  1. It looks like they used way too strong of a sharpening filter. You can see a heavy bright outline around most of the edges in the video.
  2. "Always" There is no reason to land with full flaps when you have a giant, paved, modern runway. It will just make it easier to crash. On the Normandy map it might make sense to land with flaps more often. Maybe it is more "correct" by the book to land with full flaps, but from personal experience in the sim, I have an easier time landing the dora and pony without flaps, so I recommend that to anyone who is having difficulty with landings.
  3. This thread reminds me of when the F-15C first came out and some of the FC3 community said it was unlandable. Since I already had experience landing the warthog and the pony, I had absolutely no trouble landing the PFM F-15C on the first go. Same with the Dora. The more PFMs you have experience with, the easier each new one you try will seem. Tip: Keeping your flaps retracted will make landing and takeoff easier in the P-51 and FW-190 (at the obvious expense of rolling distance).
  4. That was before they decided to change to the AH-1W. Based on that change being made recently, I am guessing they are still early in development. I would not expect anything until next year at the earliest.
  5. The best part is how almost the entire MFD is set to HUD (HMD?) repeater.
  6. This will become much more prominent with the upcoming release of EDGE, especially if you get one of the new maps like NTTR or Strait of Hormuz.
  7. Maybe you are comparing with the wrong helicopter. The AH-1W can also launch the AIM-9 and Hellfires, but it only has 4 hardpoints. The AH-1Z has 6 hardpoints. So the AH-1W can carry 8 Hellfires, 4 Hellfires and 1 AIM-9, or 2 AIM-9s. The AH-1Z can carry 16 Hellfires and 2 AIM-9s.
  8. If we guess all the dates, one of us is bound to be right. November 1st.
  9. The most difficult part of the FW-190 without pedals is ground handling. The FW-190 uses only differential braking for steering, and it is not possible to map an axis to more than one command in DCS (so you can't map ground steering and rudder together on a twist stick).
  10. I would prefer the AH-1T, but the AH-1F is much better than the AH-1G. I am still hoping for a fictional USMC livery for naval ops until we get something more appropriate. In any case, I seem to be in the minority that actually prefers the AH-1 over the AH-64.
  11. The current workaround to this bug is to have the ship stationary.
  12. Attach a .trk file of your shut down and restart so we can see what you are doing. That makes it much easier to give advice.
  13. The last DCS news update was so amazing that I forgot it was time for a new update.
  14. Possible alternatives: Windows9, Windows_9, Windows 09, Windows 8++, Windows IX... That is something hidden behind the scenes. They could just call it Banana in the code and market it as anything they want. I am almost certain this is entirely for marketing reasons. Same reason the XBox 2 jumped 359 versions.
  15. I assume it is because none of the aircraft in DCS are dedicated for naval aviation (although I was surprised that it wasn't fixed back when they added naval takeoff to the Ka-50). This bug will have to be fixed when carrier ops gets an overhaul for DCS: F-18C. I don't think EDGE has anything to do with dynamics. Yeah, that. This bug has been around since the very first release of DCS: Black Shark.
  16. It is definitely Russian, and it looks like the Radar screen on the right here, but I am not familiar enough with Russian cockpits to tell you which plane Wags' picture is from. It is missing the grid lines that I usually see on the Su-27.
  17. I am not criticizing ED, but the naming convention, which is apparently standard. It annoys me that car companies and sports game developers release their "2015 edition" in 2014, and it annoys me that 88% of "winter 2014" is actually in 2015. Both of these conventions are misleading if you are not familiar with them. Judging by other posts I have seen, I would say there is a large amount of confusion (even to the extent of someone thinking winter 2014 could include November). People here appear to fall into two categories of: "It obviously means before the end of 2014" and "How could you possibly not realize that 2014 means 2015?" (usually a more courteous version of that). I am not going to come back to the forum and type an "ED hate post" because ED did not come up with the convention. I realize I am being a bit ranty, but my hostility is not directed at ED nor any other specific person here. In any case, software development in general almost always takes longer than planned, so I honestly don't have a problem with it being released in 2015. Release dates are guesses, not promises, and I would rather have release date guesses that get missed every time than no release date at all. This is most likely the last time I will even make a post regarding the Strait of Hormuz release date statement.
  18. That is kind of silly. If there is a year put on something, then it should be during that year, not the next one (nor the previous one, car companies). If the Strait of Hormuz map comes out in 2015 then I will consider it delayed. I don't have a problem with it being delayed (and I won't criticize ED since delays are normal in software), but I am not going to make up an excuse for it. (Oh, see, but this is really what we meant, you just didn't understand us.) If ED really means it as you say it, then they should make an official statement clarifying this soon.
  19. gefs-online uses google earth data for its map. There are a lot of height map artifacts though, so sometimes the runway has airplane sized bumps on it. If ED used google earth for it's maps they would be much lower quality than what they have planned with EDGE.
  20. Excellent suggestions. I have added all of these to my day-one-buy wish list. The playable German Shepard is actually the only reason I bought ARMA 2. Maybe if you are lucky I will also announce my useless DCS mod soon.
  21. You forgot to include Crimea.
  22. Technically blue has the S-3B tanker for probe refuelers, but the model is really outdated, so I am happy with the A330 getting done.
  23. I've shot two players out of the sky (and another on the ground) with the main gun of a Leopard 2 tank, so it isn't fair to say there is "nothing" to shoot at, but the ground component of DCS needs to be improved and I am pretty sure ED knows that.
  24. I didn't buy the Mi-8 or the F-86, so I can't say I buy every module. I don't plan on buying "all other planes of an era" either. I don't really "love" the A-10 or the MiG-21, but I bought them anyway. (no offense, they are wonderful modules of course.) I guess I must roll the dice without realizing it.
  25. Well you have a second and third, so consider those both valid.
