Agree in real life those six 50 cals were fearsome! The Jug is a legend, but the Typhoon and Tempest were British so I am unashamedly biased!! I just think the 50 cals are a bit weak in DCS, but then again, I am hopeless at hitting the AI fighters anyway, so I am a perpetual Mud Mover....However four 20 mm Cannons would be very nice! Like an early version of the Hog's GAU? Regards.

Pity about the mirror! Not that it would help me much, I always get bounced by Mustangs and end up in the silk! But what a great bail out animation! Aha! That's sorted out the radio commands! Not that my AI wingmen are much use covering my arse! The mixed load out is a pity, but the cannons make up for the loss of rockets. I am definitely more at home as a Mud Mover in WW2 aircraft, dogfighting in the FW190 escapes my ability. Thanks for the info. Best Regards.

I wasn't sure if this is a bug report or just my ineptitude, so I thought I would ask here. When Rockets and Bomb is loaded I can not fire the rockets. Bomb will release but no rockets. When taking off radio menu is available. After take off I can not select the radio menu? Wingman is herd but I cant communicate? This is regardless of whether easy comms is on or off? There is a "Mirror left glance" RWin+N, but no mirror in the cockpit? Thanks David

During practise, in preparation for Normandy, in the DCS WW2 aircraft I have, namely Spitfire, Mustang, Me 109 and the Dora, I think there is something missing? (Understatement) Can we please have a Typhoon or a Tempest? By the Normandy landings in June 1944, 2 TAF had 18 operational squadrons of Typhoon IBs, while Air Defence Great Britain (ADGB) had a further nine. The aircraft proved itself to be the most effective RAF tactical strike aircraft, on interdiction raids against communications and transport targets deep in North Western Europe prior to the invasion and in direct support of the Allied ground forces after D-Day. The Tempest was an improved derivative of the Typhoon the type originally being known as the Typhoon II, which was intended to address the Typhoon's unexpected fall-off of performance at high altitude by replacing its wing with a thinner laminar flow design. The Tempest successfully targeted the rail infrastructure in Germany and Luftwaffe aircraft on the ground, as well as countering such attacks by German fighters. The Tempest was effective in the low-level interception role, including against newly developed jet propelled aircraft such as the Messerschmitt 262. So wish list order; 1. Hawker Typhoon; 412 mph (663 km/h) at 19,000 ft (5,485 m) with Sabre IIB & 4-bladed propeller. 510 mi (821 km) 35,200 ft (10,729 m) 2,740 ft/min (13.59 m/s) Guns: 4 × 20 mm Hispano 11 Cannon!!! Rockets: 8 × unguided air-to-ground rockets. Bombs: 2 × 500 lb (227 kg) or 2 × 1,000 lb (454 kg). 2. Hawker Tempest; 432 mph (695 km/h) Sabre IIA at 18,400 ft (5,608 m), Sabre IIB 435 mph at 19,000 ft (700 km/h at 5,791 m) 740 mi (1,190 km) 1,530 mi (2,462 km) with 90 gal (409 l) drop tanks 36,500 ft (11,125 m) 4,700 ft/min (23.9 m/s) Guns: 4 × 20 mm (.79 in) Mk 2 Hispano Cannons!!! , 200 rpg. Later models used Mk V Hispano Cannons. Bombs 2 × 500 lb (227 kg) or 1,000 lb (454 kg) bombs Rockets 8 × 3 in (76.2 mm) rockets (post-Second World War) Provision for 2 × 45 gal (205 l) or 2 × 90 gal (409 l) drop tanks 3. P47 Thunderbolt. (already mooted in the pipeline, but we are still stuck with 50 cal machine guns!) 4. Messerschmitt 262! At present, the only aircraft capable of taking on the Wehrmacht Tanks, is the Mustang. Given the early release state of the Spitfire, I would rather use the Mustang against the Luftwaffe! Best Regards David

Useful experience! As a DCS Jet pilot transitioning to WW2 Props ready for Normandy, any tips are useful. Taking off is my problem! Landing is fine! I can say, from my experience, that DCS has nailed some of the complex forces at work here. I must quote the CFI Instructor here and concur that I am feeling these effects. "When you raise the tail, you are effectively rotating the prop disc (the plane in which the propeller rotates) so that the lower half of the disc moves backward, and the upper half moves forward. The laws of “gyroscopic precession” rule that a rotating mass (i.e. the prop disc), when displaced in such a fashion will displace or “precess” that moment through 90 degrees in the direction of rotation. If you can’t dig that, put more simply it means that in the case of a propeller turning clockwise when viewed from the cockpit, raising the tail and therefore forcing the prop disc into a new plane, will have the effect of the same prop disc trying very hard to twist through 90 degrees. The result is a very strong force which will yaw the aircraft to the left. It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand this, you just need to know it happens. " The only way for me, is at Max combat weight (no bomb), I open throttle smoothly to full, dance on the rudders like a maniac on hot coals, when the tail comes up, forward stick keeping main gear down until she tells me she wants to fly straight, then gear up, (never tried flaps) and get as fast as possible in the shortest time.:joystick: Bravo DCS, these warbirds are a helluva handful!:D Cheers David

I am currently "typing" on the Spit, Me109, FW190 and the Mustang. Ready for the arrival of Normandy!:D I have to say I am disappointed by the sound of the dcs Spit? I have spent quite a bit of time in and around airfields and airshows. The sound of the Merlin in a Spit or Hurricane is enough to make my hair (what's left) stand up! Whilst the modelling of the dcs WW2 fighters is good, the sound in my honest opinion is not. In fact I can't tell the difference between the FW190 and the Spit? Nevermind, can't have everything:music_whistling: Regards David

Thinking ahead to the Normandy map. The Me 109 and FW190 both use the single frequency homing beacon, part of the radio receiver. Frequency set in the mission planner. Since post D-Day, the Germans were relocating to different airfields and grass strips, as the allies advanced. I guess they used the homing beacon regularly. Certainly for us sim pilots any nav aid is welcome, without cheating and peeking at the F10 map or the kneeboard!:smilewink: Wags has hinted that grass fields will be available in the Normandy mission planner, in future. I think it would be nice to have a mobile radio homer, at those grass strips. It would add a lot to mission making in Normandy. But again, we know the Russians use mobile RSBN to re locate to newly captured airfields. If you were to add make shift grass strips in missions, finding these without some form of radio help would be difficult! But there again, it's how they did it back in the day. Interesting times ahead.:D Cheers David.

Hey Max, do you think you can do a few beacons for the Normandy map when it's out later this month? It would be nice to fly the L39 about in Normandy!:D Obviously there were no beacons historically, but Wags has shown videos of SU25/27 zooming over the map, so it got my imagination going! Eventually, when we get the fully integrated install, we will only need to put the beacons.lua in one terrains folder?:smilewink: Regards David

Based on the Smerch Hunt mission, this time flying the Mirage 2000C in a Hot Zone. Enemy air is operating as Mig 29s over the final target. Targets (*4) Lased by JTAC and increasing in difficulty due to increased SAM/AAA threats. On call CAP/SEAD and AWACs available, using both radios. Could you ensure mission success and survive? Mission file available to download from DCS User Files. Search "herky".
-
Absolutely! The enemy air consists of L39's (*2) and Hinds(*2). The challenge is in the SAMs and the weather. Although, conversely, the low cloud deck helps you get out of the SA13s WEZ:D If you substitute the L39's with Mig 29s, it becomes a different story! Regards David

Speaking personally the Mirage is one of my favourite DCS simulations. There is one thing that I find disconcerting. The roll rate appears to be the same whether fully loaded with air to ground or air to air. I seem to have very high roll rates at all altitudes with a full bomb load, I wonder if this could be looked at? The flight manual says; Charges Mode Limits load factor for the elevator elastic stop to 5.5 g (± 0.5 g). Audio warning when alpha >= 20º. The pilot must abide to this limit by himself. Limits pilot roll command based on load factor. Limits roll angular speed to 150º/sec. It certainly doesn't take me over two seconds to complete a full 360 roll. Best regards David EDIT. Whilst this may not be a complete solution, I have managed to get a roll rate of around 150 degrees per second by adjusting the Axis X Tune. My setting of 75% saturation with 10 curvature, produces results that give me the illusion I have inertia in roll! My stick is a Saitek X55. So your results may vary. But its better now on my plastic joystick! If you want the full monty of 270 degrees per second, the saturation needs to go back up.

 Thanks again! Always forget the obvious thing, must be me having another senior moment!:music_whistling: Best regards David

If anyone fancies a quick single mission, with some low visibility flying, I have uploaded this mission to DCS User Files. It's under " herky". Here's the movie! BTW, if you want to really test your AA skills, try substituting the L39's for Mig29/SU27, armed with Archers!....:smilewink: Regards to all. David

Many thanks. Have you a link to your manual, I thought I had the latest? Incidentally, I noticed that the INS will auto switch to next waypoint, during the flight, provided the master arm and air to ground weapons are not armed. I believe the auto waypoint update is disabled if your armed? Thanks once again. Regards David

A follow up to my Mission Not Impossible 1, flown in the Viggen. Here the mission is flown in the Mirage 2000c. Although not a pure air to ground aircraft, here it's ample attributes are displayed. Same low visibility, fog, with cloud deck at 6000. The target, a column, is defended by SA13, so the weather can be your friend! I have uploaded both missions to DCS user files to share. If you want a greater air to air challenge, just substitute the L39 for a Mig29 or Su27:smilewink: The excellent JTAC Lat/Long mod is used and boy is it useful in the Mirage! (Not to mention the Viggen!) Cheers. David

I have a couple of questions on the Ins. On page 77 of the manual, under ALCN, it says "see INS Alignment." I can't seem to find INS Alignment anywhere? So I am not sure what ALCN is. Does the INS radar position update work? I read that this is not functional and that the "fly over" INS update works even if your not directly over the waypoint feature, just "near" it? I tried to do an offset waypoint attack and attempted a radar waypoint update at the IP, but couldn't seem to get it right? My offset target point was off by several hundred feet. I am not sure whether to use the special menu and just use the always aligned and zero drift feature, if the update features are not 100%. Finally, when passing a waypoint, I don't seem to get an auto waypoint change to the next waypoint, I must enter the next waypoint manually and the range, eta, ground speed functions are only selectable when I have the "prep" button set to the current active waypoint? Regards to all. David

Looking at this video, seems to me that if you took the Viggen's Moljnir and re modelled it to be cylindrical, the result would be very similar? Just remove the glide and guidance parameters. But I don't code so I am just speculating:music_whistling: At the moment there is only the Mk 82 high drag bomb that I use in CCIP with any effectiveness.
-
Thank guys,I have been learning the M2k after the Viggen and even trying to use the obl/fi INS update after inputting offset waypoint target coordinates seemed I was doing something wrong! Now I see that it's a bug I can regain my sanity! Incidentally, I see the automatic waypoint change has stopped working on this particular mission I am working on. For those interested it's the "Mission not impossible" video on my you tube channel, flown in the Viggen. I was attempting to fly the same mission in the M2k.;) When finished I was going to upload it to "user files". The mission is very difficult due to the enemy being in a valley, defended by SAM/AAA and in fog with low cloud deck!:D I chose the INS attack with 82's but can't get the accuracy yet? Regards to all. David

+1 It's a very difficult skill to master sat in front of a monitor, in an office chair with a couple of plastic joysticks, with only so many hours in a day! Perhaps it would be easier with an Occulus Rift? But that's just me blaming the tools!:joystick: I see You Tube videos of a guy refuelling the M2k from a boom? As well as from a Russian tanker? Make of that what you will.:smilewink: I for one console myself in the knowledge that I can fly over the entire two map regions, completing all missions without needing to refuel. If I had to carry a centerline tank, I had just better be more accurate with the ordinance I have on board! Regards

Recently I ejected from my aircraft after a SAM hit. I jumped into my AI wingman's aircraft via F10. Now checking his knee board all radio frequencies did not match the mission planner frequencies for the Mirage? All were in the high band UHF range. Worse still, his GBU Bombs did not show as being loaded, only the Magic and 530's could be selected. Both my aircraft and wingman's has same load out. Is this just something I did wrong or is it an AI bug? That will teach me not to cheat death!:music_whistling: Regards David

If it can drop a CBU they should work. The Bk90 looks good, especially if you record it and play back in slow motion!:D I did a video with the Viggen-bk90 recently, looks cool. But the best effect I have seen in DCS is the cbu 97 from the A10, chutes deploy, armour detected, rocket motors deploy and the darts shoot the tanks, it's really a nicely coded effect! Since the Mirage is my latest girlfriend I would like to see her with all the accessories!;) Regards to all. I am using both Chuck's guide and the DCS manual. Check out all the video links in Chuck's guide:thumbup: I use a Voice Interaction program called Voice Attack. It's only a few $ and gives you a complete voice controlled interface with every switch in the cockpit. Since in DCS we can assign a complete HOTAS from the controls menu, we can also assign commands to Voice Attack. For realism you can just use Voice Attack for all the radio commands. Although I admit to using it for weapons. You can even get it to run macros, several commands consecutively. I haven't yet got my VR set, but using Voice Attack eliminates the need to click anything in the cockpit. Just say whatever you want...."Magic Select" "Master Arm on"...Etc. I have been flying simulators since I retired some years ago. This Mirage simulation is the best I have experienced. Thanks Razbam......:D Regards David

Just purchased the Mirage, what a beauty! I was wondering if there is a way of getting the JTAC coordinates in decimal lat/long, instead of MRGS? Using JTAC with our LGB's is a superb feature, however MRGS is only useful in the Hog. I have tried a conversion calculator, but it just gives errors at the MRGS entry? With our INS waypoint system the JTAC is an interesting feature to add in the mission planner. Regards, David

I am doing a video series, on different DCS aircraft, in a mission based on the Smerch Hunt for the Hog. The mission has added random AAA and Sam defending the four Smerch units. JTAC feature when available and SEAD can be called. Here's the latest in our faithful Frogfoot. A low cost big return sim. It may not have the high fidelity of some modules but can still provide a satisfying experience.:D So far I have covered the Hog, Black Shark, Viggen and Mig 21. Next up will be the M2k. :pilotfly: Thank you devs for this superb developing simulator!:) Regards David
