  1. Oh, it's still mechanical... I busted the springs on my NXT twice over the years (while I still had it). Back on topic: Nothing is perfect (the actual airplane included), but we come close. Bumps, stickiness, stiction... whatever you want to call it exists in actual yokes/controls as well... just saying. :music_whistling:
  2. Here's the other post I was searching for: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=961351&postcount=331
  3. Here ya go: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=61406 There's also another post somewhere in the "HOTAS Warthog Priced" thread, but since I'm on my mobile I can't find it ATM.
  4. At one point today every thread on the front page was about the HW! :P LOL I'd encourage everyone to start using http://www.warthogworld.com as well and help us build its knowledge base up by registering and posting reviews, concerns, tips or asking for help - anything! You can also register your HW serial # in a list under your user profile (instead of having it in a thread/sticky). ;)

  5. Deadman, The covers came out looking great. Glad I could help with some measurements and pix before you had your unit. Can't wait to get my own set of the finished product now! :)
  6. The Elites are not sold anymore, and if fact haven't been for many years. You can often find a used pair on eBay. They use a 15-pin gameport, but you can use them with a gameport-USB adapter. Also, if you own a Cougar they are plugged into the base of the unit and then the Cougar's USB is plugged into the computer. (Either solution works with the Warthog). Cubby makes Hall Sensor mods for the Elites and RCS, here.
  7. LOL  I seriously think I'd be easier to physically break something on yoke in my real airplane than on this beast.
  8. Was that in general or for me? FWIW, I've had access to the HW for a while now... (prior to its launch - betas). My previous post was wondering about how the Obutto [cockpit] would work with the HW... Maybe I'm just confused here. I agree with your comments that the HW is just too cool and even if I still love my modded Cougar(s)... yet somehow that's not enough anymore. :megalol:
  9. Sign up and re-register your serial # here: www.warthogworld.com Over time, WHW will become a centralized place for HW (HOTAS Warthog) resources and forums similar to Cougar World.
  10. I don't have the actual specs, but I'm sure I know someone that can find them if needed. I'm simply pointing the handle just far enough left to where it aligns with my forearm while it's resting on my thigh. It's about comfort and ergonomics to me... Let us know how the Obutto does with the HOTAS Warthog! I'm eyeing one myself - but I'm curious/concerned about the mounting brackets. Are they steady enough? (...and I mean they need to be ROCK SOLID, like you could smash your toes into one getting out of the pit and your toe would break before the stick base moves)? Also, how customizable is the center mount position (lateral, up/down, fore/aft etc. - I want my stick comfortable between my legs with thigh support, not more than 6-7 inches in front of my Randy Johnson, which means the mount needs to be able to be positioned very close to the front of the seat and lowered). Looking forward to some info when you get your Obutto, and if you want the true A-10C angle I'll try to find out for you...
  11. Register your Warthogs (again) at WHW! The serial database automatically sorts them in order!
  12. Original Q... One word: YES! I've had an NXT Cougar, two FSSBs and several stock Kitties... and they are all either sold or collecting dust nowadays. The Warthog is just an awesome HOTAS! I loved the NXT, but it was too loose IMHO. I still love my FSSB R2, but it doesn't match having your hands on the HW. Especially when you mount the HW as a center stick (properly angled) and use your thigh as forearm support. I do agree with the comments about the NXT and can appreciate the argument, but I beg to differ on the HW not being as precise near the "notch". In said mounting position the HW is incredibly precise and perfect for the steady type of formation flying we practice. The most important thing for precise flying is seating position and ergonomics. The biggest mistake anyone can make is putting your joystick and throttle on your desk and in front of you (especially above your elbow) - regardless what you fly with. Precision isn't inherent in which joystick you use per se, but its placement and your seating position can't be stressed enough. If that's good, then the joystick will improve your flying and the HW has awesome precision to boost your flying even further. P.S. People whom are inconsistent or bad landers IRL often don't pay attention to their seat position in relation to the controls as much between different planes. It's A & O to me, and if the seating position ain't spot on I wouldn't be as precise in my AC control.
  13. TARGET works with the Cougar too you know. Told ya so! ;) Oh, and 9 USB ports... What on earth are you hooking up?
  14. I was just about to say, I don't think the real ones have a latch. Personally, I enjoy "walking the throttles" too much to lock 'em and take the fun away! :pilotfly:
  15. Don't punch the buttons, press them! ;)
  16. Microsoft owes me about a dozen new OS installations! ;)
  17. Hey fliM, Affirm... Had a Skywest jumpseater back to PHX out of FAT that day. Were you on the EMB-120 or CRJ, and where are you today?
  18. Wasn't up to speed (no pun intended) on TRIM. Learn something new every day!
  19. I agree, however, I wouldn't use an SSD for anything but system files, OS etc. It won't hold up well (over time) if you read/write often to it. I just got a WD Velociraptor and it's blazing fast just as a normal SATA drive.
  20. Some good links here too: http://forum.virtualthunderbirds.com/viewtopic.php?t=3684
  21. Sinking $500+ into a new GPU... not me. I can get two 460 GTX's in SLI cheaper than one GTX 580, and I'd almost put money on the SLI setup benchmarking better than the single 580. The FTW edition of the 460 has comparable clockspeed with the 580... just not as many pipes.
