  1. I'm not sure what cargo planes you are talking about. The Mi-8 is a helicopter, not an airplane.
  2. DCS already has playable MANPADS (added with CA 1.5), and I expect them to improve with the upcoming skeleton infantry animations for DCS 2.0.
  3. Saying we should not have a Supercobra because of the Huey is like saying we should not have an Mi-24 because of the Mi-8. The Ka-50 does not fill the gap for American attack helicopter because it is not American. Contrary to your statement, I think the Ka-50 should give the supercobra priority over adding a second Russian attack helicopter to DCS. While I do agree that the UH-1H makes the AH-1G largely redundant, the AH-1W is more like an AH-64 than a UH-1.
  4. You are not required to click anything in the A-10C. Just use keyboard commands for everything!
  5. I successfully identified, locked, and fired on an enemy MiG-29 in multiplayer... and then I was shot down by his R-27 before my missile hit. You will have better luck with rocket pods against light ground targets.
  6. Fixed that for you... All the other planes on your list were not in service during World War 2.
  7. Correct. I would personally love to see some civilian developers enter the DCS development arena. The civilian fixed wing section of DCS doesn't really have any competition right now if you don't count trainers, and it might attract new fans to the sim too. Also the idea that developing civilian planes cuts into military plane development overlooks the fact that many aircraft have both civilian and military uses: Mi-8, UH-1, A330, AT-802... On topic: There is no aircraft that I do not want to see in DCS. If it can fly, I want to see it in DCS. (There are certain aircraft that I would rather see first though.)
  8. This bug affects all EFM/AFM/PFM aircraft. It will obviously have to be fixed before DCS: F/A-18C is released. Hopefully it is fixed before the F-14 too. The current workaround is to keep the ship stationary.
  9. This is not true. Unlike more recent modules, the A-10C shows as "DCS: A-10C Warthog (download version)" regardless of whether or not it was in beta when you purchased it. Here is the press release for the DCS: A-10C official release: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/press_releases/TFC_ED_A-10C_Press_Release.pdf any purchases prior to the date in that press release (February 21, 2011) were made during beta.
  10. The big gray cone on the nose would have to be removed before flight. It is just a cover.
  11. The original F-key comm system from versions prior to Battlefield 2 was actually much faster to use once you had all the important keys memorized. It was just less intuitive and harder to use while learning. The current comms in DCS basically work the same way. The only frustrating part in the current implementation is when the radio menu gets interrupted by something right before I press a key.
  12. Actually, you do. A Miramar map without San Diego would be as unacceptable as a Nellis map without Las Vegas.
  13. No it is not. The F-14B is the F-14A+. The Bombcat is the upgraded F-14B.
  14. So if you get even more sleep deprived the next announcement might end up being CST?
  15. I mostly fly by the feeling. The main numbers I keep memorized are fixed wing approach speeds and helicopter maximum rate of descent. I keep those memorized because they are the most important for safety. By the time you feel vortex ring state it is already too late if you are not high enough to recover. Besides, One or two numbers for each aircraft is not too bad for memorizing. MiG-21: 340 km/h, F-15C: 150 kts, P-51D: 120 MPH, UH-1H: -500 ft/min... With the MiG-21 you have to remember 5g maneuver limit while carrying a payload or you lose it. You can't feel your way out of that one. It might also be worth memorizing max continuous on the P-51D so you don't blow your engine, but as long as you keep the temperatures in the green you should be fine.
  16. With multiseat capacity, I think it would be cool to allow players to be a passenger or gunner on some vehicles without owning them. I know this has been suggested before since Rise of Flight works this way. Being a door gunner in the UH-1H would be very similar since all you get is a gun, but the problem with DCS is that some modules like the AH-1W would have very advanced systems available to the gunner. Unlike WW1, In some aircraft the "gunner" can basically fly the whole thing. If DCS ever does player infantry, at least allowing the passenger role to those players is essential. (Would be nice for downed pilots too :) ) So the question is, how much of all the modules need to be available for passengers? I would say only transport aircraft! In addition to the security concerns, there is no need to fill up a dedicated ground unit player's hard disk with cockpits for things like the AH-1W or L-39. Just provide a detailed passenger compartment for transports. Additionally, I would say passengers should have access to simple weapons on transports like the door guns in the UH-1H (or maybe firing their own personal weapons), but sitting in the front seat should require "additional training" (owning the module).
  17. Definitely a Yorktown class. Launching from the hangar deck catapult would be cool.

  19. A couple of related questions: First, will the tanks (and other ground vehicles) be Combined Arms compatible? (Might be fun to have some more stuff to drive around!) Second, will the new ground vehicles work in all theaters? Do I need to own a specific theater to have access to certain ground units? Oh, was I supposed to be more excited about the new airplanes? Maybe on monday ; )
  20. I'm not sure what else you want. The only thing that is not handled directly by EFM code are collisions, and except when you are on the ground you should spend over 99% of your flight not collided with anything. With the current EFM API there would be no problem implementing "cool" stuff like flyable VTOL airplanes. The only things that can't really be done yet (as far as I know) are wake turbulence effects and terrain effects on wind currents (other than ground effect). Neither of those things would require an entirely new physics engine. I could even use the current EFM API to make a Star Trek warp drive if I wanted to... but Georgia is too small for warping.
  21. I don't think you understand what DCS World 2 is. ED will not Finalize DCS World 1 because there will be no more DCS World 1. Anyone who downloads DCS World will be getting DCS World 2. The "2" is just a version number. They could call it DCS 1.3.0 if they wanted to.
  22. You might be surprised at how popular the AT-802 would be. It kind of has a cult following around here.
  23. I made various flights with the MiG-21 with both the R-60M and the R-13M1 and I can't lock on front aspect targets. I can only lock airplanes from behind. I tried setting the MiG-21 to AI controlled and it successfully fires at front aspect targets with IR missiles. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?
  24. 1.2.15 is in open beta now. This might be the day.
