Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
The_Pharoah replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Would ED ever consider doing the F111? its out of service now everywhere but back in the day it was a top line fighter bomber (esp during the first gulf war). -
well I'm still waiting on the sling load for the DCS Huey which is apparently waiting on the next patch after the next patch, so yes it would be nice if some sort of changelog (even draft) were released, esp if it impacts 3rd party devs (+ve or -ve).

How can we improve multiplayer? Ideas.
The_Pharoah replied to winchesterdelta1's topic in DCS Wishlist
+1 to this. However there MUST be some overriding 'logic' that governs the battlefield eg. - constant update of where the 'front lines' are - the need to supply troops at the front line (resulting in resup vehicle convoys, etc) - networks of SAM/AAA - identification/protection of key bridges, airfields, etc ie. what the Scorched Earth campaign for IL2 1946 had. if you want to stop an army, stop the supply of ammo/weapons/troops/etc, which is where bridges, etc become key. You could even have taskings to deliver cargo/supplies/troops to the battlefield for helicopters (Huey/Mi8) combined with armed recon (KA50) whilst A10s/SU25s conduct CAS/armed recon/FAC missions, whilst the fighter jocks battle it out at FL350. There should also be a sea borne campaign. Combine this with a 24/7 server (that goes through proper times ie. daylight/night/etc) and you suddenly have a massive war campaign. -
haven't bothered to read the other 5 pages but I'm a HUGE fan of the Vietnam air war and I think DCS is the perfect platform to replicate it ie. US - F105 Thud (incl Weasel version) - F4 Phantom II - A6 Intruder - A4 Skyhawk - there's so many more but baby steps :) NVA - Mig 17 - Mig 19 - Mig 21 (coming) - Fansong radar - SA2 - AAA Map - North Vietnam up to DMZ (possibly) or the whole of Vietnam as it is today possibly including Thailand/Laos This would then encompass: - USN attacks (A6s/F4s/A4s) - USAF attacks (F105/F4s) - Wild Weasel SEAD flights - inflight refueling Now THAT would be a perfect DCS addon!

The_Pharoah replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I've said this a few times before...there is no proper 'roadmap' when it comes to addons ie. is DCS meant to replicate just the Georgian/Russian war or more than that? can't be just the Georgian campaign because the A10C didn't take part. Then, when does the P-51 come in? I just wish there was a proper roadmap that said: 'We are replicating modern day aircraft only or WW2 a/c only or Vietnam era a/c only or Korean War era a/c only'...not a bit of this and a bit of that. If ED are indeed replicating modern day a/c (the released modules support this), then stick to the modern day a/c ie. - FA/18 - F16 - Harrier, etc Leave out the P51 as it has no place in the modern day battlefield and takes away valuable dev resources from producing the next modern day fighter, or from finishing Edge and the Nevada map, etc. -

6 DOF cockpit for the SU-25T
The_Pharoah replied to Kaned Dragon's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
TBH I'm pretty happy with the current controls of the Frog. Again, its not an A10C with advanced weaponry I wouldn't think so the current controls are probably sufficient. I'm not saying they're perfect (and I wouldn't prefer having a fully clickable cockpit), however if that means time diverted away from development of the FA/18 - I say leave the Frog alone. -

yep, 3 buttons: 1. power on 2. start left engine 3. start right engine I quite like the SU25 as well when fully loaded out with rocket pods....mmmmm....but you still use the Mk I eyeball with this one...not so bad when you know roughly where the battle field is. -

lol..this. guys, don't take everything so literally. As I said, I'm liking the SU25T because its fast, rugged and packs a punch AND gets me airborne in 1.5 minutes if not sooner. Sure it doesn't have everything the A10C has but its still pretty good. -

The_Pharoah replied to Kaned Dragon's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I actually quite like the SU25T. Its not the prettiest bird in the sky (looks more like a vulture than anything else esp when compared to the beautiful lines of say an F16) but handles quite nicely, is quick and packs a punch! plus, it goes from zero to takeoff in like 1.5 mins or something (online anyway) instead of the 5 or so mins for the A10C. I'm currently using a mod to get 6DOF for this bird but would welcome a proper one...even if its old. -
I love ground attack a/c. I absolutely love the A10C but I also want to defend myself against other fast movers better than the A10 can.
-
mate, you need to add one of these to your posts --> :D or  or :music_whistling: or :P tends to get the 'I was kidding' message across a lot better! Something like this: "ED Devs, I hate you all" :joystick: vs "ED Devs, I hate you all"
-
I'd prefer they push out a new map. I'm sure we're all sick to death of current map - I know I am. I'd prefer they make something that resembles the middle east (Iraq/Iran/Syria/etc) given the number of modern day wars that have happened there (where the a/c we use in DCS has been employed IRL...apart from say the KA50).
-
yeah I know....plus you had multiple a/c that flew in multiple theatres eg. Spitfire, P47, P40, P38, B24/25. However, its taken ED X no of years to get the Nevada map ready. Thats a loooong time, and I understand they have a lot of work to do, limited resources etc etc. Thats why I'm not holding my breath with any of this. What we MUST not forget though is....we have DCS World!! ie. the ability to utilise multiple a/c from multiple games (A10/BS2/CA/etc) all in the same environment so thats why it must take longer. That in itself is an achievement. I guess I want me cake and eat it too. The problem I see with the PTO is which period you choose (I posted something like this regarding the ETO) ie. 1941 - 1942 - 1944 - etc. Each period had its mixture of a/c for the multiple battles ongoing at that point (just in the PTO) eg. 1942 you had: - battle of guadalcanal (Zero/Wildcat/Dauntless/Betty/etc) - battle of Coral Sea/Midway/etc (Zero/Wildcat/Dauntless/etc) or 1943 onwards which had the F4U/F6F/P38/etc with new versions of the Zero and other Jap fighters. Reminds me of IL2 1946...when you chose which version of the Zero or Spit or Me109 to fly and when.
-
lol don't get me wrong...I LOVE the PTO but if we use ED as a reference point (maybe correct, maybe not) as to development time....we won't see the PTO for about 20 years! esp if they make each a/c high fidelity, although mind you these were WW2 a/c with limited electronics.
-
Nah, with the limited resources and the time it takes to model one a/c, I'd prefer they focus on the ETO only. Whilst I'd love a PTO campaign, I don't particularly want to sit there for 2 hours flying from my carrier to the enemy. Remember, a lot of the air battles were fought out at sea over long distances.
-
With the amount of time taken to build just one a/c in DCS...it may be 20 years till we have that list. Who knows...ED may still be working on EDGE and the nevada map :) (can't help but have a dig! lol...good on you ED, just keep plugging away). however, having a range of a/c (even if its ETO a/c initially) plus a western europe map would be awesome. For the ETO theatre, there's so many a/c to be modelled to complete the all round experience PLUS you have to select the period as a/c changed so quickly. If say you had to model mid 1943 (height of the air war I guess, before the invasion), you could probably model: Fighters - Spitfire (Mk IX) - ME109 (G or K?) - P47 - P38 - P51B (I think this was in action then) - Hawker Typhoon - ME110 - JU87 (probably based more on the eastern front by this time but whatever) Medium bombers - B25 - Mosquito - Beaufighter - H111 - JU88 Heavy bombers - B17 - B24 - Lancaster Thats already 14 a/c for a specific period and covering the ETO (western europe) NOT including the eastern front, not including the PTO, not including the North African campaign, not including a/c from 1940-1942, etc etc. However, this would provide for the following scenarios: - 'Rhubarb' missions (low level fighter armed recons into France by Spits) - 8th AF bombing missions (B17/B24/P47/P38/Spit/FW/ME) - Tac bombing missions into France (B25/Mosq) - Anti shipping strikes into Northern Europe (if it was modelled eg. Norway) (Mosq/Beau) - Standard fighter missions (P47/Spits/ME/FW) I guess, this is why IL2 1946 was so good in this area. But hopefully ED can see that there is a big demand for this.

I think I found out first hand that the SU25T SEAD missions are only good for active radar sites. I certainly don't fly with Vikhrs when doing SEAD missions - I usually swap them for another 25MPU juuuust in case.

True - I just didn't know the FA/18 does SEAD (well, technically the Growler version I understand is specifically for SEAD missions). Still though, whether its the F16 or FA/18 or EA6B...it would be great to have a dedicated western SEAD a/c. -

Wasn't sure they performed that role. Just saw this on the wiki: Current types Boeing EA-18G Growler Lockheed Martin F-16CJ Fighting Falcon Northrop Grumman EA-6B Prowler Panavia Tornado ECR Shenyang J-8G Sukhoi Su-24MP Xian JH-7A Forgot about the Growler. Just hoping that the version produced by ED includes the ability to perform this role as well. A squad mate mentioned to me last night online (we were talking about this very thing) that having an F16 in DCS would not only add variety, but would also possibly bring across a lot of Falcon BMS players (who don't touch DCS because of the lack of an F16). Anyway, something to think of. -
Learnt a valuable lesson in the A10 last night....MUST STAY ABOVE FL170!! that gives you time from SAM launch to TRY and spot the smoke trail and manoeuvre against it.
-
They got A10s and F15s too?
-
Agree with you Osram. I've posted previously about how a lot of the servers are dead (ie. if you find any) because it just kills the whole immersion when you're flying a modern US front line a/c (A10C with F15 escort) which is complemented with russian SU-25Ts for SEAD, P51s (wait, what??) for....something....whilst US Army 60's era Hueys (which haven't been used by the US Army for goodness knows how long) flies in to insert troops. Hopefully someone in ED is making the right decisions as to the utilisation of limited developer resources ie. - improving DCS World - creating a new map (Nevada with EDGE tech) - improving CA - creating a new high fidelity a/c (eg. FA/18). Just #1 and #2 alone will gobble up resources...they MUST decide what exactly they want to focus on and FINISH IT before moving onto something else.
-
Some good points there...thanks. The problem with playing MP on a pub server is not having anyone else either online or anywhere near you. When I played, there were 3 of us on the server all doing diff things (1 x A10C, 1 x KA50, 1 x SU25 - me) which is a shame but can't be helped. Definitely altitude is the key to give yourself some sort of ability to: 1. spot the SAM; and 2. spot the launch area. Normally when flying SEAD missions, I always carry 2 x 58's and 4 x 25MPUs (instead of 2 x 25MPUs and Vikhrs). This load is good for the radar based SAMs you mentioned above but useless against the passive/optic sites (which is probably where the Vikhrs comes in). In the book I mentioned earlier (Viper Pilot), they pretty much killed all of the SAM sites with CBUs (probably 87s I think) as the HARM missiles didn't really have any effect other than to get the sites to turn off their radar. However, the key was to spot the launch area, escape the SAM and go kill the radar!
-
Ah ok that makes sense. Unfortunately I don't know enough about each SAM/Radar type which doesn't help. I'm assuming then that you have to resort to the Mk I eyeball to find SAM sites, pretty much AFTER they've been launched at you. The book I read on a Wild Weasels (Viper Pilot - Dan Hampton) flying F-16s was pretty much that...wait for them to fire unless you know where they are, then kill them with CBUs as the HARM missles didn't seem to work very well. Helps if you have a wingman too I guess. *edit* what I wouldn't give for an F-16.
