  1. I almost remember a post that stated MAC would see the light of day by the last quarter, this year which is coming in 2 weeks. Any news on this ? Laz
  2. Greyeagle787, Just a couple of additional hints. Ordering will take a significant amount of time from some vendors. The Alienware G-11 can be upgraded with ssd's instead of hdd's. Also these machines run hot so you might, as I have done, add more cooling. Look up on ytube, cooling Alienware g-11. My delivery took about 3 weeks. Vipril components usually take about 2-3 weeks if in stock...longer if back ordered, however Virpil are extremely well engineered. ( With a motion sim base and the VR, be sure you wont get motion sickness.) With the warthog and the G-2 you should be in good shape. You will probably want to upgrade to Virpil in the future. The learning curve on most programs in DCS being study sims, is quite challenging and will take up a lot of time. But being a pilot and already quite knowledgeable you should do very well. You did not indicate what type aircraft you flew. Military, commercial or private, fixed wing or rotary? You will have a ball and of course there are other sims with different subject matter. laz
  3. If you have the funds, I would recommend the following: Computer Alienware R-11 loaded..64gb, 2tbM2, 2tb nvme, RTX 3090, I9 10900kf, will come with 1kw power supply and other top items, bluetooth-wi-fi. As mentioned, All Virpil hardware, HP Reverb G2 VR headset, motion platform and since you intend VR any monitor will do but I would get a premium monitor, "Pixio". DOF Reality Motion simulators about 3k$ with shipping. It would be easy to spend over 10k for all of the equipment. I purchased less expensive gear and enjoyed it.....but replaced most with more premium equipment. I have the Thrustmaster warthog and only used it to upgrade the firmware so it hopefully not brick. Never used it . I have all the mentioned gear with an array of others. I might also mention that DCS will cost about 1k$ if purchasing most of the titles, I do not have all but my total is around 1200.00. There is not any overkill...just what you are willing to spend. Super top equipment can far exceed what I have listed. You did not mention your budget for this. laz
  4. E-shop selling these terrains indicates both should be good with 16gb ram. It also states for heavy missions you should have 32gb. This of course also depends on your graphics settings....more eye candy, more memory. Lower graphics should insure 16gb for either. laz
  5. With new releases from other sim developers and since most are not study level configurations, I would think ED missed that opportunity. So with that I believe that this project, MAC, has been put way way back on the development plans. I really like Flaming Cliffs as I have the time to use it. Not so much the study sims. If ED would model more planes and types and ED's best guesses on flight fm would be fine. I would think if several new developers would just do MAC type planes and even maps there should be sufficient funds to be made. I realize Mac types cannot be mixed with the more fully molded types. imo....;Laz
  6. What is the latest information on MAC? With the release of 2.7 and the futher repairs needed and the work on the F-16 and F-18 taking up most of the programming development/bug time, just wondering if the MAC idea has been forgotten as there is no one left to work on it. I for one am really looking forward to this addition. So much so I have mostly focused on other sims. Laz
  7. Ok, 2.7 beta has arrived. Huge update. How is it working for you? When is the next update ( addressing new glitches found in 2.7)? Does 2.7 operate without any major glitches? Thanks, Laz
  8. I received my new R-11 Alienware. I9 10900KF, 64GB 3400 DDR4 HYPER X, 2TB SSD, 2TB HDD soon to be changed to SSD, RTX3090 24GB 6X, 1kW power supply, Killer wi-fi w/bluetooth 5.1 and liquid cooling. I could not have built this same configuration for the price I paid. I will mod this with 2 more fans another SSD. I also have a R8 w/ I9 9900K, 32gb, 1TB SSD, 2TB hdd to be changed to sdd, RTX 2080TI w/11GB, wi-fi and bluetooth, 850w power. Its also new. water cooled I also have a semi new I7 4790K, RTX 1070, 16gb, 26gb ssd, 1TB HDD, 750w power water cooled. The programs I want to install on these various computers are, DCS, MSFS, IL2 and a F-! racing game. So I will wait until 2.7 arrives before loading. Question, which computer to install which games? I would kinda like to save the R-11 for up coming programs. I have available a new 50in sony monitor, a new 32in curve Pixio I want to use with the F1 setup and 2 32in Viewsonics. I also have a 3- 21in monitor setup for an older version of DCS/ LOCKON flight sim setup. I will put together a VR setup. I have 3 new other 32in Viewsonics I had purchased for another setup that I have not finished. They are for a 6dof motion system. That system will be run on a small super computer...VME coupled with an Amiga 4000 and a IBM UNIX system. In my garage I have a number of IBM clones from yesteryear with lots of flight sims for those times with lots of cool video cards. 8088,80286,80386,80486, Pentiums etc. I have a full compliment of Virpil gear along with a helicopter cyclic and collective. I have a large collection of computers. Laz
  9. I have wanted to build a new computer. To find all the parts I wanted became impossible. The microprocessor would be available but the motherboard would vanish. It wasn't worth the effort trying to locate a 30xx series video card. Purchasing one component and waiting until the other became available was a crap shoot. Also if you wait too long and finally fire the parts up and one is defective, cant return it. Well I received an email showing that Alienware has what I wanted...mostly. For several months they have not had the top end of video cards. They must have received the needed chips as they actually build their own rgx 3090 cards. Their card is shorter than the general run of that card. They won't sell the card by itself as it has to be in a system. 99% of the time I build my own systems. Cannot build without parts available. So I bit the bullet and ordered a Alienware R-11...The specs are; RGX 3090, 64gb ram, 2tb mvme ssd, 2tb hd, , 1kwatt ps, I9-10900 kf, water cooled, super fast blue tooth etc. I ordered new fans and a couple of other items as the unit as it comes is loud and runs a little warm. The mods will tame the beast. Pretty expensive. But actually came in less money than I had calculated my parts list for the system I wanted to build. It will arrive in about 2 weeks. Laz
  10. Funny thing, when I clicked any of 2-Tone's log files...my own directory on my g drive comes up. How could that happen? It's like a virus selecting my directorys. Very disconcerting to say the least. Any ideas before I do something like thorough cleanout. Never mind ..old age...corrected this. Laz
  11. Read somewhere that a company is releasing a FFB controller. The price as I remember is around 2400.00. I would think the market is for cockpit builders. Price is not really considered a deal breaker. I believe I saw this ad in PC PILOT.... There is a good discussion on Reddit under r/hotas.

  13. Most of the higher-end cards are almost non-existent. I think the next generation will also follow.....slow inventory to drive up prices..hype...rumors....trying to purchase is a joke...by the time products are available, the next generation is announced with the same old hype and non existent inventory.
  14. Price vs. value in design, VKB and Virpil. In your opinion and ownership of these joysticks which BASE is the best design? I think VKB joysticks base has only one supported bearing on each axis, can you confirm this? The Gladiator series (Least expensive model series) has supports on both ends of the axis. Albeit these assemblies are plastic as their Gunfighter series is metal. Lazduc
  15. In this simulator/game, there seems to be an obsession with almost perfect reality. The aircraft/maps must be an exact representation of the actual object. The song is, a price is paid for this perfection and nothing less is acceptable. ( Which becomes very subjective contrasted to the printed information from numerous sources.) Endless mind-numbing useless dialog and arguments are posted. I think to narcotized the virus home-bound, entertainment challenged, aeronautical gifted into aircraft geographical nirvana. IMHO Laz
  16. I was thinking that with different computers that the software protection will not allow two systems on the same account??
  17. Is it possible to have two different computers with both having DCS 2.5 stable? I would like to have my older computer have DCS 2.5 stable and Flaming Cliffs 3 on it. With the lower requirements of FC3 this computer should be able to run this. Just these 3 programs will be on it: FC3, DCS 2.5, and Windows 10. ( Hotas control software.) My other computer will have another copy of DCS 2.5 beta and stable and all my other modules. I will purchase another copy of FC3. Will thee be a conflict with the same IP address? I will not be running both systems at the same time. Just want to have the easy setup with FC3 available so my grandkids can play on it. I know running both simultaneously will require Network Server software BUT correct me if I can assume both computers on my home network will, as they have different network cards, operate correctly?? Just curious as I do not intend to network the computers to run together. Thanks for any information. :D Laz
  18. I received my collective from K-51, the Russian builder. He uses Virpil boards. This is the same as in the previous posts which shows everything.....except he added a large rotary dial on the inboard side. The metal knob is 1.5 in diameter. The twist throttle is excellent as is all the build. Mostly metal and professionally built. Chrome steel shaft holding the extended black poly twist throttle. I believe the friction disk is Teflon. Depending on time...I might add lighting and labels. As it is now, the price is very, very reasonable. With the virus problem, Russian shipping is long. Mine took about 2 months. K-51 kept in constant touch and was very perplexed by the shipping. Packing was again very professional. This collective compared to lets say Virpil products, is in the same class. I just pre-ordered a throttle and MongooseT-50 from Virpil. I have the T-50 base with extension. With the new ordering from Virpil you can avoid the piecemeal put-together and order everything at once. Fix my sprinkler system and then go flying.....finally. Laz
  19. I was told a long time ago that DCS was a rich man's sport and if I could not afford the entry fees/equipment costs then I was playing in the wrong park and basically to move on. A number of members agreed, something like, and don't let the door hit you on the way out. The rebuttal I posted which was much less critical/objectionable than I have read here of late.....won me a year's banishment. This is my first post since....consider yourselves lucky to be able to post critiques, frustrations, opinions, criticisms of any merits and faults. Laz

    Why "O" Why

I read this but cannot find the post. The suggestion/comment was perfect and I wonder why it's not available especially in products that are composed of " Pay now and then get access to the alpha whenever that happens" to "Pay now and have access to a bug prone/unfinished/ much hyped/numerous promised features that may become available as a later date. To be determined but may take a few more years." (These methods of selling software are almost beyond belief but it is.) One super simple way of relieving the anxiety and bad feelings is too: (1) List all pertinent information on the progress development of said software. (2) List all bugs and progress on fixes. (3) If old bugs that are very problematic are not addressed in a timely manner, explanations should be posted. Many software developers have this. This would help everyone from posting the same old glitches/errors/bugs that seem to go on forever. Only new bugs will be sorted to the bug threads as found by the beta purchasers. Anyone else that spots something can look it up on the lists and find the information. If its not listed and one follows the bug reporting procedures it will not be so confusing as to the questions like....has this problem been submitted and has anyone else seen this? Why hasn't this been addressed? Many folks here support the cause and bare the long long wait. Patiently. NineLine...how about seeing if this can be done and if not why? After the money spent on this software and the various states it is in....the least ED could do is these simple steps to keep the members informed. Thanks. :D Laz
  21. Hey Eagle Fux, Put a lid on it. Nothing to contribute except asinine recycled verbiage. Mixalis just joined and your rude self centered remarks should be left in your basement.
  22. Anything that is repetitious becomes boring. Try some other sims. Try a space sim. Lots of games, military, ships, planes and free.Turn off your computer for a few months. Very good chance you won't miss anything unless a new module is released, then the bug hunting begins again.
  23. Thanks guys for the answers. Appreciate your time. Laz
  24. Currently in my new/old computer resides a 1070. I have a spare 1080. If I change these around will that trigger something and disable DCS? I am also adding a 500gb nvme drive. I could also change the processor. Currently in that system lies a 4790K. I also have another 8700K. Should I change everything before I install DCS. I might forgo the CPU change as I want to use that 8700K in something else. What do you think? Thanks. Laz :D
  25. I would call this a score. Off the notorious Craigs List. MSI Z97 Gaming 7, 750w PS, Corsair case, Corsair water cooler, 32GB memory, EVGA 1070 w/8gb, I7-4790K processor, Win10 256gb ssd, 500gb ssd. Excellent condition. $650.00 Delivered. Couldn't pass this up. Just ordered a 500gb M-2 WD Black NVME PCI -Express 2280. Is 500GB large enough to hold almost all of DCS? If not I will get a 1TB SSD. I am going to use my newly built 8700k/Asus390 with duel 1080TI's for something else. I purchased an HP820 with 128GB/Quatro 4000vidcard, 2/ssd and 1/ 2TB HD, dual XEON 2680 @2.7ghz for SolidWorks. I have a person from Switzerland that wants to purchase my IMSAI vintage computer. It also has 2/8" floppy drives. Probably around 100lbs. How much to ship? Best method? Laz :D
