  1. why limit ourselves eh? In fact....I've got a few minutes to spare...here's my 'imagine if...' flight of fancy: 1. DCSW is modelled to include the whole world - similar to how its done in FSX. Obviously DCSW only creates what area you're flying in or something; 2. People sign up for nations eg. US, Russia, China, Aust, etc 3. There's a modelled 'World War' ie. where your nation then tries to dominate the world through attacking other nations. 4. The ground war would be driven by CA and would be dependant on supply lines like IRL (this is similar to the Scorched Earth campaign in IL2) so you have to protect your supply lines and not overstretch them. 5. ED would obviously have to model more a/c, vehicles, ships and other stuff including say C130s, C5s, AN2s, etc for hauling cargo/troops. 6. DCSW suddenly becomes something like World At War campaigns or something. Now, imagine that! :) ok thats enough from me.
  2. Remember, this isn't WoT or something - we're talking about battles applicable to DCS ie. a/c (primarily jet a/c) and helicopter battles....which rules out about 95% of the battles on your vid (which is quite cool btw). If you had to develop maps to support historical battles applicable to DCS, then your range drops to something like: - WW2 (Europe/Pacific) - Korea - Vietnam - Persian Gulf (Arab/Israeli wars, Gulf War 1 and 2, Afghanistan, etc) - Balkans/Russia (where DCS is currently based...map wise ie. the Russian/Georgian war) Those were the major conflicts that employed jet a/c and helicopters and so we have to choose based on these. I'd still prefer we base our 'virtual combat' on historical battles rather than what if...or I'd go play BF3 or Star Wars or something. :P
  3. Thats why I think we won't get an Apache or updated Cobra for a while. Having said that...they needed something to model the A10C on. Funny, given they're based in Russia...and the A10C is a modern day US fighter/bomber - how'd they manage that one?
  4. I'm happy for either version, however I understand (from an update a few months ago) that ED are looking at specific wars or eras or something eg. Vietnam, Korea, etc so I'm assuming they'd have to have a/c, etc from that era so you could jump into a server running a Vietnam campaign for example and know you won't be facing an F15 or Mig29.
  5. I've posted on this before...DCSW would be WELL suited for a Vietnam era module or campaign or something. Think about it: 1. Map of SEA or modelling North Vietnam with maybe the northern parts of South Vietnam; 2. Modelling the main a/c of that era (F105, F4, A6, A4, F100, A-1 Skyraider, Mig 17, 19, AH1). We already have the Mig 21 and A7 II, which are Vietnam era a/c, under construction and the Huey done. Whilst it would be great to have all those a/c, even if we had say the F105 (main fighter/bomber), F4 and Mig 21...thats a great start. 3. Modelling of the SAM, AAA threat during that time (which we could employ using CA). 4. Modelling carrier ops (A6, F4, A-1, A4, A7) Now THATs what I'm waiting for.
  6. One issue with the options - the first option says 'detailed simulation BUT HAS A STEEP LEARNING CURVE'...making it look like we WANT a steep learning curve. This isn't the case. I'm sure most of us would prefer a shallow learning curve, not because we'd like to spend hours pouring over manuals to get a type rating, but because we need to understand it. If you can combine high fidelity/complex sims with shallower learning curves, you'd be onto a winner. Remember, this is a sim about flying a/c (mostly except for CA) and how to effectively employ combat systems, not a 'how to spend $60 on studying'.
  7. From memory I don't think I had anything mapped in the zoom axis settings. It was blank and I wasn't sure what to add. I couldn't map anything to it via my HOTAS either. Anyway, I'll have another go tonight. I don't have this problem with any of the other a/c and I've only just reinstalled DCSW.
  8. Nope, single monitor (24" monitor)
  9. hi guys I use the Track IR 4 and notice that I can't adjust zoom in the SU25T. Even though I've mapped controls (default is the mouse scroll), nothing seems to work ingame (esp MP games) ie. I can't zoom out or in (esp out). I'm then stuck at flying the plane with my head almost stuck on the HUD panel!! I know there are some fixes here but I didn't get much from doing a search, and there are hundreds of threads to sift through to try and find something. Hopefully someone can post fixes here.
  10. Fantastic video guys...esp the 10 at the end. Thanks for also confirming the A6 is on the 'list' for DCS! Can't wait.
  11. hi guys quick question - the two choppers produced for DCS to date (KA50 and UH-1) are essentially single pilot helis (yes even the Huey...which you can fly solo). The upcoming Mi8 will be similar I'm guessing. Assuming we move towards a dual pilot helil (AH64, AH1Z, etc), how exactly is it going to work? ie. how do you go from two pilot (as IRL) to single pilot and still manage everything? you'll end up flying a bird with an empty space in front of you where the gunner is s'posed to be. Unless they implement actually having two players in the one a/c in MP which would be good, however what happens if you want to fly it on your own? You could possibly: - have it similar to the Huey (autopilot as you man the gunner controls) - put the chopper in auto hover whilst you man the gunner controls (like the KA50) - have a AI gunner who mans the guns only (you could possibly 'mark' the target like you do with the KA50 which the AI gunner could fire on) whilst you fire the hellfire or rockets, or some variation of the same - have a proper multiplayer a/c where you have two players filling each slot ie. one as gunner, one as pilot only. That would work perfectly when flying with squadmates...not so much when flying in a pub server without comms like TS3 (anyone flown an attack heli with an idiot in BF3? you'll know what I mean) anyway, interesting to see what they come up with.
  12. how about an A6 Intruder? Just confirmed with Razbam on their Facebook site. My comment was: "Would be great if you could get an A6 into DCS the more vietnam era a/c we have, the better" Response from Razbam: "will happen, already scheduled" Absolutely love Vietnam era a/c. All we need is a North Vietnam map to go with it.
  13. Hmmm great to see they're delving into rotary wing a/c. Not sure I'll get the Mi8 - looks and flies like a bigger version of the huey, not something you'd want to take up against AAA. I'd rather they did the AH1Z or AH64 or something which is a true attack heli.
  14. I still reckon (which is supported by what the polls say at the moment) that the Persian Gulf is the way to go - unfortunately that area is, and has been for a long while, a hotbed of activity for war(s). Hmm let me see: - Gulf War 1 and 2 - Afghanistan - Iraq/Iran war - 6 day war, etc - not to mention the civil wars (Syria, Libya, etc) We seriously need to simulate it. I agree with the post above re players want to simulate real life conflicts but from a gaming perspective only. If we're simulating aircraft as it should be...why not simulate the environments they operate in as well?
  15. when you first drop off RPM, does your nose drop?
  16. What we REALLY need is a new map. Hopefully once based in the Persian Gulf which would incorporate said carrier ops above.
  17. I like how they've done it. If you've read stories of RL vietnam huey pilots who talk about training, autorotations were a part of life ie. done multiple times a day at different altitudes, situations, etc. The first thing they always said to do was floor the collective. Then maintain suitable glide speed (approx 65kts or something for the UH1? its in the dev video), identify a suitable landing area and once you get near the ground, THEN you raise the collective. A lot of the time they'd come to a sliding halt. I like how, once you floor the collective, you actually HEAR the rotors picking up speed due to the airflow over the rotors (hence why you maintain glide speed) and you get a cushioned touchdown when you flare with the balance of energy in the collective. However, flare too high (like I did first time out) and, once the energy is gone...BOOM! lol My controls are still way too sensitive.
  18. hi guys My specs are: Intel i5-3570K/Asrock Z77-Extreme 4/G.Skill Ares (2x4GB) 1600/SSD: SanDisk Extreme 120GB/Seagate Barracuda 2TB/2GB 7870 Gigabyte/Coolermaster USB3.0 RC-912/Antec HCG 520/Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO/Win7 Home Premium OEM (which are in my sig). My pc is about 1 month old. Issue: My issues started after downloading and installing 1.2.4 (upgrading over 1.2.3) as well as purchase of the Huey. Once I got it up and running, I started to get graphical problems ie. my fps would drop to about 2fps or something, pilots were black and I could see through the airframes. Once I did this, my other games have suddenly slowed and my pc is beginning to run quite slow for games. I tried updating my graphics drivers and stuff and this fixed it a little however I'm still getting these graphical problems when running the huey which affects DCSW altogether. I've uploaded a screen shot of what it looks like (its the pic on the left) ie. sky is now deep blue, the writing on the screen is all smudged, the panel starts to get all smudged as well. I'm not sure whether this is a DCS problem, a driver problem, a graphics card problem or whatever. I'm only posting it here because it started just after i upgraded to 1.2.4. Could just be a coincidence..I dunno. Help!
  19. Thank you kind sir, I shall now eat my words (nom nom) and go practice hovering just like they did back in the day....hovering with one point of reference and trying to keep it stable.
  20. would be nice to hear from the devs themselves confirming this is the case. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they devs have better joysticks and have much more practice, but come on...I can barely keep the thing level and I've flown LOTS of helis in FSX which operate under the same sort of dynamics more or less (my opinion that is and could be wrong). Yes I understand all about how to fly it and counter balancing, anticipating, etc however my controls are wayyy too sensitive. I've watched lots of huey videos (RL) and I don't see the same sort of responsiveness like in DCS - I see the pilots making minute corrections esp at hovering but no where near the inputs required from DCS. Again this is just my experience vs what I've seen. If the devs do confirm its the exact same FM with no tweaking, I'll gladly shut my mouth and go back to practising! :)
  21. Well done Belsimtek, now watch the $$ roll in (and recoup your investment!). Can you imagine...Hueys escorted by KA50s....mmmmm.
  22. awesome, thanks guys
  23. For some reason my DCS W doesn't even check for updates. Looks like I'm going to have to d/l the whole thing again *sigh*
