I have completed Red Flag twice and then started this Campaign, so I am doing it the wrong way around! Needless to say this campaign is also brilliant! My old favourite aircraft used to be the Hog, but now all I fly is the "Charlie". Thanks again BD..:) Only the last mission #13 left for this run. But the nice thing about these campaigns is that you can alter the parameters yourself. Even substitute airframes for a greater or lesser challenge!:smilewink: I love flying the Charle especially in Baltics campaigns. So I added a few things to the final mission, for my own pleasure! It's about Berger's rescue!

Yes, well said. I have completed this campaign for a second time and must say second time around I am a better Mirage pilot! Not to mention feeling that I actually fly for Arme de l'air! Re mission. 11, I think it highlights how difficult it is to get the Matra Magic's to lock a Gazelle. This may be quite accurate! Certainly the 9x is a more sensitive seeker and can be off boresighted! But we can't swap the Mirage c for a Hornet in the campaign. If you do a scenario mission with the Hornet and 9x the outcome is interesting! But I love the "Charle"! I wish BD would do another campaign for her! Regards. David

Attack armoured column with GBU12. Auto selected. JTAC lasing targets. All GBU's gone. Switch to Mk 20's. Switch from Auto to CCIP. HUD does not change from auto mode. Reset arm, does not work, CCIP not available to Rockeyes, the weapons system can not recognise the change of mode from Auto to CCIP. Its stuck in previous GBU12, Auto mode.
-
They surely should all be warned up and ready to fire at the same time. The GBU12 should not persist after a rearm with no GBU12. Has anyone noticed the Maverick will lock onto none armoured targets occasionally? I get locks on to trees and other objects sometimes when slewing the gates around. On another note, I'd like the Rockeyes to be a bit more effective against armor. At the moment, they look pretty but don't do much! Oh for a CBU97!:music_whistling:
-
The Rockeye on the Hornet with (supposedly) 247 Mk 118 Mod 1 bomblets, is not very effective against armour.. ? Any chance of the CBU 97? Or could the effectiveness of the Rockeye be looked at please? Cheers.
-
Previous sortie had 2 AGM 65F, 4 GBU12 and a Mk 20 centreline. After re arm, with 4 AGM 65F and a single Mk 20, GBU 12 still shown on DDI Stores page. Its as if the weapons system still sees GBU 12's. On the Hog you re initialise the system. I wonder if its not re initialising here?
-
Re arming with 4 AGM 65 F, can not select the missiles. Step doesn't work. Can not Uncage them. Previous sortie had 2 AGM 65F, 4 GBU12 and a Mk 20 centreline. After re arm, with 4 AGM 65F and a single Mk 20, GBU 12 still shown on DDI Stores page. DCS Full version 2.5.4.27430 Thanks

Tonka has just been taken off front line in UK. If you do a Tornado simulation then go for a GR4. If you include Stormshadow (as standoff weapon, that kills targets from GPS coordinates) Brimstone (similar to the Maverick E, self lazed or via JTAC) and full weapons officer simulation,( like the RIO in the Tomcat!), it will be a winner! Oh, then add terrain following radar...500 knots at 50'....not many SAM's are going to bother you. But of course it's all wishful thinking on my part! Cheers.

Thanks Grizzly. ED has definitely changed this! My old missions don't work as previously. The key is to set the Advanced WP "embark" at spawn point of the helo. Not at the pick up wp as before. Trouble is I get a DCS crash every time...? Auto crash log sent in. So it still doesn't work for me. The change has broken my missions.

My second Red Flag in the Charlie. Apart from a couple of missing approach calls and minor trigger glitches (not seen in the first Red Flag I flew back in October 2018, possibly due to DCS updates?) the overall experience was the same. A thoroughly immersive experience the second time around. It does DCS credit. It does the Mirage team credit. it does Baltic Dragon credit. It will test the pilots ability to fly the Charlie properly and earn your Red Flag "patch". That last mission departing for home, actually left me with a lump in my throat! It felt that real! Best regards David

#15 OK. Everything spot on . Got all 4 Gun Dish and both Gazelles. Score 60/100? Why only 60? Would have thought 100/100...!;) Take a peek at the attached photo! These Mirages were "dumped" on the way to parking F154..? Perhaps as a reminder of what could happen...LOL! Regards.
-
Thanks BD. Here's another quirky one. Mission 14. All OK as far as messages that defector is intending to land. ( Pass ok at 3500' AGL gear down etc.) However F-16 goes 20 NM South of runway and circles at 12000'.? He never lands! (Treachery!!) I stayed as long as I dared...Fuel low...Thought about shooting him down??But didn't! LOL! Anyway I RTB and landed. Got Mission Successful park up at F134. I shut down and saw score 100/70. That's with two kills AA. Also, (Minor thing) parking F134 is occupied with a fuel tanker and a Humvee! The approach call worked on this one. Regards David

Uncage AA Missile causes DCS to crash. I have sent an auto crash report in. Thanks

Hi BD. Nope! All wingmen got the chop to the Mistrals! They are Daemons for sure! Now, I just did Mission 13. Score 30/80? I got all the parked aircraft with rockets. Got half of the enemy truck convoy to the north. Even got the Chinook with guns! Spectacular. Problems were; Wingman wouldn't attack primary and re-join. (Must have been frightened by the Man Pad! LOL) He wouldn't attack the truck convoy and wouldn't attack the Chinook (as Bandits) He bugged out early and headed for RTB. That's A.I for you!!! Approach was missing again. No message to hit space bar. Landed 21L. No message to switch to ground and no mission complete message. My lousy score was a mystery? Given the targets I destroyed. I swear that I herd Sunray say I had missed the Chinook? I may have misheard that as a hit, but I wasn't recording it , so couldn't be sure. On Mission stats I got the kill and on Tacview I got the Chinook. Going back to the previous mission. I flew as ATIS information, which seemed correct, given wind 300 at 10. After landing I taxied the full length of 03R/21L so if there was a trigger zone there I must have gone through it? Hope this helps. Regards David
-
To BD. Just flew Mission 12. I had no Approach contact from ATC at WP 7. Also after landing, following information from ATIS to use runway 03R and 03L (in USE, since wind 300 at 10+), there was no call to change to tower, no call to change to ground and no mission completed message. I exited on Alpha as usual, but I guess the trigger did not work? I quit out and got a score of 0, mission 100. In spite of one Mig29 kill? Possible I missed a step here and there? I find the Dryad is still a bit out. Authenticate DT, Max replies X-Ray, I think it should be Yankee? But doesn't affect the mission anyway. Regards David

I can confirm I need radio assists selected for wingman/flight comms to work in Red Flag. Double checked and the frequencies are correct.:( My own missions are hit and miss. I can never manually tune anything and ATC doesn't talk to me? I need easy comms on before anything works properly. I have been enjoying mission 11.:smilewink:. Definitely a real challenge! The landing runway 21 is very dicey with that 22 knot tail/crosswind. I crashed the Mirage twice trying to land on 21. With invulnerability off, the landing puts years on ya! The aircraft is very light at the end of #11, with minimal fuel and zero weapons, so that landing is fraught. Perhaps better to ask ATC for runway 3? I doubt anyone would choose 21 in reality?:music_whistling: After finding a way to overcome those helicopter feinds, (classified!) I wonder about the effectiveness of those Mistrals versus our Matra Magic's? :music_whistling: :pilotfly:
-
Just to confirm. I was too high to get the "saddle" call, so my fault. I was too early to get the ATC Approach call, need to have better timing. If I don't have "radio assists" turned on in DCS menu, I can not communicate with wingmen/flight. Thus, in #10, I couldn't get anyone to go radar on, etc. AWACs was also unavailable for picture or bogey dope. So I needed radio assists on, but not "easy comms", which needs to be off in this Red Flag. In mission #10, I managed to down both "enemy" Mirages...got one with guns! The score at the end of mission was 130! In this rare example of good airmanship, it would have been nice to hear Max saying something like, "hey, your almost as good as me"! Or me saying to the guys that I'm buying in the 'o' club tonight!:D Off topic a little. I don't know what they have done with realistic comms for the Mirage? I can't get any comms at all in any missions I create? The only way to get any comms is to go "easy comms" in main menu? The comms in Red Flag are always impeccable! Anyway, on to #11.

Very cool! I am a novice mission planner, but is there a way to place a moving zone on a target? Say on the Il-76, that would detect an incoming missile? Today I did #9 and #10. I will need to do #10 again! I did not get a "saddled" call from the Tornados. That led to total confusion as I engaged the Migs and then the two Mirages. The Tornadoes were successful but I got no RTB Knock it off call? Subsequently, I got the "saddled" call as I was on finals! So I ejected and scrubbed the mission. I will re fly tomorrow and try and keep close to the Tornadoes in the Sally corridor. I think I was probably a bit too far from them on route to wp2? Without the saddled call, probably everything else went Apex up? Cheers.

Roger that. I'll let you know if I see anything else. I am on the latest DCS update, full version. It's great that each time you fly Red Flag the missions play out differently. This one was a puzzle until I reviewed Tacview. Metal F-16 shooting down my target was unknown to me until I Tacviewed it? When I scored 0 and 100 for mission success, I knew someone else had chalked up my kill?:music_whistling: I wondered if ED had altered the kill efficiency of the 530's? Two hits should have downed my target? Thinking about it, Metal should have called Fox 3, but I guess the AI hasn't quite got that level of development? Those F-16's certainly go after everything in sight and you have to be quick before they mop up everything!:smilewink: Regards David Edit. Thinking about it, this is how a Red Flag should be. Only in the debrief, when everyone sits down and reviews Tacview, do you know what happened, what went wrong and what went right? Good stuff!

Just noticed a couple of anomalies, that are different in Red Flag this time around, since October when I first flew it. I'm on latest DCS World, full version. In mission 7 and 8 the Approach frequency is correctly tuned, but after "space" bar is pressed (inside 5 miles) there is no acknowledgement from Approach. This doesn't affect the outcome, the mission is credited as usual after landing, (ground freq is ok)but just thought I'd mention it. Also and this isn't a mission planners fault, in mission #8, I hit the Il-76 AGR Jammer with both Matra 530's and it was still flying! Finished it off with guns, but Metal 2-2 stole my kill by killing it with an Amram! Bloomin' cheeky! LOL! Needless to say, by the time we got north all the Fulcrums had been nailed by the F-16's and their Amrams! :( I guess those Il-76's are tough old birds.....My score was 0, mission 100. So only got part of the Il-76 since the Metal Bird got credited with the kill! Great Campaign this....can be re played and always see something different each time! Regards David

I recently flew the Mig after about a year. Something has changed regarding the controls. My previous HOTAS profile doesn't work. The wheekbrake and rudder don't steer (except in the training mission?). The SAU didn't work from HOTAS, neither from keyboard. The brake chute won't deploy. So in the last 12 months something has altered with the Mig and I don't know what? The controls menu correctly shows the buttons are being pushed on my stick and throttle, but in the sim they don't work? I hope when they update it, someone can beta test it properly. I think they forget about these older modules and concentrate on the new money spinners!

Yes, love the Mig 21's ability to be dangerous! Both to enemy pilots and yourself! It's the fastest way to circumnavigate our DCS World maps. If/when it gets a face lift, can the cockpit canopy be cleaned please. This is an aircraft that uses our mk1 eyeball to track enemy targets. On a monitor, any specks of muck look like possible targets! Spasiba!

Hi, your correct regarding the coords given; Trucks n35.34.71 w116.11.85 and n37.34.81 w116.11.95 Command vehicles n37.34.86 w116.11.74 I have just flown this mission. I inputted the command vehicles as new WP #4. The target cross in the HUD is definitely south of the illuminated zone and close to the civilian town of Adhen. If you align the INS manually with the full 8 minutes alignment, (parking brake on, wait for alignment to finish before moving the aircraft) all the waypoints should be correct. However the target coords are interpreted by the Mirage's INS as being slightly south. I don't think its INS drift, since we have only been flying for 30 minutes or so, before we attack. I think its just a glitch in the Mirage's HUD targeting symbology not getting accurate input from the INS? With this mission, I look at the recce photos and the small group of command trucks are located north of the targets and north of where the river divides into two. You should see Chevy 8 bomb the vehicles and your job is to mop up the remaining vehicles. I ran out of rockets this time, so strafed the couple of remaining vehicles. To be honest, Chevy 7/8 should do the job for you, provided you have sent in the SEAD flight first! Recommend you look at the mission in Tacview, its amazing what goes on! Hope that helps a bit. The enemy fighters are best left to our escort. If you get distracted and take them on, you will get short of fuel rather quickly. Regards David
-
Thanks Baltic, that clarifies things. The wingmen probably did run out of fuel then? It was after I watched Tacview that I saw the Tornadoes veer off their approach and "buzz" our returning flight! Three of them flew into the ground afterwards! I bet you wish you had more control over the AI aircraft? Looking back at Tacview, I only got 1 Mig29! Tacview reveals a lot. Once again thanks for a great campaign! I am enjoying it as much as the first time I did it back in October. By the time anyone has flown it a few times, they are surely and proficiently "type rated" on this super little fighter! Regards David

OK so just landed after a totally successful night mission. Even shot down a couple of Migs myself! Problem was, on approach to Nellis, three wingmen ejected (for no apparent reason?) Max...eject...crash ...Guizmo eject...crash.. Piff...eject...crash?? Looking at Tacview, Max was attempting to refuel when he crashed? Guizmo and Piff crashed on approach to Nellis, by diving into the ground. To be fair there were a couple of Tornado's that decided to buzz our approaching flight. Perhaps this caused the crashes? To remove the AI threat on approach, if there was a zone around Nellis that de activated approaching flights, excepting our own, then there may be less conflict on approach? I cant think of another way to stop the AI shenanigans! In real life you could attribute blame to the ATC and the Tornado pilots. But in DCS we can just throw up our hands and blame the AI!!! Question is, would I have scored 100 if the wingmen hadn't crashed? Aw well, back to the "o" club! Score=50 Results=100 Regards David
