  1. Well physics is physics. If you went all out and modeled both airplanes with full computational fluid dynamics, the code could be completely generic and give the proper flight characteristics for both airplanes... but then you wouldn't be able to run it in real time on a desktop computer. Getting a flight model that accurately portrays the peculiarities of each airplane while still running in real time is probably a big reason the code isn't a simply copy pasta template. Yes, they both have two wings, two tails, and a fuselage; and wings and tails work the same way in general, but the way these components interact with each other will be different on different airplanes and require special attention. (It would be silly to start completely from scratch each time though).
  2. The "templates" would be proprietary. ED is obviously not sharing their code with everyone, but they already said they can borrow a lot from the P-51D for their other WWII planes.
  3. I got the Su-25T supersonic in a dive a couple weeks ago.
  4. I just quoted the project leader on page 8 effectively saying it would not be "full A/A". There will at least be bombs, and maybe SEAD and anti-ship. Honestly though, being stuck with the Super 530D is going to put us at a disadvantage in BVR with everything this side of the Vietnam war. I see myself using this as an attacker more than a fighter, even with the limited weapon choices.
  5. The only guided A-G weapons we might see are mentioned in the following post: AM-39 Exocet is an anti-ship missile. AS-37 ARMAT is an anti-radiation missile. All other A-G weapons we get will be unguided. As far as I am concerned though, if we can do SEAD, anti-ship, and bomb tanks, the 2000C might as well be called multirole. Right now the Su-25T is the only DCS/FC3 airplane that can do SEAD at all, so this will be a valuable addition.
  6. I am a DCS local. I own five modules, play somewhat regularly, and have already planned the purchases of several upcoming modules. My willingness to buy future modules from RRG is at stake. I will probably never contribute to an RRG or Luthier kickstarter ever again, even if DCS WWII is good. There are other 3rd party developers I can support instead.
  7. I was told a story once about some American tourists at a locally owned restaurant France. One of the tourists tried to order a steak, but the waiter said they were out of steak, and the tourist was disappointed. A while later, a group of locals that had come into the restaurant (after the tourists) had steak delivered to them at a nearby table, which made the tourist upset. The point is: One time profits are meaningless compared to guaranteeing your future customers. The tourist will never come back to that restaurant again anyway, but if you make the locals upset, you are going to have a hard time making any money in the future.
  8. Yes, I can tell RRG got my money. That is not the part I am concerned about.
  9. My main concern is: Can I get a confirmation email on my paypal contribution to the kickstarter? Since I picked the paypal option, I don't have access to any of the backer exclusive news, which I am okay with, but having no confirmation from RRG on my status as a contributer makes me a little uncomfortable.
  10. Here: Art assets is the last 10% of the NTTR map, EDGE integration is the last 10% of integration, and beta testing is the next 180% of both. (And "probably not until Mid-December" probably means early 2014.)
  11. I'm pretty sure he meant integration of EDGE and DCS too. There is even a Wikipedia article on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninety-ninety_rule
  12. It isn't in the Luckybob/Sithspawn infopost, but I think this is what you are looking for. Specifically points 3, 6, and 7. Now we just need the EDGE SDK to be released and an open source community globe project to get started.
  13. DCS Monorail. You know you want it!
  14. I like to use both the gyro and fixed sight. I usually set the gyro to minimum range because it doesn't drift as much there. If you imagine a straight line running through the middle of both sights, you can basically interpolate/extrapolate where you need to put the target based on how far away it is. Also, it makes the pony feel a little more high tech. I want a "clutter" button that puts flashing lights and science fictiony stuff on my HUD.
  15. This game certainly has one of the best PR campaigns ever and I think it will be a good game, but firstly, it is not "out there" because you can't play it yet, and secondly, I think not having orbital dynamics automatically disqualifies you for "DCS level space sim."
  16. If that is what it takes to keep a product line like DCS afloat, then I can't complain (others can and will of course). The Nevada screens all have similar level of quality, so these videos at least demonstrate the potential of what EDGE maps could be like in the future. In any case, we know we have NTTR and Normandy in development, which should keep me entertained for a while, and since I contributed to the RRG kickstarter I should have access to the EDGE SDK. That is enough for me.
  17. That would be a big mistake.... except there is this statement regarding those kickstarter images of Corsica, a map which can be seen in the Altwolf videos: Unannounced implies they plan on announcing it to us at some point, from which you can infer they hope to make it available to us eventually... Either that or they just made mistakes on mistakes. And that right there is probably why we don't have any new maps yet.
  18. Check DCS World\Sounds\Effects\Ambient Field.ogg, Field_Night.ogg, and Town.ogg have bird and insect noises. I assume you heard one of these.
  19. You should not state your assumption as a fact. There has not been any announcement regarding discontinuation of sales.
  20. It is defined in the lua scripts. (GT_t.lua) generic.time_agony = 4
  21. To do such a thing would not only be uninformed, but go against the wishes of Leatherneck Simulations. If they had the grounds to sue and wanted to, they would.
  22. Okay, now I regret my decision. My post would have been way better than that.
  23. There is a part of me that wants to make the first post in the new forum section. The rest of me knows it would be chit-chat quality, so instead I am posting here.
  24. I have read that is not true. Apparently eye motion in dreams can be detected by an observer outside the dream. Test subjects asked to move their eyes a certain way in a certain time interval matched the correct time interval in real life, which means that time perception is the same inside and outside of dreams. That is kind of off topic though so... Two nights ago I had a dream that I got an 80% warn level on the DCS forums. Maybe it was for being off topic in this thread.
  25. Definitely high on my wishlist. More capabilities will mean more flight hours for me. Also, I don't know if it was ever used by the 2000C, but here is a BAP-100 on the prototype (but I prefer those missiles if I had to choose). He probably means the ARMAT variant of the AS-37, which is an anti-radar missile used on the Mirage 2000. I don't think the Martel was ever used by the Mirage 2000. You may be able to use the ARMAT against ships too, but it would probably get detected too early to be very effective. Note that the AM-39 is the Exocet, so there is your anti-ship missile.
