Lockon Operation Red Flag/Combined Air Exercise
Boneski replied to Fudd's topic in User Created Missions General
I hosted something like this back in the day with Flanker. We us to call it the World Squadron Range Operations Program. I would be more then willing to pull out the old mission book. It was a lot of fun. :pilotfly: If you have a Yahoo account... you can find my old group for the World Squadron. http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=808th But yep I would love to do something like this again. -

In the version before Lock On.. the game included the Awesome Primer Yellow paint scheme... has anyone created that for Lock On? -
Funny, THat's a realisctic look at what would happen if the way we fly Lock On was happening in real life... Non MOA flying is not cool for the folks on the ground. 70% of People would be pissed!

The biggest mistake in military aviation history?
Boneski replied to FanBoy2006.01's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Okay, Let me tell you what I did.... I needed some snacks... So I loaded my Backpack with some stuff... So now I am sitting here watching all this with a bag full of snacks... Man it is soooooooooo good... True dat! Double True!! Let me tell you what I got... I got some Cupcakes from Magnolia, A Baker's dozen son! I got some Mr. Pibb and Red Vines.... It's Crazy Delicious... I also brought some Freeze Dried Taster's Choice just in case this turns into an all nighter... I don't even drink coffee.... But some of you may want a cup... I know you maybe wondering if I have water... yes, I did bring in some water... thanks for your concern. I have plenty if you want to share... If this is still going on... and stays PG... I may call up my little cousin so she can see too. This is Episode 10 of How Can You Even Think You Know What A Fighter Can or Can't Do When You Don't Have Any Hours Flying or Training In It. Is this a 20 Part Series? I hope PBS picks it up for next season.... Also I can't want for the DVD to come out... I wonder what the Bonus features will be??? Anyone know? :pilotfly: -

Why is it that the snacks are so high here? 5.75 for popcorn? What if I had some M&M's??? $7.75??? Dang!! $2 dollars extra for a bag with maybe 20 M&M's in it??? Tell you what... I will just have a Bottled water and and a pack of gum.... 4.25?? But if I upsize the water with a Large Water it will be 4.75??? The Price Break is A Water, M&M's and Popcorn for $8.75! $9.75 if you include the pack of gum... Okay... I will get that Combo with the gum! :pilotfly: -
Trey "Lou" Rawls! Now that's Classic!:pilotfly: What a great callsign for the pilot Good use of his name... High marks for that one!

http://operations808.brinkster.net/CombatChronicles/FilmArchive/Su27Demo.avi This has to be the first Airshow movie using flanker.... This is all AI and Me Flying the number 6 Solo... some of you old heads may remember this one... I was a baby when I made this so forgive the Rubbish overdub.... This was before the High power PC's, High speed internets (Bush Speak) and High Power Editing programs that one could afford. This Video is 10 years old... so it's not pretty like the stuff you guys make today!!! But it is testament to the long life of the Flanker code base. It's an AVI; not even sure the codec’s but it should play. It's a cool look back and a tip of the hat to today’s simulation game demo flight groups! You guys are really good!! I think this file as well as the track file is on the Special Edition Red Flanker Disc that came out back in the day. This was not flown in parts...like it appears on the video… I edited down back in The day because downloading a 17 meg files was just too work… The mission was flown all in one shot. I had to be the correct position at the right time when the AI would flyby... It was hard work but it was fun… The old mission editor back in the day would allow you to enter waypoint timing... so you could control the AI time to waypoint. The computer would adjust the speed... So there were a lot of jets popping in and out of the mission… with me flying around like a mad man to get into position The Original track for this was 30 min flight and should be on the old school flanker disc as well as the avi with better quality then the net version. James Brown was the Godfather of Soul... I like to think of myself as the Godfather of Flanker Flight Demo and Video... Enjoy!:pilotfly: -Bones

Threads like this are great! People want all this hardcore stuff added to the game to prevent them from flying through trees... Wow... just a few years ago trees of Lock On's volume where not even present in any flight sim game.... now you have forest and heavy simulated wood areas that people want to be solid... SO what is being asked is to have the trees, which have to number in the 100'000's to be tagged with destructive collision? How would they do that? It would seem like a major wasted of CPU cycles to have to render all of the trees in the game as solid. Even if the player's own ship or AI is no where near them?? Sounds like too much work for something that the player can just avoid doing...i.e.. flying thru the trees... just pretend they are solid.

In the business it's called High Illum nights! -
Hi Ardillita... You try this... Get in a real fighter and fly it in combat without any comms or datalink... heck... paint the canopy black as well and come back and tell me what you see... (To be honest... In a real jet you could still get some work done) We can then share findings... just in case you did not know... flying in the game space is more unrealistic then flying in real life. Games developers provided you with tools... it's silly not to use them...Now if your version of reality is flying blind as a lone wolf not running with the clan... then you are better then I am... a tip of the hat to you good sir... a tip of the hat... :pilotfly: Now if some one is nice enough to set up a server to let the world ride on then they make p the rules... If you don;t like the rules they setup then don't play on their Box... To me that's just simple... Panties don;t have to get all bunched up over that... But Views and cheating have nothing to do with reality... If you want the truth... that's what combat of any kind is about... getting the upper hand any way you can... the only cheat is cheating death.... When I hear people talk about cheating and even playing field It makes me wonder why are the developers even putting different planes in the game... Why not have everyone fly triangles that are different colours?? People want missiles to have the same PK rates and stuff like that... If you want some version of reality then you want things to be different... when some one has something better you look for ways to exploit where they are weaker... Games are so much harder in certin areas ... True Aircombat is a physical and mental workout... Games... well they can be a pain when you don;t have the tools you are use to... so you use what you have... Claims of cheating is nothing more then an excuse on why you are not the master of the game... Adding weapons and changing tables and how the game works... now that's cheating... views are not. If I had the time to setup a server I would allow all the views...

F10 is a great feature it's easy to get lost in the US jets as well as the 25s. Just like any good pilot you pull out the map to see where you are at. Fellas it's a tool just as a map should be. To restrict any of the views from a game is crazy. People remove padlock, exterenal views as well as F10.... These views help you because with out them things are way too hard. Much harder then they are in real lifre which is due the 2D nature of looking at a pc screen as well as not having true and powerful sensors like you have in the jet. F10 is your in jet Map... sure it shows you were people are in the game space. But all it does at the most is help people point to the icon and retrive data from it...The gamer still has to put a weapon on target. So its all in balance. If people are flying around using F10 then I doubt they are having much fun flying a game about jets... As for people logging in and using F10 as AWACS to vector flight... sounds like a great Idea...Combat that by doing the same. To remove the feature because people are uisng it is nuts... Guys Air combat is not about sitting in a metal thing with wings -lLone Wolf in a silent world. YOu run with a Clan... you fellow pilots are talking to you some are even trashing the comms with so much info that you cant process it all. F10 is like those other set of eyes and sensors it's not unfair. You guys worry about cheaters too much.... Fear of losing has nothing to do with fairness...

Second wave? Talking to Bombers? Are we still talking about Lock on? The Ai in the game will know where to shot. NOW the FAC module that Eagle has talked about building were visuals are far more important then that's a different story. But the cockpit base game... that's sounds like wasted CPU cycles... In the flanker series Smoke from stacks drifted in the direction of the wind set in the MET screen. Not sure if that amazing feature is still in this current code base.

Check this out: NEw SIM based on Falcon 4 engine.

3D cockpits are overrated as a pilot you want functionality. As a sim developer you want functionality... as a gamer... well I guess you want 3D to add to the world of make believe... :pilotfly: -
Missing the point I think! Guys... This is an odd request... For a flight sim LockOn's details are top notch. The smoke thing is an odd request because how long are you loitering around the target to even notice that?? Just having the effect as is -is more then good enuff... Some of the detailed items people ask for regarding this game can be down right odd and unrealistic...(not saying this request or Idea is) You know this effect would be wasted since only 1% of the players will even notice it. " I guess if you make the Lock Ons movie films for peoples for enjoy - you wants the Smokes" -Borat (That's going to be one funny movie) LOL!

Dutch F-16B meets Mother Earth pics
Boneski replied to Force_Feedback's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Easy there Cap'n! From the write up it seems like the pair were flying the SFO profile. This is how you stay current on Flame Out procs. Lead is simulating the flame out while the wing is making sure there is no cheating. After you fly him down you clean it up, put power on the jet and go around for the tight 1 mile final. Vipers don't touch and go. The gear is not made for that. But looking at the pics the motor looked as if it let go with a lot of debris out the back. So if it stopped wind milling there was not power for hydro. So the check list is pretty clear after that.. That’s not panic that falling back on your training! Looking at pics of the jet at rest... it looks as if it stayed on a glide all the way down... -
Very cool flying! I bet that 360 looked sweet from the ground :pilotfly: Thanks for sharing!

Dude don't get greedy... :pilotfly: Looks great! -
Sodium Ion lighting would be the hotness. I have yet to ever see a game simulate that. Well that's not true. FLY! had them in the parking areas... It would add flavor to night operations that's for sure.

First thanks for the video! Well since this is the English forum English HUD seems like a good idea to me... The Robot speech is sweet! It sounded very Russian with the way some of the words were put together.. It also gives it that training flavor... But most important... you can do up the audio speech in one take. If you were reading this technical stuff and messed up you would have to redo the auto track. When you type this stuff up and let the computer read it you just cut and paste the stuff in and it's read like it's written.. So this makes it a good idea! Keep up the good work DSP! :pilotfly:

make sure your tanker is on your team. if your team is Russia your tanker needs to be set to Russia Check that

Bros... Press your Easy Buttons...(it's that red button with "Easy" written on it) I need to re-read my post... I did not think it came off like that at all... Nor was I defending a posit... Dudes we are talking about a game... and this is the internet.. I am not here to prove any points or win any debates with you guys... You know more about this game then I do... Some of you are even testing the thing. I assume that the developers have told you what the issues are... so I take it you are speaking from a point knowledge that I don't have...?? I just load it up and fly it when I have time... If the developers say they fixed XYZ thats the version I play... if they break XYZ I guess they will patch it... As for the stuff about If then... That was from stuff I have read about sims in general.. I think it's fair to say that we have all seen that stuff in threads before... so please take no offense... I am not dissing anyones point of view. People want results... I think this tread is about "fixing" problems... Looking back my post might not seem helpful since I don't agree.. I just have a unique point of view... Some times the game is not the problem... I think that's a fair statement aswell... As for real world data on missiles I have not seen any facts from anyone... Nor should I... if you are in the know then you know that details are not something to be hashed out in a public forum... what's the point.??.. If you want the game to be more fun then just say so... but to based that request for more fun in the cloud of real life missile data... please spare us... most people don't have a clue how this stuff is even modeled in the game... (except the testers and the builder) But all that aside... how often do you guys fly on line... I would love to link up. Bones...
-
Well it's clear that some people want pretty simple results from the game… I guess as a fun reward for getting around on the AI or the other human… I shoot you die!! IF Ownship fires missile... THEN Missile better hit what Ownship fired at... Dangit!! Else Change the way missile work so player can be happy!! LOL!! Wow only if it was that easy... As for Real life missile data... well believe what makes you feel better... only you know what you know… So that can’t be disputed. No one is going to battle with you about that. Game missiles are just that… they seem to be doing what they should do… They kill and sometimes they don’t. There can’t be a better model of reality then that…?? What would be really nice would be seeing how you guys fly… you know, check your tactics out… I wish I had more time to fly online… I would love to see how these tactics people talk about online translate into the game... and how people play the game.. I think that’s more the issues then the game itself… Tools are designed to be used a certain way… One wonders which way is certain??? Bones...
