Definitely the F-16 needs to be implemented. It would most likely be the best selling model in DCS. Just look at the success of BMS, people love that aircraft, and love the missions of strike fighters. It's the one missing aircraft type

DCS newsletter I just got said the Mirage will be out next week.... And I immediately impulse bought

The AI aren't very good. It's pretty easy to beat an "expert" AI F-15 guns only. Anyway, I'm back from a long hiatus, if anyone wants to get some -21 action in online let me know.
-
You're not. I've been saying this since the P-51 came out. I bought the BF-109 only to go play Aces High because I can actually find aircraft there. Graphics don't mean anything if you can't employ the aircraft in the first place

I'm an IRL pilot with 20/10 vision (twice as good as minimums to become a fighter pilot). Aircraft scaling is so incredibly unrealistic in this sim, and is nearly gamebreaking for WWII and Korean war aircraft. To compensate for the awful scaling we instead use unrealistic AWACS instead? It's easier to see a cessna 172 10 miles away IRL than it is to see a P-51 at 1nm in this sim.

here is why I may switch to A version of A-10

Good luck with the absolutely pitiful scaling in this game. IRL yeah, it's easy to spot ground targets and everything, but definitely not in this sim. -
That's probably good, because it's supposed to be a MiG-21 guide... haha wrong thread?

I have a really good idea for a video, but it will take a lot of time for it to be successful. I may try it out tonight.

No problem, the sooner you guys think about this the better. GPA is a big part of the selection, and the sooner you work hard on keeping your GPA the better. I went into college and got a B in my very first class, worked my butt off so it wouldn't happen again (but it did two more times, unfortunately). Aim for a 4.0, and definitely keep it above 3.75 for scholarships.

ISIS CrisIS - Mission One (SP and MP versions)
ttaylor0024 replied to Ranger79's topic in User Created Missions General
If you can make a mission that's a 2-3hrs and CAS heavy like what they're doing now, or like Operation Bactra, I would be so incredibly happy. This one was still a blast though -
Couple different factors. One part was that I got to flight instruct at the naval academy last summer, and talked to fleet pilots for about 2 months straight. I have always gravitated to doing the most difficult thing I could, to be at the top, and nothing is more difficult than being the go everywhere, do anything, then land on a boat when it's all said and done. Lastly, it was a gut feeling, and set into me at a young age when I first set foot on the USS Kittyhawk.

ISIS CrisIS - Mission One (SP and MP versions)
ttaylor0024 replied to Ranger79's topic in User Created Missions General
Just finished the SP version. You definitely need the loadout and wingmen. I'm pretty sure the only ordinance left was 2 or 3 GBU-12s from my wingmen, and 2 CBUs from the Israeli A-10s after the airfield raid. Total time was about 2.5hrs, one aerial refuel. I did chuckle at the amount of Mavs in the air when I turned the wingmen loose. -
Gyro mode isn't working correctly, but fixed is what I use anyway, in which works great.

Not a rant or anything, but a reminder to everyone that this doesn't simply need to be a hobby, but you can actually turn this into a career. I first picked up DCS A-10C my junior year of high-school; when I wanted to be a computer engineer. I thought it was so cool (because it is/was), but still thought it was impossible to become a pilot, had absolutely no clue how to get the ball rolling in that direction, and was too scared to ask questions. It wasn't until I got the scared feeling you get your last semester of your senior year about what you would pursue as a career that I decided I'd rather have fun with my job. March of my Sr. year I visited a collegiate flight school, 3 months later I was starting my flight training. Originally my goal was to become an airline pilot, so I worked really hard towards that. Got all my flight ratings and graduated in 2.5 years with a B.S. in Aeronautical Technologies. My goal of becoming an airline pilot had changed though when I talked to a good friend applying to the Navy OCS program. After some research during my last year of college and an internship instructing at the Naval Academy I thought it was a good fit. A year after I started the application process I'm accepted as a student naval aviator in the U.S. Navy. Moral of the story- This doesn't just have to be a hobby for you. I thought about what I would want to do if money wasn't an object, and flying was it for me, then the ball just kept rolling. Success is no accident, but a result of hard work. Find something you love and go all in, otherwise you will always wonder, "What If"

I Got Into The US Air Force Academy!

Keep your head down and work as hard as you possibly can. I flight instructed mids at the Naval Academy and the amount of dedication those kids have is impressive. Good luck, and have fun with it -
Do radar filters make the radar less sensitive?
ttaylor0024 replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in MiG-21Bis
I wouldn't think it would be enough to be noticeable. A radar return on a cloud is a lot weaker than off a hard object such as the ground or another aircraft. I always fly with the WX and ground filters on. -
If I remember correctly, the radar does not couple with the gunsight. This isn't the sabre. Also, goodluck hitting stuff at 2000m in a dogfight. If you would pull the smallest of G the gunsight you wouldn't even have the gunsight on your hud. The moving reticle is a little buggy, but in reality is not as bad as you guys are making it out to be. It's pretty easy to be accurate with it. If you don't like that your sight isn't moving correctly, use the backup, that's what it's there for. You can't expect everything to be fully functional when it still has the beta tag on it. Just put the sight in auto and leave it off of gyro mode and it works perfectly. While they fix the known issues with the aircraft, learn to really fly it. The -21 isn't very good until you learn how to fly on the knife edge at 27-32* AOA.
-
I've talked to multiple pilots of supersonic aircraft and they said they don't really know when they break the sound barrier. One guy even said that the only way he knows is when he looks at the ground and says, "Oh sh*t, I'm going fast." and then looks at the mach.

Allow me to direct you to the most recent, large flame war on the topic.

ISIS CrisIS - Mission One (SP and MP versions)
ttaylor0024 replied to Ranger79's topic in User Created Missions General
Just flew it. Loved it, except that my wingmen took off and flew over the gulf for some reason... -
I used the black cockpit mod before. It looks AMAZING

You have to be pretty assertive on TS because most of the time they don't realize that what they're saying in relation to bandit location means nothing to you. If you can get bulls calls then just pull up your kneeboard and you can have a good educated guess, or at least good enough to find him on radar. I've had good success with the R-3R, however surprisingly I've also had good success with IR missiles and just leaving the radar in search mode to locate and pull up to the enemy. Once you lock the radar they tend to start taking you as more of a threat, so if you can visually ID them when getting close and launch a R-13M1 or R-60M into their tailpipe they will most likely not even know before it's too late. With that being said, my typical loadout is 2x R-3R and 2x R-60M.

Let's hope! It will be a rough road, but I'm looking forward to the challenge

Thanks guys! I'll definitely be working hard to not ruin this opportunity. It will be a race between ED and I to see who gets to the hornet first....
