Well to add my bit on this. IIRC the Russian army purchased 20+ Ka-50s and some of these saw limited combat in Chechnya. The Ka-50 is mainly for battlefield FAC but with those weapons I could see it doing CAS as well. As for the R-73s, The KA-50 was fitted out with these for display purposes only, there has never been a live firing of the R-73 from the Ka-50 and AFAIK it does not have the aproppraite systems yet to fire the R-73s installed but as GG has said the Vkhir is A2A capable against IIRC targets below 800Km/h so this can be used for limited protection against any choppers or slow aircraft so whats the point of 2 R-73s taking up the space that 12 Vkhirs can utilise.

Well the Ka-50 got the name Black Shark in russia like it got the name Hokum in NATO countries so I do really see the point of a name change. Or do you think all those flying online typing BS are being rude. :p :D

AFAIK Strikemax is continuing work on his Su-27 though at a much slower pace since ED said that they don't need a 3rd party Su-27 model, apparently they are getting an in-house modeler to do this. IIRC I think he is going to release it for FS2004 only

No, mod free. The only mod I use is a skin mod for the 25T I made myself but I have been having the chat problems well before I made this.

Lost would be too harsh of a description. The chat and (if the server allows) kill messages are intermittently displayed on screen. If while playing on a server and I have not seen any text in a while, I press ALT-M to bring up the chat bar it then shows that people actually have been chatting and kill messages (if any) it is just that the text has not been showing on screen. As soon as I sent a message via either Alt-m or ctrl-m it seems to fix it and the text/Kill messages are then displayed on screen for the rest of the session. Although (why I describe it as intermittent) sometimes chat is displayed from the start of the session. It is not a game stopping bug, just annoying. Also this has been since 1.11 on fresh installs.

I burned the original installers I downloaded on the first release of F.C. I also d/l the installers again in sept when I reinstalled to see if this was the problem but the text bug was still present.

Nice to see after repeated calls of RTFM that you actually started to. If you had asked in this thread "How do I use Cluster pods/MERs?" then you might have gotten a different response than "ED I found a bud 111" although you seem to like insulting people rather than to ask for help.

Well a good thing to do is read the manual. It will tell you things like holding the pickle button when using MERs and such (page 240 - step 4).

Did that last week during an XP reinstall. The problem is still there.

Well in respect to the other forum members, some of us have flown nothing but the 25 or (in my case) the 25T since 1.1 was released. Do you not think that if this was a bug it would have been spotted already? ;) The only problem that I seen in 1.1 was that if the gunpod was used in conjunction with the laser then only 2 bursts of gunfire was possible but it seems to be fixed now.

No, Russian weapon systems drop all bombs on the MER when the pylon(s) is selected.

I use the Combat steering mode of the autopilot for the majority of dumb bomb releases (especially high level drops) and it works great. One thing you always have to ensure though is that you give the autopilot plenty of time to line you up properly with the target. The less work the autopilot has to do at critical points of the flight the better.
