  1. This one is very funny... Love the "scientist's" comments :D
  2. Yes, that's pretty much it. Only thing that will make that light eventually stop being visible is distortion due to air particles, or other bright objects (or light reflections) that overwhelm the smaller lights. The NAV lights have exact same issue as with sunglare, they are just textures that reduce in size as they get further away, and withing 2-3Km they just "fade"out into surrounding terrain textures.
  3. I will say my opinion once more: - Smart scaling is not the answer, with one objects increased in size and other not (rest of the world) the speed of increased size object is off (it looks slower that it is) - People playing on monitor do not use true FoV... for example... you sit in a seat certain distance from the monitor, and the angle measured that monitor FoV takes is smaller than what most people use in game (true FoV your eye sees might be around 30° but in game you use FoV of around 80-90°) This works alright for objects that are in game close to your virtual eye... but further away they are their relative size (compared to what your eye would see in real world) is reduced. If you want to test, set in game 30° FoV and see how far you can make out a plane. - last issue is lighting (in game technique used for this is specular I believe - correct me if I'm wrong). Close LOD's of aircraft have it done well (newer models at least) but LOD's further away lose this effect. I have shown to ED 2 images of some very large mirrors high up in mountain, and image has them reflecting sunlight. One image is from close up to the mirrors, second is of from far away. Both images show the reflected bright light spot same size in both instances, yet the mirrors are "smaller" from far out (object up close takes more of your eye FoV). This is the most important thing we need in game... which is missing.
  4. erm, posibly game doesn't like screen ratio less than 1, maybe that's your issue.
  5. How the **** can you play this, and for so long, with keyboard?! wow...
  6. That's some good info there (couldn't read it all) :)
  7. you can't get exact time/date
  8. ^^^ Exactly... no matter which way you chose there is some tradeoff
  9. Guys... relax... I also really hate to, what appears to be, endlessly waiting for things... but please try to understand also that the developer wants it released also, he does not get paid until they starts selling, and selling means releasing. Also, setting target is not the same as giving release date. Setting target is a goal they want to achieve, but this is not always achievable, hence their targets are not set, this is nothing unusual. Another things complicates 3rd party releases is they kind of depend on ED for some thing, one of them being, they will sell the MIG-21 module primarily on ED website (which I think is a good thing - everything is in one place - ED website is a one-stop-shop) So just cut them some slack, I am sure if you were in their shoes you would be feeling the heat you are directing towards them, and I am sure you wouldn't like it. I think if I was a developer, I would not be making any claims, setting no targets, and instead just announce when things are already final.
  10. I think drinking detergent has the same effect, so if one doesn't have cool-aid, it surely will be able to use some detergent :D
  11. People can't remember what they haven't lived through... none of the generations that lived through war know what it's like to be in one and have family members (or whole families) die in it. This is why there will always be wars... as sad as it is, it's true... peple are too easy to start a war, all it takes is few nut jobs (a**h***s) that expect some benefit/profit from it... with political "skill" to stir up the population... and off we go again...
  12. It can work with monitors connected to different video card, but I would make sure you connect main monitor (one showing DCS) to main video card, and second to second... use extended desktop (and set main monitor as left one) and disable full screen... you should be good to go. Actually you should probably also set your multimonitor lua file to match your custom setup.
  13. one of the first rules for multi-monitors: make your DCS monitor as primary and most top/left monitor in windows desktop setup
  14. that's a very nice camo on the Mustang, but I think you need to work on it little more and get the paint scheme pattern to align properly... it'll look better :)
  15. As with my point 2, if we did have smart scaling it would be no different to not having it, in terms of MP (PvP) flying... both sides are in same boat, with scaling they see easier (both sides) and without it they see harder (both sides again). What scaling does is it ruins the relative speed of scaled objects in non-scaled world... objects with increased size appear to be moving slower in unchanged size environment. I've played BMS and I've used smart scaling and to be honest although it lets you see the aircraft much further out (further then short range missiles range) and I don't like it, aircraft in fight feels to me like they are flying 100-200km/h... it just looks off.
  16. 1. The only time where visual problem is an issue is when you are playing against AI, as in MP the guy you are fighting against has exact same issue as you do... so it's always an equal fight (when it comes to spotting targets) 2. Lot of people also forget that pilots are picked from the best, and fighter pilots are picked from the best of those. 1/2 people in here are not very young (me included) and their eyesight are not as good as pilot's, so why is everyone expecting to see as good as people with best eyesight? 3. Real pilots also account many times that even they sometimes have hard times to pick aircraft they are already in fight with (watch some youtube training video's, sometimes the pilot will lose sight of the aircraft he's already in visual range... and look around to find him again... he doesn't just spot him in an instant) I still think that specular lighting on far LOD's is what's ruining things the most, and I am still very much against any kind of objects scaling as it ruins scale of things, including objects's speed (BMS has this exact issue because they have aircraft scaling, it just looks unnatural)
  17. Happy Birthday Yo-Yo... yo.... you....you're an awesome guy :)
  18. I don't think smart scaling is the solution, I think better light reflation properties are the right way to solve this issue... textures are now being done with specular layers, and that makes them reflect more or less light, I think ED should use the same technique to add these light reflection properties into textures of LOD's (or LOD's themselves, I don't know how they do it, but you get the idea) I can tell you that in EDGE it is bit easier to see targets now... right now in release version the textures just blend in too easy, and it's because terrain behind it has same light reflection "property" as the aircraft itself... so when colors are similar (which is why they use camo patern in the first place) they just blend in too well. Same thing is when there are shadows, same as more light reflection, they create high contrast with background (which are not in shadow) and it makes them easier to spot... EDGE is also being slowly changed to have I think all objects in game create shadow (buildings, terrain/hills) and it makes things more realistic visually. The only problem I still see it far LOD's, they don't seem to have specular in them yet.
  19. I'm a drama queen sometimes also so you're forgiven :D Anyway, I think ED will eventually change other cockpits to have mirror reflection be properly animated like this also.
  20. yeah, I'm not touching min/max FoV, only default one (which I always use when I fly).
  21. I tried fighting the MiG-15 for the first time... I managed to get into 2-3 good firing positions (it was always in climb) but could not get any hits (clearly I need to re-learn leading and estimating where to lead).. eventually I disengaged and extended... shortly after ran out of fuel... and glided a fair bit and managed to land in nick of time (another 1/5km more and I wouldn't make it). I have a question though: How can I adjust FoV? I want to reduce it and SnapViewsDefault.lua doesn't have it... is it in dcs/mods/aircrafts/f-86f/views.lua? If so, which bit?
  22. I have that OpenGL Triple buffering ON and I don't see this glitch... weird.
  23. no worries to higher the resolution... I think also they should use 2 screens for the OR instead of 1... each screen to cover 1 eye. That should also cover wider FoV, which I think is also needed in addition for much higher resolution (you must be able to read the instruments and HUD without need to lean in) As SkateZilla said, it's the extra viewports that make massive FPS hit, not the resolution (provided you have good video card) and as even with 1 screen you are still running 2 viewports, running it with 2 screens won't make much difference at all.
