  1. Since the 1.2.0 update the reset zoom to default (RCtrl-KpEnt) doesn't work while in F11 view.
  2. Was the roll rate adjusted in version 1.2.0? Seems a bit slugish now compared to the previous version. Secondly, RCtrl-KpENT (zoom reset to default) does not work for me in external views (F11). I checked the key assignments and it's still showing it as such, but doesn't work in the sim. Anyone else experience this? EDIT: I guess it's aerodynamic forces acting on the controls preventing full deflection (at higher speeds). I can see how the stick inside the cockpit isn't moved as much flying faster even though I'm moving my joystick full scale. As far as the reset zoom key assignment, it works for me in F2 view, but not F11. Anyone else notice the same?
  3. Good follow-up! Steep turns from the L vs. R definitely feel/look different. After a while it does turn out pretty seamless though. I have a harder time not reaching for a knob or button that's usually on my left whenever I'm sitting in the other seat, only to find myself slamming my hand into a panel or something. The sight picture and muscle memory isn't really an issue when switching from flying with your right hand to flying with your left hand. Running checklists and instictively using the correct hand to reach for knobs is another story!
  4. It isn't as hard as it may seem! You usually start out in the left seat as a student pilot (unless you're learning in a tandem seat a/c), then many move on to fly as instructor from the right seat. Later you'll be right seat as a First Officer and eventually move back to left seat as Captain if you pursue an airline job. Which hand you fly with isn't really a big deal; you improvise, adapt and overcome. I remember thinking it would be awkward flying from the left seat again after years of instructing and flying as co-pilot when I went for my ATP checkride, but I immediately reverted back to prior training and didn't even think about it until after I had already finished the ride. I think it's actually way harder to get used to brushing your teeth with your left hand if you're right handed and vice versa than flying an a/c with the stick/throttle in your "opposite" hand. (However, I have mastered brushing my teeth with my weak hand as well). ;) EDIT: Something that actually takes a little more getting used to than any muscle memory or motorskills is the angle at which you look at the instruments when flying from the right seat in a Cessna for example. The distance between the needle(s) and the face of the altimeter/heading indicator creates a slight gap that when viewed from the angle where you're sitting at, you'd have to purposely fly ~20' too low/~5 deg left of course to be right on target altitude/heading (which you'd see if you were viewing the instrument head-on). Any general aviation flight instructor knows what I'm talking about.
  5. Good interview Wags! Answered a few questions I (still) had about DCSW and 3rd Party add-ons. Other than that, Nevada and FC3 can't come soon enough! :P
  6. Is there any way to undo this without uninstalling World+P51 after (accidentally) checking that box during the install of P-51. I'd like to have the most advanced flight model, thank you. No "EZ mode" for me. :pilotfly: What changed here? I really liked the way collisions were still possible, but without fires/explosions the way it was before (we had fun bumping wingtips -- on purpose -- while in formation). I'm not near my computer to try it myself right now, so I'm curious what's different with immortal now? Thanks for the update! Looking forward to flying when I get back home from flying.
  7. Nothing fancy, just added sepia effect to a random screenshot I took:
  8. I made a backup copy of my \Saved Games\DCS folder before uninstalling the old version. Then I simply copied back the \config folder within my backup after reinstalling 1.2.0. I know someone mentioned keys had changed, but so far it's worked for me and the mappings I had. Worth a shot instead of re-mapping everything from scratch.
  9. Cranked my graphics to the max in DCS, tree shadows, mirrors, everything as high as they'll go! (Running with nearly maxed out settings in the NVIDIA CPL for my card as well). 40+ FPS over the most densely populated areas and airports. Can't say for sure whether it's actually running better than before the update for me, but it's certainly smooth as glass now! Thank you ED! :)
  10. DCS does not take full advantage of multiple cores, so no not really. Unless you're doing rendering, encoding etc. an i5 is about equal to an i7 processor in terms of performance (only real difference is the lack of Hyper Threading on the i5s which doesn't really matter much for gaming anyway) - hence why the i5-2500K has been considered the best gaming CPU for a while now. That doesn't mean a i7-2600/2700K isn't better or on par, but you're paying for features games (and certainly not DCS) take advantage of. The Ivy Bridge lineup is roughly on par with the Sandy Bridge equivalent but uses less power with its 22nm die chip. Go for a high-end GPU and a Sandy or Ivy "K" -model i5 (or i7) CPU, and you should be more than fine for gaming and DCS!
  11. Agree with Cali; 670 best bang for the buck in the high-end GPU market at the moment!
  12. You missed out on meeting a living legend.:doh: Glad TFC/FL turned out great!
  13. Great pics Ells, Rock and everyone else! Just catching up on some threads, didn't realize this took place while I was gone.
  14. The only common thing about common sense is that it's not very common amongst common people.
  15. For CPU OCing I monitor RealTemp then run Prime95 and Intel BurnTest to check stability and temps until passing satisfactorily*. For GPU OCing I run Heaven DX11 Benchmark and 3DMark11 to make sure it passes without any crashes or artifacts. *I generally don't run any of these tests for very long aside from making sure there aren't any crashes, which may or may not take several hours before finding the highest possible stable overclock. I'm not one to let it burn for a dozen hours (only to find out it didn't crash or it did). Instead, once I have what seems to be the fastest yet most stable OC I take it to the test playing BF3 maxed out for hours or rendering HD videos for several hours while multitasking, browsing, watching video and throwing all kinds of heavy tasks at it that I'd be doing any given day anyway... If it then passes without any crashes for several days of "normal heavy ops", I'm good. I'd never rely on any Microsoft/Windows benchmark or test to verify an overclock!
  16. Everyone should be forced to post their tracks of their first taxi, takeoff and landing in this pony!:megalol:
  17. That was just the first trial run, far from a masterpiece. ;) Our second and much better tracks were trashed by the sim somehow, but I'm sure Ray and I will have another go again at some elaborate P-51 passes later this summer (such as the one when he lands with one wheel on my wing in mid-flight... that one is fun)! :P We'll be sure to add some in-cockpit footage...
  18. Hopefully you'll get a response via the tech support channels if you've submitted your problem. Don't give up on P-51 yet though, you'd be doing yourself a great disservice and missing out on one of the best prop planes modeled in any sim! It is still beta however...
  19. Ray and I were planning on redoing this pass (and add a few other ones), but we never seem to have enough time off together. This was the very first pass we attempted at this particular maneuver. We went back and recorded a much better sortie with several "money shots", but both his and my track had errors. I've been holding onto this clip for a few weeks hoping we'd get another go at it, but with vacations looming and what not, here's the "rough cut" for now:
  20. Will keep it in mind, but right now Ray and I have only 4 evenings that we're both off until August. No weekends either, so with time zones it's even trickier. Should let up towards end of summer though...
  21. Ray and I have been flying some maneuvers you probably wouldn't see in a real air show and it's challenging. Unfortunately neither his nor my track got saved w/o errors, and since we're both busy airline pilots it's tough to find time for retakes. None the less, it would be fun to hook up and fly a four-ship with you sometime when we're all around. Keep up the great work!
  22. Two quick bugs (?) I'm dealing with: 1). Whenever I host a mission, load and click on the aircraft to fly I never spawn the first time after loading the mission. It says I've "Lawndart joined BLUE P-51" or something to that, but I'm still seeing the map view. So, I click on another jet or the same one again and hit briefing/fly and spawn just fine. Now, the interesting part is it says "Lawndart BLUE P-51 crashed" and I can see the wreckage of my first join attempt in front of my spawn point falling out of the sky (this is an airborne start). This only happens the first time after I select a plane to fly while hosting a MP mission. It's as if I'm flying, yet stuck on the map screen and having to re-select a plane to fly... only to watch my old plane "blow up" in front of me when I'm finally able to spawn correctly. 2). Possibly related to my previous point; often my tracks don't playback at all / with significant deviations from what acually happened (lat/long, altitude different from what really took place etc.). This has never happened in SP when I'm able to spawn correctly, but in MP if I have to do what I described in my previous point it seems very likely my track will have errors (and sometimes not playback at all). Just wanted to bring this to ED's attention in case it isn't known. Did a quick search, but it yielded no results for this issue. Are there others having the same problem in MP missions? P.S. I've found a workaround for my first point; joining as a spectator while hosting first and then, once the mission is running going back and selecting a plane to fly. That usually (but not always) lets me spawn into a plane without getting hung up on the map view (and having to re-spawn, then seeing myself explode in the plane I never got to spawn into in the first place as described earlier...) EDIT: Posted in wrong forum. Meant to post in the bugs forum.
  23. Nothing wrong with wanting eye candy and maxed out frames! I didn't need to sell my GTX 460s (SLI) and get a GTX 670, but I'm glad I did! :D
