  1. Hey Buzz, You didnt read my post very closely. I wrote " I purchased one 6 months after their released.." Re-read my other post. Laz
  2. I am in the "Do not buy a TM Warthog" side of this. Some say they do not use the throttle because their other throttle is better...some say they do not use the joystick because of all the friction problems, especially since the cost of the TM Warthog should have included a much better design instead of their cheep plastic ball joint with the WW1 goo lubricant. Why purchase such an expensive item and only use half of it and then have to purchase pedals on top of that. ( I purchased one 6 months after their released....listening to all the raves of how great it was..LOL LOL then for the next year after yours bricked, all you heard was how this piece of perfection by some fluke had a problem with several of their designs. Mainly, the joystick ball joint, and the firmware that killed the whole assembly. I did not use mine until they came out with a new firmware fix...took 6 months or so....I added their new firmware and was so disgusted with it I never used it and it still sits in the closet gathering dust. That was over 4 years ago and since, all I hear is problems of wires breaking, no lights, ball stiction.....a waste of money...and a lot of money. For that kind of money one can purchase much better hardware. Look at some of the posts here and find joysticks, pedals, throttles and more. Check them out and compare with the TM Warthog...... Laz IMHO
  3. Not only is dcs a niche market, so are the 3rd party developers. It seems that most of the 3rd party's are only 2-3 man operations and it is only part time. Bug squashing comes last. Interesting enough..I have in my hand a model of the Mig23 FLIPPER....
  4. There are other f-18 sims that could give you a leg up and learning. When the f-18 arrives here you will be top gun. It was mentioned that we should take a break and return when the new maps and aircraft and maybe even 2.5 appears. If you did not want to wait any longer...... So on your hiatus you could learn the f-18 else where.
  5. You guys are talking about geese. My next door neighbor was Captain Christopher Stover. I watched him graduate from high school and go to the Air Force Academy and since there were no open Jet Fighter slots, he accepted helicopter training. He was super intelligent, an extremely generous, great personality , always wanting to help, lots of empathy for all, a great kid...I miss him. Here is a little about him....you can google him and take a look at his photo. Several waterfowl that smashed through a helicopter windscreen caused the crash that killed Capt. Christopher Stover of Vancouver and three other Air Force personnel on Jan. 7. Stover, a 2004 graduate of Evergreen High School, was piloting the HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter on a search-and-rescue training flight along the English coast when it crashed. In a report issued last week, Air Force investigators determined that multiple bird strikes caused the crash of what they called the “mishap aircraft” or MA. “At least three geese penetrated the windscreen of the MA, struck the mishap pilot and mishap co-pilot, rendering them unconscious and thus unable to control the MA. Additionally, at least one goose impacted the front” of the helicopter, disabling its trim and flight path stabilization systems. Three seconds after being struck by the birds, the helicopter hit the ground, killing all four members of the crew, which also included co-pilot Capt. Sean Ruane, Tech. Sgt. Dale Mathews and Staff Sgt. Afton Ponce. The airmen were with the U.S. Air Force’s 56th Rescue Squadron, based at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, England. The 28-year-old Stover is survived by his wife, Sarah Stover; parents Rick and Maribel Stover; and his sister, Kelly Stover. Tough week for family Rick Stover said the family was contacted after the investigation board finished its work. “We did get a briefing before the report was issued, as did all the families,” Rick Stover said in an email message. “Last week was tough, as it marked the six-month mark since the accident, and then the report release. Plus, I was interviewed by the BBC for TV and radio.” Capt. Stover flew 100 rescue missions during a 3½-month deployment to Afghanistan in 2012. In addition to the inherent dangers of combat missions, the job comes with other flying hazards. “Chris and I did talk of the natural issues like buildings, power poles and lines, as well as weather,” Rick Stover said. According to the accident investigation report, Stover was piloting the second helicopter in a two-aircraft exercise. Their training scenario was a low-level — 100 to 150 feet — night-time rescue of an F-16 pilot who had ejected from his jet. Both air crews were wearing night-vision goggles. The exercise was following the United Kingdom’s military recommendations on bird hazards, the report said. The lead helicopter crew didn’t report seeing any birds as it passed over Cley Marshes in the Norfolk Wildlife Trust but the waterfowl were likely startled by the aircraft. Flying at 126 mph over a moonlit English coast, Stover’s craft was about 500 yards behind the lead helicopter and 110 feet above the ground when it was struck by the geese. “The types of geese that hit the (aircraft) weigh between 6 and 12 pounds. A bird weighing 7.5 pounds would impact with 53 times the kinetic energy of a baseball moving at 100 mph,” said the report, which was signed by Brig. Gen. Jon Norman, president of the investigation board, Pieces of the windscreen and bird remains were found about 720 feet from the crash site. No bird remains were found in either engine. Tribute to crew While the report is primarily an account of a disaster — the investigation included engineering analysis and animated simulations — it also serves as a tribute to the four aviators. An “In Memoriam” preface salutes them as search-and-rescue crewmen who “seek out and save the lost, the wounded, and the fallen, day or night, in inclement weather, and in the face of hostile forces. These four airmen took flight on 7 January 2014 to be ready, at a moment’s notice and under any circumstances to find and recover those in need of refuge. … “Together they are credited with saving hundreds of lives.” Lazduc
  6. Hey Gazace, What power supply did you purchase for your new build?
  7. Sitting on carpet...model aircraft.....drone....LOL...tailwheel for a Piper Cub...
  8. Baz, Your photos are not working. Laz
  9. I am sitting here looking at the Updater which had almost finished.....2.6.22.24. I only wanted to update 1.5.xxx. This download went immediately to download open alpha 2.1.xxxx I dont know what the final number is since it is in an end less loop.....INSTALLING RUNTIMES. It has been doing this longer that the initial download......so what do I do? Maybe someone will see this post and let me know....I will wait a while.....otherwise I will terminate this installing runtimes action. Laz .......:D Thanks for any help.
  10. Snow Tiger, Many thanks for your intended contribution of building models.
  11. Lets see.....wait 3 years for a model, then a year of fixes, and then hopefully all the promised elements are finally implemented or the developer kinda forgets it....and then ED decides to reinvent the engine/graphics so back to weekly updates to get all the current modules to even operate correctly if the 3rd party developers are still in the game or have split up and of course all the promised vaporware modules that ......gee...never happen cause of all the usual excuses. And the one model developed sells for 49.00. Or develop 3-4 FC with matching maps/era's type modules each year for the many who will purchased for 29.00 each year but, sadly the few rivet counters/clickable insistent challenged will scoff and cry....but like it has been said a thousand times here....you don't have to purchase it....... If reality is what you desire and nothing else will suffice...I suggest saving your money and with the savings you will accumulate during your 3 year wait for the close approximation that a programmer thinks will portray their idea of what said module should fly like in a simulator.....then rent time in the actual aircraft once a year and get your fix. IMHO. Laz
  12. I purchased FC3 so long ago I had forgotten it. Will it upgrade FC2? Or is only compatible with DCS world 1.5xxxxxx? If I install it on the latest DCS world build, does it operate correctly or are there many bugs? Thanks Laz :D
  13. So, if you deactivate, make changes, reactivate....the software police will see a change has been made and cause an activation usage. No?

    Questions

Thanks for the explanations. See if I have this correct. A customer can purchase the "Early Access version. Is this version considered alpha/beta, open beta, released unfinished beta or what? The customer can purchase at any time any of these builds. Its difficult to determine what you are purchasing in the store. They all look like they are completed, finished, major bug free. ( I realize most software releases may have minor bugs.) I just looked at the E-shop (rather quickly) but did not see where or what version they are....as in alpha/beta/early/stable.....? LOL I still fly the demo and also FC2. I purchased FC3...Which version of world version can I use FC3 in? Thanks again. Laz

    Questions

DCS 1.5.7 goes to Open Beta today. It will be available for public in the next week. What does this mean, "Open Beta"? I am also confused with the term, "public" as used in this sense. If 1.57xxx is the stable build and I have purchased the Normandy map and add-on, the new map requires DCS World 2.0xxxx which is Alpha/Beta/early release (??) so it seems like both of these modules fall into the beta-tester-supporter early release(?) category. :noexpression: My concern, as mentioned in another post is testing a number of different computer configurations and losing all my activation's. If I have DCS World 2.0xxx installed and have all my modules activated I will be testing on software that is uncompleted and therefore unreliable to obtain any useful data and losing activation's. 1.57xx is also unfinished. I want to be able to test with Normandy. Does "Open Beta" mean it is a released/finished module and will support Normandy? But since it is labeled "1.57xx (?)  What does "Early Access" imply...one could conclude the definition is access to a released/completed software title earlier than the proposed release date. Open Alpha and other terms describing the state of software is confusing. I have invested more than $600.00 in DCS software and find very few modules completed or in a final/released/ whatever you call it, state. I look forward to 2.5 and sincerely hope it condenses all into a completed version, minus of course any added features/new modules. :smilewink: Laz :D
  16. Link still broken.
  17. So, I have a new system and want to change around a number of items...Video cards, cpu, memory, ssd to M2 and then to 3D XPoint, use 3 monitors then just use a 50"4k, then use my Oculus Rift....to test different configurations on DCS to get the best performance. So each time I will lose activation's ? Each module....I will run out.....I know ED updates one activation a month.......for each module?
  18. Mr. Bignewy, Please explain activation. If I make a major change in my system and de-activate all my modules before the change, and then activate after the change.....do I lose activation's on all the modules? I thought by deactivating first, you would not lose the activations. Thanks, Laz
  19. Do you lose activation's if you first de-activate before making changes. I thought if you deactivate and activate after changes, then you do not lose any...? Laz
  20. Cichlidfan, Thanks for the info. Wonder what was downloading. Laz
  21. What is the latest stable build? With that information, can I block any updates to that? How can I tell if my current build has been "auto-updated"? Several times when turning off this computer a warning box appears and states a file is still downloading and if I close now the file will be corrupted. The only program I know of on this computer is DCS that would start an auto-update....... so turning off the computer would corrupt the entire program....??? or just the update and if the update is not finished, nothing would change? Thanks Laz :D PS: Is there any way too check if a post has been deleted by an admin?
  22. What? In my opinion it is a game....of sorts....just like a lot of other flight-simulator- games. It caters to more realistic flight characteristics/equipment than others but it is still a game. I mean you fight against other aircraft, set up different scenarios of attacking/defending and now with tanks and ground troops and you do not include it, in the game category? Displaying critical rigid rules of what it takes to be part of DCS would turn most people off. I welcome any and all newcomers. Lets not discriminate against folks that are new to this or would like to try it...if we show bias towards new potential interested folks...we will end up with nothing. There are many talented members here who have contributed uncountable super interesting additions that make this simulator/game into what it is today and if we had discouraged them in their first encounter with this program it wouldn't be half of what it is. That's what this community/forum is about......helping new and older alike. If you are into pure flight simulator, there are commercial simulators that are available. They do not however include the friendly/co-operative gaming experience that DCS and its members offer. Laz
  23. Thanks guys, should have known there would be some sort of semantics differences. Thanks for the links.
  24. I have not loaded any operating system on the new system...have not even turned it on yet...but should I load Windows 10 or load Win 7 Ultimate?
  25. I really did not want to fire up the new system yet. I have purchased and downloaded most of the modules for DCS but have not activated them. I did not want to go through the trouble of moving them over and going through the starforce/change any hardward deal. Seems like there are a few folks that have experienced trouble after activate/deactivate. Also seems like a lot of rework on the new releases. I will wait until 2.1 becomes stable...I waited this long...lol while I built several systems prematurely and they sit in limbo. I will enjoy what I have now. Am anxious to try my VR. My new system is i76700 on a Isus Z-170, 32gb ram, 500gb ssd, 256gb M-2, 1TB hdd, Two Evga 1080TI, CM Storm case, 1200w Evga Platinum ps, Corsair water pump, DVD. Oculus Rift, Sony 4k 50" monitor. I purchased the Z-170 mb. The z-270 came out. Did not seem like it was worth moving to that. I did however upgrade the two GTX EVGA 1080 FTW's to the two 1080TI's. Hope 2.5 arrives before I have too upgrade again. Lazduc
