IR missiles would be more than a fun fight. As it stands now it's extremely easy to take R-3Rs out of play by flying tree top level, which nearly anyone that previously flew the MiG does already. But yes, I know what you're saying here. The Mirage is more maneuverable than the F-15, and depending on how high you fly, more so an the rest of the FC3 aircraft as well. MiG-21 vs F-5E will be dominated by the MiG (as long as they keep the AMRAAMs off the F-5)

My biggest comments were the procedures of an ILS approach. I actually wrote up a big long explanation in reply to that video yesterday but felt it would come off ass too rant-y. Key talking points of it were to do a little flight planning to know your safe altitudes to descend to before glideslope intercept, don't chase the needles, stay on glideslope (and don't go below for any reason), plan ahead, and make sure you give yourself enough time to become established on a stabilized approach. Glideslope intercept will always be from below (fly level until you capture glideslope) and you'll normally be on the localizer 10 miles out.

They could easily turn it into an IR missile only or guns only server. It's more fun that way anyway

TM Warthog HOTAS $267 or $314

Wow, overnight shipping? Jet may be a website I use more often -
Adjust as in the dish will stabilize on the horizon, or will shift it's scan with the roll? In the MiG-21 the radar dish self stabilized up to 60* bank, hard to believe it would be any different in that regard. Currently it doesn't work that way on the Mirage, but just curious

Yes, you can use the TACAN to fly radials from it when it's fully implemented. Yes, there's range limits and line of sight issues with it, so you can't go anywhere from one point. If there's no other navaids to use and INS is out, then you effectively cannot fly many places during IMC conditions. It's the same way IRL; no usable approach to the airport, no landing at it in IMC. IRL if you're off an airway and not flying RNAV, GPS, or vectors from ATC then you will not be arbitrarily flying a heading you give yourself from your own flight planning to intercept a localizer. You also cannot pick up bearing or range from an ILS because it shoots only one radial out in a very narrow direction and is a weak signal, meaning that you'd have to be very close. You do not want to guess headings or even rely on flight planning because 95% of the time the winds are not as reported exactly when you're in the air. For DCS's sake you could probably get away with it if you're at 0 wind and stay on top of your game. There really is no other option when there's no nav aids to use and INS is out. Your best bet would be to fly a radial off a TACAN and hope you're in range of the ATC facility to obtain vectors before you run out of TACAN range, but even then you have no way to descend IMC into the airport. IRL military bases have PAR (precision approach radar) approaches that talk you down (left, stop, descend faster, descend slower, etc).

Out of all the flights I've done IRL I've never hit a bird. I've only heard of 3 from the entire flight school over the last four years, and we had about 300 in flight training. I leave my slider at 0. If you want to put it at 1, that'd probably be realistic. At your setting of 100 still going to happen 1/10th the amount of time it did before, which sounds like a lot still.

It took me 4 tries to connect to the server today, DCS kept force closing upon loadup of it. -

Yeah, it's getting pretty big now. The last few days I've been having some pretty crazy lag spikes though. Today I was in a dogfight, the game stuttered for about 10 seconds then I blew up. I was pretty happy to say the least. -

Really blends in down there with that camo! I forgot trees still weren't collideable and thought I was going to blow up the entire time I was treetop level. -

Yeah, it works well when your flight is predictable, but doesn't update fast enough for rolling engagements. -
A slight AOA increase in ground effect will cause float, which is the flare. You don't need 4* more AOA to do this, Just slight
-
If you were in the Navy, no.... But as mentioned, you can pull back more to flare.
-
You want to fly the 14* AOA bracket until touchdown. AOA basically adjusts your approach speed for your weight.

My blood was pumping after seeing those missiles coming my way so much I missed a ton of shots. Right when I saw you behind me I started pulling max G to keep you from being able to get a hit on me (or at least that was the plan) as well as try to force an overshoot. Honestly, you would have smashed me with the first missiles if I hadn't caught you on my RWR. I hate when I forget to dump it in the Mirage, let alone when I did in the MiG. I ended up mapping it to my stick in the -21. I'm interested to see how people are going to counter that rolling scissors, it's effective right now. -

p2aIUt5kMEI Why you want to maintain SA. I was initially looking to rejoin the fight about 15 miles away after getting 4 quick missile kills and still having 2300kg fuel left, then I saw an RWR spike and looked at him right as he shot. A couple of defeated missiles, some maneuvering, and awful shooting later I splashed him. The roll rate advantage is HUGE here. -
The mirage is the obvious favorite, as it has the advantage in every way against the MiG-21. Time has shown though if you play on the strengths of the -21 and weaknesses of your enemy the MiG can be a hugely successful aircraft. Myself and countless others that were on the 104th all last year in the -21 proved that when we were finally able to break the 1:1 KDR. Some of those even refined their skills more and you're seeing 3:1+ consistently, proving that the mirage and FC3 aircraft have to stay on top of their game. That being said and having flown the MiG a lot, when I'm on the Mirage v Mig server I definitely play to the weaknesses of the MiG. I know what I would want to do if I was in the situation of the MiG I'm chasing, and subsequently (usually) try to take that move out of play. This involves a lot of very low level flying, and if it gets into a dogfight, very slow speeds. Reasons here are obvious; the max -1.5* lookdown of the MiG radar (and subsequent difficulty to maintain a lock at that angle) and poor low speed capabilities of aircraft not equipped with FBW. Always play your advantages over your opponent, and whatever aircraft you choose you need to practice all situations with it. “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.” ― Sun Tzu, The Art of War

I've had luck with it, you just have to be within 3 miles, even closer if he wants to maneuver. It's more the missile model in DCS there being incorrect. When I leveled off behind him I was only 7.5 miles back, and lost some distance until I was able to get up to mach 2.2. Way too much gas for one kill, but I was committed at that point! -

Yeah, a little luck is usually involved, and needed in situations like this where he came out of nowhere! The roll rate is great, especially combined with the high amounts of AOA you can pull at low speeds that kill speed. Pair those up with the high thrust-to-weight and you can fly at speeds the MiG simply cannot. It works great on the other end of the spectrum as well, chased down a MiG at 45k that was flying mach 2. -

I was in close combat mode, got the lock, and then switched to the 530. I have that weapon store button mapped to my HOTAS. Also, if you're in close combat mode and DO NOT get a lock, yet select 530s it will still be in CC mode for some reason. Pretty sure this is a bug, as it's not supposed to be able to work with the 530 -

Yeah, I was already around 220kts when I saw him, so I immediately tried to force the overshoot by pulling hard up to decrease speed from AOA and altitude, then saw him overshooting so I just rolled into position. it really demonstrates how useful FBW is, because the Mig is just so hard to control when it gets that slow. -

Yeah, it definitely is a shame, but it made for a more entertaining video when I was out of missiles! I thought about taking that part out but figured others could learn from the mistake. Now, this thread isn't just about me, let's get some discussion and new material in here -
I've been put in the same spot. I can't count how many times I've been on the tail of a Flanker or Eagle in the MiG, desperately trying to IFF only to break off because I couldn't tell for sure. Can't wait for IFF to come to the Mirage
