buying new joysticks every other year. I still have the same unit I originally bought and never wanted anything else...... ...until now (of course). ;)
  5. Always going to be some pros and cons with any stick, but I think the HW will stand the test of time better than most. As far as the button placements etc., they're obviously modelled after the real stick, but that doesn't mean they can't do other things, in fact, a lot more than the real A-10 could do (if you learn to program your stick well). In case the original poster is still reading; does it make a difference (having a pricey and good HOTAS)? - I'd say hell yes!!! It won't make you a better pilot per se (that still takes practice, knowledge and technique), but you'll never blame it on your setup again. ;)
  6. Anyone know what the arm length (from the base of the handle to the mounting) is on the actual Warthog stick? I wouldn't want to make it too long as it affects the throw/deflection and subsequently the reaction time of your control surfaces.
  7. 111210 or 121110... reminds me of similar sounding patches for Flaming CLiffs, 1.12 for 1 and 1.2.1 for 2. Counfusing? Maybe... unless you pay attention!:pilotfly:
  8. What happens in Holland... stays in Holland?!
  9. AMEN! That's what I've been saying all along.
  10. My throttle reminds me of this every time I look at it! :D
  11. Loved it when I first got it - it was the coolest thing since sliced bread! After soldering in a few too many replacement pots though, decided to mod it with Hall sensors. Grew with it and upgraded it (them) over the years, adding additional mods/casings such as speedbrake, dogfight switch casings, NXT... later FSSB R1 and R2. Still love the modded ones to this day! It's not a bad investment.
  12. I've been told I'm smooth to follow before, but I also don't use up a lot of airspace while maneuvering... in other words, my style of flying may be more aggressive (meaning that my rate of inputs are higher, the onsets quicker, and the transitions more frequent between making input changes while still flying smooth of course). I hardly spend any time in unloaded flight during a demo. That being said, I still can't feel styckuness on my unit when moving the stick around. :P
  13. Formation Leader or just precise flying... I have no problems! I do have a hunch there could be a select number of units with more stickiness than others out there, but I'm not feeling any issues with mine and I'm coming from using FSSB/NXT modded Cougars for the past 5 years, so I'm used to having absolute precision at my fingertips. On top of that I've flown a fair amount of lead (but I'll let others comment whether I'm smooth enough or not ;))... No problems here! Frankly, but not taking into account if there are units with stickiness problems, I think this is blown out of proportion.
  14. Btw, that's stickiness (not stickyness) and stiction (not sticktion) everyone. Don't tell me I'm not a stickler! :megalol:
  15. The R1 has been just as good in my experience. In fact, I know just as many R2's that have failed as R1's... so, save your $$. My 2c...
  16. There was a thread a week or two ago called "HW vs. X65", or something close to that......
  17. I just don't have the issues you're talking about in my stick, or if they're there not pronounced enough for it to bother me (and I'm usually one picky bastard when it comes to my flying and equip). :joystick: Time will tell and I'll let you know if anything changes, but from someone who's used to doing plenty of precision flying (and leading), I have to disagree. I like it more than my expensively nodded Cougars so far.
  18. Do you have two HWs, or did you have something replaced (not the entire unit)? Just curious...
  19. Over time you'll also see newer batches of units popping up, and in some cases you'll be able to relate fixes/updates to various serial batches. It's just for fun mainly to see where, who and what # everyone has...
  20. 141 posts so far... head on over to www.warthogworld.com and register your serial # in the database! (Much easier to read list, and it sorts it in order). ;)
  21. Just needs that ACES II. ;)
  22. The higher numbers are newer batches. I'm not sure what serial tops it out, but generally anything in the mid-to-high thirties is a later build. If I recall correctly, somewhere between the upper 20's and into the 30's there were some minor fixes made (alignment of switches, type of paint, type of screws holding the handle in place - allen vs. phillips head etc.). I'm not sure what, if anything, was done to the gimbals or pots though... Like Deadman already said, it's your throttle detents. You can open up your throttle and readjust the detents to where you want them. (I used to have mine set to 95%, with the 2nd "click" moving it into AB). The lower detent I just moved as far down as possible, so it would only have a single "click" for fuel cutoff (throttle off position).
  23. I think it's FANBOI, fanboi! ;)
