thread theft in progress, i am looking at an immediate purchase of a laptop, now i have an idea of what not to get, anything with an x3100 onboard gpu. what do you think of this model: Asus X55SV-AS081C Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium 15.4" WXGA Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T8300 : 2.4 GHz, 800MHz FSB,3MB On-Die L2 Cache 2 x 1GB DDR2 667 MHz SDRAM 2.5" 9.5mm SATA 250GB,5400rpm 5.25" , 12.7mm DVD Super Multi Light Scribe NVIDIA® GeForce® G9500 GS External 512MB VRAM Integrated Intel® High Definition Audio chip ( Azalia) etc etc. see what happens over the weekend. edit: forget that one above, i scored one of these: Model: ASUS M51SN-AP067G Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.5GHz, 800MHz FSB, 6MB L2 Cache) Chipset: Mobile Intel PM 965 Hard Drive: SATA HDD 320GB (5400 RPM) Memory: DDR2 667MHZ 1G X 2 (2GB) Operating System: Windows Vista Ultimate VGA: NVIDA GEFORCE G9500M GS / 512M Display: 15.4-inch WXGA Colorshine Network: Intel 802.11a/g/n, 10/100/1000 LAN Bluetooth: Yes Optical Drive: DVD Super Multidrive + Dual Layer + Lightscribe WebCam: 1.3MP Camera + Hybrid TV Tuner Interface: 4 x USB 2.0, 1 x TV IN/DVI-D, TV-OUT/SPIDIF/IEEE 1394, Express Card Power: 90W Adapter Battery: 6 Cell 2.5HR life Dimensions: 365 x 269.5 x 28-40.5 mm (max) Weight: 2.95Kg Warranty: 2 Years pick up and return to base in Australia Bonus: Optical Mouse and Carry Bagseems to have all the bells and whistles, charging her up now and lockon will be on it tonight, this is purely for mission building, well that was the idea. in the laptop i have been using the gpu isn't powerful enough to even run lockon. as any mission builder knows, you need to make sure it all works as intended. with any luck it should also be good for replaying tracks and taking screens etc. how exciting, oh and hello vista ultimate. edit: it runs lockon quite nicely @ 1280x800, so thats good news. so ripley, if you're still looking this seems to be a good unit.

currently i am running lofc with the th2go on the system in my sig. after all the effort to get the centre screen of the th2go looking similar in cockpit to a single 5x4 ratio screen. i have currently settled for the default view zoomed back as far as stock settings will allow, this maitains a very similar performance level to a high res single screen. this view is far closer than what i initially was attempting to achieve but i am enjoying the one plus it provides and that is a more zoomed in world, with enemy aircraft easier to spot etc. its when you zoom right out, thats when the fps slowdown really kicks in roughly halving performance if not worse, looks awesome, runs crap. this is one issue that would be nice to get resolved, as its working alot harder to draw areas you do not see. all i have done is modified the view limitations slightly, allowing the trackir to look further around so you are looking straight back at the seat, either left or right. if possible to satisfy your desire for knowledge, maybe u could drag your pc to the local tv shop and tell em you want to try something out, configure the res and aspect in lockon and give it a go, if they say no then take your buisness elsewhere. i have no experience with 30" lcd so i cannot really comment with facts, so i prefer to say little on this topic. your system seems pretty good so it should be ok with either choice, worst comes to worst you can loose some candy till your next upgrade, you'll already have the mad screen/s :) considering the budget to go either way you have suggested, th2go or large 30" lcd. it may be an option to think also projector, i have a 1280x720 unit and lockon runs and looks good on it. no lines splitting that image 3 metres wide on the wall. to hell with it, get the th2go and 3 beamers like bnepethomas' sweet setup :)

i would say that a large lcd like 30 inch would required dual-dvi interface, with a resolution around 2560x1600, that is massive and similar to the triplehead res as far as pixel count goes, actuallly i think the 30" is greater. as for the th2go bezel gaps between screens, you main focus is on the centre screen, once engulfed in flying etc, its like what lines, racing games are the same. either way a nice new powerful pc will be needed to feed the beast.

i think the view limits may be locked for this aircraft. -

Ratcatcher: Glad to hear you benefited from our info, appreciate the kind words, suddenly overcome by a warm fuzzy feeling. my thanks must also go to Tekateka. gotta love that th2go, impressive isn't it. and together with all the other addons you mentioned, they definitely make this sim a virtual delight to fly. enjoy. i was happy enough when it was mentioned the aspect ratio reset bug would be fixed :D here's hoping for fully built in th2go support, its sounds promising. -
trackir3pro unhandle error, ding not working
G3 replied to G3's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
after several hours of setting things up to suit my new config and making mew images, the time had come. i ran the bat file in lockon after the format. deleted the 2 trackir files in lockon installed the trackir software latest version 4.1.034.final plugged in and windows set up the trackir setup the curves and other options to my liking. started lockon, went thru the starforce reboot in game menu pops up and god dammit, DING!, oh dear. edit: new install of lockon fc 1.12b and tried it with older trackir version. 28 final touch wood this is working so far, about 2 hours gaming, joining server, adjusting curves etc, no ding :) think i will make an image now and then test the newer trackir drivers 34 final. still no conclusive answer as to what was causing it but right now i don't care. would be great if i can recreate this error and track down whats causing it. -
trackir3pro unhandle error, ding not working
G3 replied to G3's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
yep i went for it today, restored a ghost12 image i made on the initial build back in January, a little out of date so i updated it to my new config, nvidia drivers, av etc and added everything needed for gaming prior to trackir install, then made a new image, gotta love ghost, it saves heaps of time in the long run, when you need it on occasions like this. so now i can instantly go back anytime in a matter of just minutes, to being game ready except for trackir. tomorrow i will be reinstalling the trackir and fingers crossed i don't see this unhandled error message. thanks again for your input. will report back soon. -

only tir plugged into usb, still getting the error. device manager says 350ma with 9 spare ports. followed the suggested proceedure for uninstall and reinstalling of the drivers. tried it with my fresh lofc install, same result. nothing works so far, still getting this unhandled error dammit. that format is looking good. -

not at my gaming pc so i did a bit more research, found that the natural point forum has an actual lockon section, in this i found several people having the unhandle error issue, one fix suggested: Remove the TrackIR software by doing the following: a. Click "Start" b. Click on the "Control Panel" c. Click "Add/Remove Programs" d. Find "TrackIR" and click "Change/Remove" e. Once launched it will give the option to completely remove it. f. Delete the NaturalPoint folder at the following location, C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint g. Download and reinstall the software from the following location, http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/06-support/support-download-software-and-manuals.html_________________________ NaturalPoint Technical Support Support@NaturalPoint.com one thing i noticed was that i had been doing exactly the same proceedure, apart from manually deletely the naturalpoint folder: f. Delete the NaturalPoint folder at the following location, C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint will be trying this first thing tomorrow and will go from there. -
trackir3pro unhandle error, ding not working
G3 replied to G3's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
ok today i removed all but essential usb devices replacing the usb mouse and keyboard etc with ps2, trackir plugged directly into pc, and the only other thing being my usb powered hub. in the bank of 4 usb ports on the back of the io panel, i used one on top for the trackir and one on the bottom for the usb hub. i am assuming at this stage that the pairs are the top two and the bottom two. all my other usb headers on the p5n-32e-sli motherboard are blocked and unusable thanks to the monster fans on the 8800 ultras in sli. i even had to modify the fan cover on the lower card to get it in at all. thats another story we won't get into now. Kuky: i will have a look at the device manager when i get home. =RvE=--AS--: the lights are still coming on the trackir and i can see it tracking just fine thru the trackir software, occasionally it will work for brief periods until this unhandle error raises its ugly head. one thing worth including is the fact that after this happens, the trackir just stays on even though i shut down the "not responding" trackir software via a control alt del. and even after a reboot it seems to just stay on, even without starting the software, now that is weird. wonder if i can find something more in the windows error logs? i have also tested with a fresh version of lofc without any mods and it hasn't happened yet but i have only tried it a a couple of times so far. i was unable to get it tracking in game at all until i fired up the fresh version and it worked but as soon as i went back to my normal version it tracked for a while and then boom, the unhandle error. so it could be an issue with my game install, i have several mods installed thru modman but this is nothing unusual, not to mention it has been running just fine up until now. i do have another trackir so i guess i might also try plugging it in to see if the error continues to arise. and i will also remove the powered hub entirely to eliminate that from the equation. if all this is fruitless then it will be time for a format of the c:\ probably about time anyway, prefer not too but its all imaged so no big deal, only takes minutes rather than hours. so today more testing, i will run the fresh install of fc a few more times and get a better idea if the trackir is stable, will check the device manager and error logs if any, as well as totally remove all other usb devices other than trackir. thanks guys for the input, always appreciated. we will get there eventually. -
trackir3pro unhandle error, ding not working
G3 replied to G3's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
hey kuky, thankyou for being helpful. i have just added 2 usb devices so you could be onto something. the trackir is plugging directly into the back of the pc. other items such as g25, hotas, keyboard etc are from a powered usb hub, with a single usb connection to the pc i have just converted my sfs throttle, which added the usb controller pcb from an attack3 joystick. and i am now using a usb keyboard so i can used the sfs throttle keyboard emulator in the ps2 connection. i will try it with only the trackir plugged into usb and see how that goes, and add devices from there. i think you are probably right about a power issue. will see what i can do to unload it a little, maybe i will get another powered hub and have only them directly connected to the pc's usb ports. come to think of it, its only been a noticeable problem since adding the throttle, cheers. ps: are you saying each usb port on the back of the pc is rated @ 500mA, or could that be shared across 2 or more ports. -
Why do servers forbid Tacview ACMI file recording?!

perhaps selfless would be a better word. the quest for knowledge can be perilous. keep going though, we enjoy the satire. -
thats what happens sometimes with my trackir3pro lately, was kind of hoping others here might have had the same thing and found a fix. it can be working just fine and then i hear "ding" as the little unhandle error pops up in the background, alt tab to desktop and there it is. at this stage the tracker is non responsive and reqires a pc reboot. searched the natural point forums but all dead ends so far. would really like to sort this out asap.

discussion about nvidia 8800 card settings
G3 replied to G3's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
so its the AA that makes planes harder to spot? -
needed to set my view settings so i refered to this thread and am now responding to some recent posts i had missed after the thread revival. i second this request, if we are lucky enough to see a LOFC final patch, then hopefully the coding issue descibed earlier in this thread by Tekateka might just get sorted out. will check now that it has been mentioned in the patch request thread, good thinking mate. i have only toyed with the eagle but i would say at a guess most aircraft could be set up in a similar way. cheers Joe for the kind words, so many people do great things for this sim and its community, this is just my small contribution, and my only claim to fame :) also a big thanks to simHQ for those recent videos from beachAv8r.

discussion about nvidia 8800 card settings
G3 replied to G3's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
for reference sake, let me begin. 1. in game settings all max other than shadows and water. 2. 169.44 3. have not changed from standard driver settings. 4. sli is on as i get far superior performance in other games. see my sig for system specs. -
with community help, i would like to determine the best videocard settings for bvr in lockon, such as when you are looking for enemy aircraft just entering the wvr threshold. Specifically for the 8800 series cards. currently i am seeing distant enemy aircraft as an occasional flicker, i am sure image quality has been better on my older system. so things on topic would be: 1. IN GAME GRAPHIC SETTINGS. 2. nVIDIA DRIVER VERSIONS winxp 32 3. AA and AF settings in nvidia control panel, global setting or lockon specific, neg lod clamp etc. 4. sli on or off, also different rendering modes etc. i am sure my image quality has been better in the past. heres hoping we can discover some improvements. share the wealth team.

Mission building help - setting airbase side

i too would really like a definitive answer to the airbase ownership, red or blue, how to predefine it in a mission. -
original and 1.12b mission editor, does it matter?
G3 replied to G3's topic in User Created Missions General
thanks guys, mud is a little clearer now. having a blast creating missions, it gets pretty complex pretty quickly, and these are relatively basic and only small numbers of aircraft. -
wondering when building a mission is it possible to use a common nav point for several aircraft, say for instance i want 4 clients to fly to a common place without having to make a nav point for each individual aircraft? better still, can you copy a flight route of multiple nav points from one flight group to the next? currently in a multiplayer mission if i want to allow 5 clients and i want them to have the same nav points i am making 5 seperate flight routes that are basically identical, if i could use one flight route for all the clients that would make my mission building far simpler, thanks.

sulan: it has a low and a high filter cut off switch with adjustment from 40-160, measured in Hz i guess. groove is right, if you have in game sound you are good 2 go. vs461: i don't think it will provide exactly what you are thinking but it does provide some great ingame sensation. more so cannon fire, getting hit etc, until i try it with BS this is only my belief, possibly effects from hard collective action may be felt if it generates a noticable sound difference, lets hope so.

you gotta love the landing flare before touchdown, just magic.
