I agree wholeheartedly! A testament to the developers. We can fly aircraft like the Mig 21, with very much "direct" flight control and then fly the Mirage with what must be one of the very finest FBW implementations! I too have just purchased the Mirage. Try going straight from the Mig 21 to the Mirage and you will "feel" the difference. This is a beautiful simulation, thanks Razbam! Looking forward to the Harrier:smilewink: Best regards David

I hope the fixes for the Belougas are done. The DCS weapon of choice for the Mirage verses tanks must be the LGB with some JTAC in proximity! But we do have the Moljnir 90 stand off dispenser on the Viggen, very effective against tank columns and a selectable program available from the cockpit! Cheers!

I have also just bought the Mirage. Chuck's guide is superb. I use the X55 and try to go with what's mapped in the actual aircraft. Landing is a marvellous experience into the world of Fly By Wire! Her is a clip from Chuck's guide. https:// Landing is all about AOA and glide slope. Cheers.

I am afraid this doesn't install correctly into my 1.5.6 ? The aircraft skin is all a mixture of jumbled up patterns? Or is this just me? I am on Windows 7. Regards David no

Thanks guys. I read the guide and did it by the book from a home made mission. All OK!! When I went back to the scripted training mission, it worked. So I guess it was just a new install glitch! Now back to the book! What a beauty!!

Just purchased the Mirage. Went through the start up training. Naturally wanted to take her up...unfortunately aircraft stuck on ramp? Yes hand brake is off wheel brake released, just no movement, even with full burner?? Is this just my unlucky first attempt? Anyone else seen this? Cheers David

Thanks chaps. The black toggle completely escaped me! Lights were on inside the left handle and the flames lasted all the way back to base, about 10 minutes flying time:cry: So it's pull the fire handle and click the toggle? The port vertical stabilizer should really have burned off, I guess I was just lucky! Thanks again. Cheers.:D

It's in the sale at the moment, is on my buy list! Apart from it's interceptor ability I've been looking at it's ground attack. Apparently we can use a JTAC to laze a Target and drop some GBU's. It would be nice to do that in a M+1.0 capable aircraft!:D Also we can navigate by Ins using data cartridge (like Viggen) and add waypoints (like Viggen). However we can also navigate by Tacan and VOR (unlike the Viggen). Also anyone who is building a Harrier sim gets my money! We are getting a nice historical spread of aircraft in DCS now. Cheers David

I just flew a mission where I had a left engine fire after getting ground fire. Couldn't stop the flames from the damaged engine. I had pulled left fire handle, left engine thrust lever off, left fuel pumps off. I assumed the engine was shutdown? Now I must have missed a step due to the continued flames all the way back to base

Yes, dispensers are visible in external view. The beta patch was supposed to be the same as 1.5.6 release and 2.0, so I havnt a clue what happened. Pity, my Mig's a sitting duck now! Like you say, everyone can get different results from these patches. Cheers David
-
The strange thing is, before the patch I am pretty sure I could use the sliders to adjust the chaff flare mix. Now its just greyed out and inoperable. If the dispensers are fitted in the weapons load out screen, that part of the menu should be active, shouldn't it? Once in the aircraft, the two CB's for electrically arming the dispensers (also shared with the JATO rockets) are closed. I will experiment some more tomorrow. But with neither the dispensers or the ECM pod able to work, the Mig 21 is as vulnerable as the L39. At least in my install for now. Cheers.

I did a repair with the Starforce protection key problem. Spent Sunday evening messing with the darn thing. Even posted a ticket to support. Eventually following posts on the forum got the Mig back to a running state. Apart from the missing chaff and flares I think the updates are on. I did notice the roll rate has altered from before. Its now faster than BMS Falcon, I mean it's silly fast, more like an arcade game than a simulator??? Very annoying! I am really dubious now about updating anything in future, if it ain't broke for me I won't fix it! Looks like its only me who has lost the chaff and flares? Btw, the ECM pod still doesn't seem to work either. I just tested that against a SA8 and got toasted! Regards David
-
Just tried NTTR 2.0. Same result! Chaff/Flares are greyed out in weapons load out. Yes drop cover was open. I have the new patch for the Mig 21, in both versions, I think something broke the countermeasures?
-
Its the latest patch for 1.5.6 = 1.5.6330. I have double checked and no flares/chaff, even with the SPS141-100 Pod attached. The flares/chaff are greyed out in weapons??
-
Is this just me, or have the ASo-2 Chaff and Flares gone from the weapons load out? I had them working before the update? Regards David
-
Not fixed from my trial today. Attacked a destroyer and 2 tankers with the RB4e and got good results, so that weapon works well.:) RB15 no joy! Also the AI wingmen do not comply with any attack orders, with either missile? Regards to all.

Many thanks for this. My Mig 21 had stopped working after the update to the latest DCS 1.5.6 Hope it works in 2.0? Edit. I updated without reading this forum. This resulted in an hour of trying to get it to work and a ticket to support, who replied almost immediately. So I guess the moral is read the forum first and install updates second! Anyway thanks again, seems like a good update After all! Cheers David

Double thanks....:-) So need to carry pods! So only two weapons per aircraft! Or dice with death at 10 meters altitude, or dice with death from the SAMs. Interesting that I can complete this mission with one Hog or one Black Shark, but require a flight of Viggens.....great sim! Best regards David Ps...next I am going to try it in the Mig 21....;)

Thanks again. It seems grunf was correct. Whilst I had Easy Comms off in the main menu, I had Easy Comms selected in the mission editor. So I learned that the mission editor overrides the main menu selection. With easy comms de selected in both, I had full comms with the AI wingman. Now the next thing is to figure out how to talk to JTAC? Since the original mission employed JTAC to give Coordinates of the Smerch units. BTW, how do you dispense chaff and flares without the KB/U22 pods fitted? There are flares and chaff loaded on the munitions load out editor. I have fast dispense assigned to a button on my stick and the switch on the left side canopy set to intermittent? If I fit the pods and loose two pylons I am requiring a flight of 4 to hit all the targets. Cheers David
-
Thanks guys. I have easy comms off in the main options. I will re check what's in the mission options. Does the main options not override everything? Anyway I will check. I am on the no 1 channel. I tried the default and with no key pressed, but comms still blacked out. Thanks I will try again tomorrow. Cheers. Btw. I have a couple of videos of this mission, which is a beefed up version of the original. One with the Hog and one with the Ka50. The Viggen needs a wingman to deliver extra ordinance on the 4th Smersh unit. Since number 4 has serious AAA and SA18, you have to be using either stand off munitions or a wingman coordinated attack! With 4 targets, the singleton Viggen has a hard time!;)

Sorry for bringing this up if a known issue. I recently substituted the Viggen for the Hog in the Smerch Hunt mission. A favourite of mine and I always try different aircraft and weapons to see what's possible, by substituting them in this mission. With the Viggen my wingman is unable to do anything except fly in formation? The radio is set correctly 127.5 AM, comms position number 1 selected. My AI wingman comms are black texted. I have no way of communicating with him? Is this due to my using the Viggen in a mission originally scripted for a different aircraft, or is it a Viggen radio problem? The mission does work with many other modules. Regards David
-
It would be nice if these could be updated in 1.5.6 and 2.0? Please ED! I guess the Normandy map must be taking precedence? Incidentally, are we all aware that Normandy will not have any radio beacons, so that only our Viggen will be capable of accurate navigation, autonomously! The Hog/Ka50 need satellites for GPS, so shouldn't work in Normandy? I wonder what else may work......?:music_whistling: Regards, David

I recently bought the Mig 21 in the Fatherland sale, now I can't stop flying it! She's a beauty and a beast....and a very entertaining module!:D Regards David

These are interesting objective observations based upon written manuals. I was completely unaware of these when I bought the Mig 21. However how many of us has actually flown a Mig 21, either in combat or in a circuit? I can only apply my subjective experience of flying the Mig 21 in this simulator. This experience is a wholly satisfying one and apart from an error noticed with the Gyro verses Fixed sight mechanism, doesn't detract from the "game" experience. Note the emphasis on game. Whilst I like to delude myself (in my old age) that I can fly a Mig 21, I am in no doubt that ultimately, I am flying a simulated aircraft, in a game. I fear that if the developers were tasked to produce a simulation capable of satisfying the subjective experience of a real world Mig 21 pilot, the cost of the module would be beyond my reach? A similar circumstance exists in the FSX/P3d "game" world. Here the makers of an Airbus ask for a large fee for their simulation, based upon the premise that it's a real world simulation experience, albeit in a simulation that specifies its not for real world pilot training and per se, a game. I applaud the striving for realism, but acknowledge the limitations of the platform. Regards David

On your right side you have 73 switches and circuit breakers. In front of you you have a combination of 97 switches, circuit breakers and instruments. On your left side you have 77 switches and circuit breakers, including your throttle and engine controls. Nearly all of these have functionality. I bought this aircraft in the recent Fatherland sale. I haven't been able to stop flying it!:D Totally addictive!:joystick: As a historic aircraft it perhaps has no equal. Designed over 60 years ago and capable of Mach 2+ on a single engine! If you like challenging flight simulations (as well as all the features of the DCS Mission planner) then this is one for you. Plan some missions with the GCI units and you can recreate some accurate scenarios. Even test the theory that it only takes 60 seconds from entering the cockpit to scramble.;) Regards, David
