The P-80 saw limited use in WWII. http://www.defensemedianetwork.com/stories/project-extraversion-p-80-shooting-stars-in-world-war-ii/

The main burden, as I implied with my earlier post in this thread, will be all of the frivolous maps that get submitted. I can pretty much guarantee that I will be submitting some frivolous maps if I can't export my own. Not for the sake of harassment, but because simple maps can still have some gameplay value, and variety is nice. Also, where else am I going to find a perfectly flat, straight strip of pavement 50 km long?

Yeah, I forgot about that too. The very first time I did the P-51 takeoff training mission, I followed the instructors directions exactly, and almost as soon as I got into the air, my engine failed without enough energy to turn around and land again. Oh, and this can happen:
-
DCS: Enterprise. Pick any version you want. Some helicopters would be cool too. Why not a P-80 or Meteor?

The Huey is easier in combat if you load up miniguns. That thing is a demon against infantry and light vehicles. Huey definitely has more complex systems (though not by much). I would say the P-51 is harder to fly. You might look more like a complete noob trying to take off and land the Huey because of all the control coupling and deflections, but it is less vicious: In the P-51, if you forget to put up your flaps before takeoff there is a good chance you are going to run off the runway. If start to stall on approach and throttle up quickly, you are probably going to spin out and crash into the runway. If you fill 100% fuel, you are unstable. If you bounce on landing, the second bounce can be even harder. If you are not careful while braking, you can nose over. If you don't keep it straight down the runway, you can spin out and burst into flames. Conventional gear is inherently unstable on the ground. The tail wheel steering can be pretty hard for new players. There is no copilot or autopilot for when you need a break or want to look over the map or briefing. The two main things to worry about with the Huey are vortex ring state and mast bumping. Those are pretty easy to avoid just by watching your vertical speed and avoiding rapid or strong control deflections.

I found an inconsistency in your logic.

I think that was sufficient for today. I prefer having my news stretched out instead of a giant dump all at once followed by a long period of nothing.
-
Who said there has to be a version 1.2.9? I have even seen devs do stuff like 1.2.10 after 1.2.9 instead of 1.3.0

EDGE is not limited to the detail level that you see on the NTTR. There could be smaller specialized maps made to a much higher level of detail specifically for ground combat vehicles.
-
In spoiler: I'd like to know if that noise is an ingame effect of EDGE or if those are photoshopped.

DCS: Zombie Apocalypse.

I assume that the ground physics will be handled largely by the tank AFM. Just messing around with the AFM code, I managed to implement surface roughness effects by applying semi-random vertical displacements to the aircraft when it runs off pavement. I also managed to get working variable traction based on surface types and on road/pavement vs. off road, but DCS currently has very limited surface types. I think I could manage variation of traction based on weather too, but I didn't try that. Of course EDGE will have much higher terrain geometry resolution, so that will help too.

I think this goes here: I selected some major points from the latest newsletter: EDGE confirmed for 1.3.0. Confirmed improvements for MiG-29 as well as a mention of the F/A-18C being in progress. DCS: Armor confirmed.
-
I have never seen any mention of specific version keys. All module keys should work on both DCS: World and DCS: WWII. The only difference between the kickstarter rewards are the dates when you get them. The "reward" version is available as soon as the airplane is released to DCS: World, while the "flyable" version is not available until you have access to DCS: WWII. Even on this thread he says it: I do agree that the way they labeled these rewards is confusing, but the intent is clear.

So do we know for certain that the F-15C AFM will be available to FC3 owners? I was planning on buying the standalone F-15, but it will probably be $15-$20 when it is released, and FC3 is on sale for $20 right now. Are there any advantages to getting the standalone other than maybe saving $5?
-
If this is the case, it won't stop me from submitting DCS: Waterworld for export.

Well basically the entire world is related to facebook in some way. I could just grow a long beard, find a nice mountain, and live under a rock... or I can afford some level of reasonability. My money is not going to to Facebook when I support ED because ED does not pay Facebook for its services.
-
I'm not jumping to conclusions at all. Oculus Rift might turn out to be a great product. I just don't want my money to go to Facebook or anything related to it. As a consumer, my money is essentially a vote for the companies that I approve of.

World of Warcraft did not do anything that had not already been done by other MMORPGs. "Gaming" and "Social" have been combined for as long as there have been games. Did your school have a chess club?
-
If you post how much you hate Facebook on Facebook, then you are a hypocrite anyway.
-
I have faith that there will be competition. I will wait 10 years if I have to. Not for Oculus Rift though. I have principles.
-
Because now any time I ever see a really cool looking thing on kickstarter, I will also think to myself: "But this might end up being owned by EA, Facebook, or Enron."
-
The destruction preventer is supposed to be fixing the forum, not breaking it.
-
I was seriously considering saving money for this. Now I am not. Uncoolness confirmed. No respect. This is a slap in the face of anyone who has ever contributed to a crowd funding project.

Camera/mouse smoothing is a good option to have, but it should absolutely never be default or enforced on the user. It looks nice for cinematics, but it makes game controls feel really laggy. Lots of modern games mess this up these days.
