I recently purchased the new Kindle e-reader, and perusing the available titles, came across this gem. There is a "Further Reading" page that I thought I'd share -- I haven't yet read any of the listed resources, but having read all the other pages of the book - I trust it's a good list of references.

Damper and friction effects in force feedback for Black Shark
BBQ replied to average_pilot's topic in DCS Wishlist
I've been away from my beloved DCS World for awhile (far too long!) and have done a fresh install on a new Windows machine I built. However, when I launch simFFB.exe it hangs for 30 sec or so, and then finally my input devices show up. I'm wondering what I'm forgetting to do -- do we have to set a compatibility mode or anything? -
How to learn how To actually "fly" the KA50?

You might find my walk-through of the Vergeev Campaign interesting -- -
This is really disappointing. Are there not any entrepreneurs out there creating software protection for gaming in virtual machines? I personally believe that open-source operating systems will become the standard in the future, and I've made a decision to scrap Microsoft Windows, and am currently running Ubuntu. When I need to run any Adobe products (I'm a Creative Cloud subscriber), I spin up a Windows 7 VM using VMware. It's on its own physical disk (Corsair Neutron SSD), has its own 16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum RAM, and 4 of the 8 processors dedicated to it running @ 5Ghz. The VM has direct access to my Nvidia 580, and a dedicated soundcard as well. Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, etc. all run as smooth as a hot knife through butter. I was really hoping to be able to also run my beloved DCS World in this VM; however, it looks now like I'll have to go the Dual Boot route.

Sorry to all for bad download -- changed my google user and when I re-uploaded all my files, it changed permissions on that file. See original post for new link.

Cheers for the patience to hold off until everything was stable and good to go.

If there's a better place for this thread -- please let me know, or just move it. Having spent a few hours creating some benchmarks - thought I would share results with community - I hope it's helpful for anyone who has wondered what kind of effect the various settings of the nVidia control panel have on the simulation. See attached readme for explanation of numbers and test methodology. Included in attached RAR are various FRAPS benchmark files (first four minutes of test mission) - the readme.txt, and two screenshots: one showing my DCS Options screen settings, and another showing my nVidia control panel. Aside from settings mentioned in readme and in benchmark file names -- the rest of the settings remained the same (e.g., Vertical Sync OFF, etc.) From the readme.txt:

Very informative post -- I did want to mention that when comparing FPS - we have to be careful to make sure we are using the exact same level of zoom in the cockpit -- notice that in the initial post, under the part where there is a column of armor in the HUD - the screenshot with higher FPS is zoomed in a little farther than in the screenshot with less FPS. I'm not saying this is the reason for the extra FPS -- just a note to those who are doing their own benchmarking, to be careful of this issue - as in certain situations, zoom out can increase the load on the system since more objects have to be rendered (if there are more objects present when zooming out).

Bug description I've noticed this happening every once and awhile -- at a certain point in a mission, some enemy groups seem indestructible -- see video -- I even made myself invulnerable with unlimited weapons and still could not kill anything in the group at point blank range. I went thru all of my AP and HE rounds. Steps to reproduce / Conditions of occurence Fly mission/track -- it's from the Georgian Oil War PC Configuration see attached dxdiag Attachments dxdiag, logs, track

Danilop, In what way do you find the Black Sea region lacking in relation to the navigation aids and vor ILS etc? I have always thought that it was pretty solid, but I'm not from the area.

Bug description: Per mission briefing, target area was to be illuminated at 03:12 - but no illumination was observed. Mission is part of the Georgian Oil War campaign -- but not sure which mission. Steps to reproduce: Fly mission and observe target area at 03:12. PC Configuration: See attached dxdiag Attachments: Logs, track, dxdiag, debriefing attached

Disclaimer: I realize this isn't really a "bug" -- as it's possible this is the expected behavior -- in which case call this a "feature request". Bug description: Upon landing on FARP, and commanding flight to rejoin, #2 and #3 land, but #4 takes a lot more time to land -- by the time he does, #2 and #3 have exited the simulation. My goal was to allow the flight to rearm/refuel and then continue the mission. Steps to reproduce / Conditions of occurrence Fly the "Dusheti" CA mission -- takeoff - have flight rejoin, then land. PC Configuration N/A Attachments N/A

Haven't seen this one for awhile -- 2 is constantly transmitting "Two, Rejoin." Logs, track, and dxdiag attached.

It would be great to have one additional edge map - like say for example, ummm, DCS WWII: Europe? ;)

Apologies if this was already addressed -- but what are those smudges on the windows of the building?

As to my opinion: Smoke 'em if ya got 'em. :megalol:

I'll post a track in the morning guys

I've been playing one of the CA missions and have reached a point where all of my Vikhrs go dumb -- and am searching for enemy jamming equipment, as I've ensured I have fullfilled all of the firing parameters for my Vikhrs launches. Is there a list of vehicles/assets with jamming capabilities somewhere? (aside from encyclopedia)?

Hi Merlin, Are you guys using the OpenBeta? I'm having trouble finding a server with [DoW] in the description. What time is the server usually running? Thanks, BBQ PS: also PM'ing this to you.

thanks again will do.

thanks pman -- will do!

Although I've still some issues with xwind take-offs, I can usually takeoff and land OK -- my problem is, I'm not at all comfortable fighting in this cockpit and wouldn't know the first thing to do if I were engaged by a 109 (or anything else for that matter)! I was hoping to get some stick time today with someone that might take me up and cover some BFM, or even just engine management during a fight. Thanks in advance for any takers! BBQ PS: I'll keep an eye on this thread and then we can setup teamspeak and a server, etc.

I've just noticed this as well -- and the cause. When you close your canopy the mirror appears! When the canopy is open, the mirror disappears.

Well, that's it -- mission accomplished! Let's all hope for a Part 2 and the next 20 missions to come out so we can continue our story!
