  1. One thing I don't like about this OR is that the OR Store has to be open every time you start DCS. Its really annoying.
  2. in DCS Settings resolution still shows as 3840x2160 (res of the 4K TV). Should I change this to OR resolution (2160x1200)? EDIT: never mind, I realize this is exactly what I should do :) But if pixel density is more than 1 the actual rendering resolution is more than that, before being scaled down to rift resolution.
  3. I must add, when and if we get something like VR gloves with heptic feedback, man, this VR flying will get so good I'll not want to leave the house.
  4. I think mid 20's are my lowest. This is in 1.5.4 and I haven't had a chance to try out tester's version. In air I think I am getting around 40-50 and it doesn't feel bad/low. I do see smudging of the image when turning head fast, especially on the edges as image is more blury there. Center is as sharp as it gets I think. Reading the HUD in Su-27 is no issue, instruments are not bad to read also, but little labels and writing in the pit no, those must lean in and center them in the view to be able to read them. I was bit disappointed that when I first hopped into non-clickable aircraft like Su-27 (which is what I tries so far, and the MiG-21Bis) you must have everything either on the HOTAS, programmed so you don't need the kayboard, but then I realized also that coms menu is also major pain in the ***. I can imagine when I go online again, I will not be using chat for sure, its complete immersion killer. :music_whistling: Overall VR is really great, I dig it. PS: I have no idea how people can get 60 down low, they must have everything on lowest setting. I just can't fly like that. EDIT: I tried using pixel density at 1, and set textures, visibility distance and shadows to Medium and I was up to 90fps on ground at Mozdok. So it is possible to get high fps, just need to lower settings.
  5. Since I've just used the Rift since last night, I am still a newb when it comes to it, so I feel stupid I have to ask but who cares, right... so about this ATW, is there something I need to install or use/change in DCS or somewhere else (maybe video card drivers) to get ATW to work? I don't know, maybe its working already but I wouldn't have a clue :)
  6. I can see the pixels clearly, the resolution definitely needs to be 4K per screen to become less obvious (or maybe can't see it at that resolution). Still the sensation of 3D and feeling of actually sitting in the pit is just great. I can't see myself using just a 2D screen any more :noexpression: I also find it much harder to turn right side to check six, turning left and leaning head back towards right makes it easier, but man, does this not show how hard dog fighting in such high performance aircraft really is. If every person would be using VR and not monitor and feel the G, there would be no more insane turns, pulls and what not else you see online. :D
  7. What do you mean using the VR cover?
  8. Tonight I finally got my Oculus Rift CV1 connected, setup, and took it for a spin in DCS 1.5.4 Su-27 and MiG-21Bis. First thing I thought to myself when I entered the cockpit was "wow", the sense of scale and that 3D feel with VR really doea make you feel like you are sitting in that cockpit. It really is that immersive! I have few downsides though. Resolution is not enough to be perfect, but I knew this already and can't really expect more from first generation of 1st consumer VR market/headset. I think 3rd gen will become as good as HD monitors. FoV is one thing where VR needs to increase, and then also resolution. Once those 2 come, flying DCS in VR will be truly awesome. It really is so much better in few regards already compared to monitor, well the only 2 things monitor has for itself now is better resolution, and ability to easily use keyboard. Then there is also bit of heat I can feel on my face when I wear the OR, the screens and electronics inside do heat up a little. My eyes and face can feel them. I am not sure if this will cause an issue for me with time.... time will tell. So far, after 2 flights I think my eyes are bit strained right now. There is also good sides. The head tracking is really good, to the point where I can stick my head outside the canopy (I did this in MIG-21Bis) and look at the fuselage... I noticed that only some parts of the MiG-21Bis fuselage are showing when inside the pit. I hope LN change this and add few more side sections to be visible. It just feels great to sit in this pit. The pilot body in Su-27 is also very immersive, I get the feeling like its my own. Stick movement is almost matching my real stick movement (because its floor mounted and deflections are pretty much spot on in every direction, I even limited the stick travel forward to not go full axis length :) ) I took a peak at my aircraft (MiG-21Bis) in F2 view, while flying low.. and wow, again... the feel of depth perception and distance is really good, you just have to see it to believe it. VR really is the right way forward for DCS and flight sims in general, I think car racing games are just asking for it also. The gauges are readable, well most are, some are with very small script, you have to lean in to read it, but most important stuff is readable, and you know what they are most of the time anyway even without reading. Tool-tips are nice in VR also, to click in the pit (that is clickable) solves hard-to-use-keyboard issue, you know where the mouse is, you move it, icursor pops up and tooltips when you are over a button or a switch, you can also move your head to move the cursor and click as you normally would, not that heard at all. The only other hard thing is now coms... need keyboard for that. I think voice activation software will need to be used so you don't have to fiddle around and looking for keyboard keys. In short... VR is really good, sense of being there is really there. Once the FoV and resolution increase to good levels, we are in for such a treat! I think also new tech for screens could solve the little heat issue. Time will tell.
  9. I recently changed my system from i7 3930k to i7 6850k, and of course the m/b ram bits that pair with it. Granted I haven't tried VR with my old system, and I haven't actually even tried it yet with new one, I can't say what performance difference I get, but what I can say is that from looking into that very well done DCS benchmark thread by the guy from EK (http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=157374) I tested by system with same settings he did to compare with his results and I recall my min fps was 42 (this was with i7 3930k @ 4.4GHz), and latest gen i7 6700k @ 4GHz got at 56. So I decided to upgrade as I need all the FPS for VR as I can get. I think for you upgrade would be good choice also.
  10. Well, i5 2500k is middle range, 4 generations of Intel CPU's behind. So I'd say yes, your CPU is inadequate.
  11. That is one major and great undertaking, I truly wish you all the best and you turn this into viable business. I have only one "concern" and that is possible downside of VR taking over the flight sim market... time will tell. I would really love to have a good working pit say, for MiG-29 or Su-27, or even F/A-18, your project could make it a reality. Wish you good luck.
  12. Maybe  Ah well... :music_whistling:
  13. I can't believe some people are still voting for the N/A option... is my first post description not clear enough? :)
  14. Last night I finally got ButtKicker to work, it was some settings I missed, but I can't think which one now as I have been playing around with different things at the same time (as I have few more issues to iron out with my new system). I think the issue was that volume for certain speakers (among them for C/Sub) was set to zero for some reason, when I was playing around with un-installing/installing the sound card driver I noticed that it was always putting this volume to zero. So anyway, it's working now, that's the most important thing. :)
  15. They are the same. I'll try tomorrow reinstalling the sound card driver. Not sure what else is left to try. :(
  16. Yes it is, sound is at 100% for both main output as well as Subwoofer volume Sound comes through to ButtKicker as normal (I get the shake when bass speaker is being tested). The green lights on sound device playback is also moving green Cables are definitely fine also, otherwise I would not be getting sound when I go to Advanced tab of the sound device and click on Test button. It all works fine, but for some reason playing test sound in SimShaker audio module doesn't. :noexpression: I need to go to sleep now... hopefully better luck tomorrow.
  17. Alright, so its not .NET Framework. The green bars move so there is definitely sound being transmitted from the sound card. Its driving me nuts, I don't understand what could be wrong.
  18. I haven't connected the Rift yet, I am still trying to solve few issues I have with the new system, for one I can't get ButtKicker to work with SimShaker, even the test sound won't play for some reason. When I get that sorted out then I want to tweak BIOS bit better see if I can get little better overclock (I am on 4.2GHz now but I don't think its stable as sometimes it won't boot into windows, and sometimes not even into BIOS. I suspect RAM is not good, it's supposed to be DDR4 3200Mz but I can not get system to boot at that frequency, highest I got is 3000MHz and now I am on 2666MHz. I assume I'll test the rift for the first time on weekend :) I waited so long, might as well wait a few days more :D Seriously, I really like what you are making for your pit. :notworthy:
  19. hm... didn't notice that, I'll check sound device setting once more, maybe there's something that needs changing. Thanks. EDIT: nope, makes no difference if I change this to another sound card. I have tried setting this sound device as stereo and 5.1, in both cases I get nothing in Buttkicker when I play the test sound.
  20. Andrey, I need your help again I installed new system with new OS (Windows 10 64bit) and I can't get test sound to run on ButtKicker - I installed all drivers (3 sound cards, all 3 working when tested in Windows, including the one to which my ButtKicker is connected to) - I installed SimShaker from your website - I selected correct sound device in Sound Module - I selected Sound (Buttkicker and similar devices) option in SimShaker service tab I am sure I got everything correctly setup, yet when I press PLAY for test sound, nothing happens. I need to add that I have tried to install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 as I know this is requirement, but when I try to run it, setup says I already have this (or newer version) as part of the Windows 10 OS and that I don't need it. I wonder if this is somehow causing it not to work? If it is, what can I do to fix this?
  21. I think it can be done same way as with vehicle smoke as long as I can find out what is the lua file that does it, but then again not sure if people would like it as very long smoke stack with very long duration would just eat a bit of your FPS, especially when you are very close to it (there would need to be many more smoke particles in the smoke stack and they would stay for a long time).
  22. That is just one awesome looking pit!
  23. Well I got mine today, but I haven't opened it yet, I am still configuring and tweaking my new system I put together last weekend.
  24. I just want to have an idea how many people using DCS are converting to VR :) I don't care what VR headset is used ;)
