Undercarriage not retracting after training mission.
Laurius replied to Noj's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Hi fellow Flanker's pilots, I've been putting my hands on this bird for about one week now and I've also been experiencing main gear retractation issues after take off, several times. I 've always been using 250km/h for rolling my nose wheel up. Since then, I try to quickly retract my main gear up before reaching an IAS of 300 km/h or above. I honestly think that the trick is to make your gear up as soon as you are few meters above the ground and not care about what the virtual instructor tells you, especially in this lesson about start-up. Applying this rule fixed this particular problem in my case. This is my poor and honest opinion. Laurius -
Some funny stories and jokes Fighters or heavies? An F-16, after refueling behind a KC-135, was generally making a nuisance of himself by flying rolls around the lumbering tanker. The message for the KC-135 crew was, "Anything you can do, I can do better." Not to be out done, the tanker pilot announced that he would rise to the challenge. The KC-135 continued its flight, straight and level, however. Perplexed, the fighter pilot asked, "So? What did you do?" "We just shut down two engines." Marines An airman in a bar leans over to the guy next to him and says, "Wanna hear a MARINE joke?" The guy next to him replies, "Well, before you tell that joke, you should know something. I'm 6' tall, 200 lbs, and I'm a MARINE. The guy sitting next to me is 6'2" tall, weighs 225, and he's a MARINE. The fella next to him is 6'5" tall, weighs 250, and he's also a MARINE. Now, you still wanna tell that joke?" The Airman says, "Nah, I don't want to have to explain it three times." The General's Physical The General goes to the flight surgeon for his physical exam. The surgeon says, "General, what kind of problems are you having?". The General says "None whatsoever". Surgeon says "What about your sex life, when was the last time you had sex?" The General says "1959". The Surgeon says "Wow, that's a long time ago". The General says "But it's only 0830." Tower Time On some air bases the Air Force is on one side of the field and civilian aircraft use the other side of the field, with the control tower in the middle. One day the tower received a call from an aircraft asking, "What time is it?" The tower responded, "Who is calling?" The aircraft replied, "What difference does it make?" The tower replied "It makes a lot of difference: If it is an American Airlines Flight, it is 3 o'clock. If it is an Air Force, it is 1500 hours. If it is a Navy aircraft, it is 6 bells. If it is an Army aircraft, the big hand is on the 12 and the little hand is on the 3. If it is a Marine Corps aircraft, it's Thursday afternoon." Been to Frankfurt Before? The German controllers at Frankfurt Airport were a short tempered lot, they not only expected you to know your parking location but how to get there without any assistance from them. So it was with some amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground and a British Airways 747 (Speedbird) Speedbird: "Good morning Frankfurt, Speedbird 206 clear of the active." Ground: "Guten morgan, taxi to your gate. The BA 747 pulls onto the main taxiway and stops. Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?!" Speedbird: "Standby ground, I'm looking up the gate location now. Ground (with typical German patience): "Speedbird, have you never been to Frankfurt before?!" Speedbird (coolly): "Yes, in 1944, but I didn't stop." The Importance of Airspeed A good ol' boy American AF reservist C-130 pilot was in the (that day very crowded) instrument pattern for landing at Rhein-Main. The conversation went something like this: Control: "AF1733, You are on an eight mile final for 27R. You have a UH-1 three miles ahead of you on final; reduce speed to 130 knots." Pilot: "Rogo', Frankfurt. We're bringing this big bird back to one-hundred and thirty knots fur ya." Control (a few moments later): "AF33, helicopter traffic at 90 knots now 1 1/2 miles ahead of you; reduce speed further to 110 knots." Pilot: "AF thirty-three reining this here bird back further to 110 knots" Control: "AF33, you are three miles to touchdown, helicopter traffic now 1 mile ahead of you; reduce speed to 90 knots" Pilot (a little miffed): "Sir, do you know what the stall speed of this here C-130 is?" Control: "No, but if you ask your co-pilot, he can probably tell you." Captain Bravado There was a bomber pilot during WWII named Captain Bravado, who showed no fear when facing his enemies. One day, while flying over Germany, the tail gunner spotted two FW-190's approaching, and the crew became frantic. Captain Bravado ordered his copilot to bring him his red shirt. The copilot quickly got the red shirt to the captain, who put it on and turned toward the fighters to give his gunners a better field of fire. His crew shot down the enemy planes and went on to lead the formation on a successful bombing run. That evening, all the men sat around the hangar recounting the earlier triumph. One of them asked the Captain, "Sir, why did you call for your red shirt before battle?" The Captain replied, "If I were to be wounded in the attack, the shirt would not show my blood. Thus, you men would continue to fight, unafraid." All of the men sat and marveled at the courage of such a manly man's man. The next day, they took off for a mission deeper into the heart of the Third Reich. Once over German territory, the top gunner spotted an entire squadron of German fighters above them, while the belly gunner saw another squadron below. The crew stared in worshipful silence at the Captain and waited for his usual orders. Captain Bravado gazed with steely eyes upon the vast horde arrayed against his craft, and without fear, turned and calmly said, "Get me my brown pants." :D

Russian Air Force Photos and Video (NO DISCUSSION)
Laurius replied to Flаnker's topic in Military and Aviation
Cp : Thank you for your clarification. But I still have questions. Does this means that the backsitter personnal is also able to take control on the plane ? Mainly, in take off and landing phases ? Which would mean that they would be more than WSO ? Thanks !! -
ED SIMS SCREENSHOT AND VIDEO THREAD!!!! (NO USER MODS OR COMMENT)
Laurius replied to rekoal's topic in Screenshots and Videos
@ Moto : What a Cobra !! Your first screenshot is a real beauty !! I began with the SU-27 two days ago (SU-27 for DCS World) and only stick to instructional missions so far, trying to configue some switches in the mean time. Flying "all keyboard" is not an option to me... :) All I can say is that I love this bird. So challenging... No crash landing so far, and I discovered the chute yesterday evening ;) -

New Mig-31BM I just can't believe the size of the jet intakes ! What a beast, although not a young one, but still amazing and rocking More to see here : http://englishrussia.com/2014/11/14/visiting-an-airbase/ By the way, I always wondered what's sticking up off the canopy in those Russians airplanes ? Hideout mission AWACS and UZI wont answer me (track uploaded)
Laurius replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Hi Dudester, I'm desparetly looking for that mission. I know it's quite an old one by now but I flew it in the past and need to enjoy it again. Hoping it's still flyable Thanks in advance Cheers -
Hey guys, can someone try and test this mission ? It seems to me that it doesn't work anymore, which doesn't surprise me seeing how old it is. That's quite a pitty since I liked it very much Cheers Laurius

That's a really interesting thread, really ! I've always heard that the nazis reverted the branches of the original swatstika (leftward rotation), converting it from a solar symbol into one associated with darkness (rightward rotation). I saw it in japanese temples with the original orientation and we can see such an example in the link provided by OP. What is strange, is that in the early XXth century, the orientation seen is most of the time the same as the one used by nazis (see the same link mentioned by the OP, such as Coca Cola's one). Regarding picture posted by Griffin, I would say that Finish Air force is using swatstika with its original orientation, thus, not nazi. Here, in Grenoble, we have a very old church with a crypt dating from the VIth century. This church evolved throughout the following centuries and has a remarkable ceiling in the nave. This ceiling was painted in 1910 and displays swatstikas oriented righward, just as those used by the nazis. You can see it here : http://musee-archeologique.clic-and-web.com/nef-eglise.htm Of course, the first time I visited this church, many questions arose in my mind. So, the question is, what makes the difference between a 'good' and 'bad' swatstika ?

Hi FoxHoundElite, Glad you like it ! :) I googled for "birds of prey & fighter jets" or "raptors & fighter jets" (I let you guess what came out the most for this latter...). I tried then with "falconry in French Air Force or USAF". Here are some more : From French Air Force : From USAF : This one stands in a KC-135 cockpit : And finally this one from this website : http://www.essex.ac.uk/lifts/memory_maps/articles/helen_macdonald_military_falcons.html ;)

Hi, probably not the kind you're looking for, but this kind of image seems indeed hard to find. Hope you like it ! Cheers Laurius

Hi, I think using mark points onto moving targets is definitely not possible. But Maverick-X and Aginor pretty said it all. Here is a mission (not from me) that helped me a lot when I began, though I assume you built yours. Original post where I found it: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1121545&postcount=1 Just follow instructions Cheers Laurius Edit : sniped & sniped again...;) Training - 6 Mavs 6 tanks 1 pass.miz

Interceptor vs. Air Superiority Fighter - What's the Difference?
Laurius replied to Flagrum's topic in Military and Aviation
First, that's a very interesting thread. Second : I like the clear distinction GGTharos made between both roles and I agree with most of what he says. Now, I (probably) naively think, that interceptors fighters answer to a 'Scramble Scramble Scramble' order and have to go fast from A to B, while the Air Superiority ones are already in the area and are doing a CAP-like mission with every ordinance needed to do so, and communicating with an AFAC or ground control, looking for what's going on in this area, may it is remote or that of a sovereign country respectively. I also think that Air Superiority missions can't go without AA refueling capabilities (remote areas). That's how I see the difference between both kind of missions. Now, I wonder if this is really fighter-jet dependant since most of them are now fast and have more or less the same capabilities to carry a lot of different A-A armaments. The only difference I see is on the fuel quantity they can take and use before needing A-A refueling. As for the planes mentioned by Mvsgas, should they have delta wings or not ? I honestly don't know but I thought It was worth mentioning it -
Ralphitude, thank you for this awesome video. I've watched several of yours and it's always a pleasure and a blast I own the F-15C since 1 week and I find your video very inspiring. I hope I could do as well some day. And congrats for the comm's and the music. They make your video very EPIC !!

@ Tomcatter :  Thanks for sharing this beautiful video. How can we not feel like riding this beast after seeing it ?? I hope ED will make us happy sooner than later with it (without speaking of EDGE of course) ;)

DCS World environmental shaders mod
Laurius replied to Mustang's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Mustang, A big thank you !! Everything is nice and smooth. First because, your mod is awesome and makes DCS World graphic environment way better, if I may put it this way, since I feel a real difference compared to the genuine version. Second, for having included the cloud shades file, as suggested by The Gozr ! Many thanks to him also for posting his testing results. I have played lately with this file to increase darkness of clouds shadows on the ground. That being said, I know with Edge coming, everyone's mind will be blown up and we will all be wondering if it's the same sim we are flying with for years now. Once again, thank you for making us patient while waiting for Edge to come out. Cheers Laurius -
nice but you're only reposting what has been posted here before by Ange, only two days ago. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=132092

Time for me to build my own little cockpit! Advice and help needed
Laurius replied to Alkaline's topic in Home Cockpits
Hi Alkaline, I can only second what has already been said ! Once you have experienced flight sim with TrackIR, you won't be able go without it anymore. So it worths every bucks you can put into this device. Regarding MFDs from Thrustmaster, you can definitly use them with the A-10C. They're just plug-and-play. Sorry, I can't tell about them with the F-15C. But I'm sure you can manage to use them also by configuring them in the options & controls panel for the F-15C As for the TM HOTAS Warthog, this is probably the best option you can find, especially if you want to fly the A-10C. Nothing to worry about one more time since it is plug-and-play and you won't have to configure it to fly that beast (exept for one little things, namely replacing the POV by the trim function if you have TIR...) Go ahead and feel the pleasure that DCS World provides when having good devices to fully enjoye it ! Laurius -
Thank you Ange and congratulations for this new video ! It's a real blast watching it. IMHO, music fits perfectly with editing, as always. Keep on feeding us with nice vids like this one !

Islamic State fight could breathe new life into the A-10
Laurius replied to SharpeXB's topic in Military and Aviation
First, I agree with mwd2's question at this stage of operations. However, I think that it would be nice to see A-10s running missions over Irak and/or Syria, but wouldn't that imply having JTACs on the ground for target designation ? Is the Iraki army trained enough for that purpose (I don't even think of regular Syrian army nor the rebels how moderate they are) ? EDIT : piXel496 made a good point also -
Hi dear TAW members, I stumbled on this thread today, and I find the offer very interesting. I checked for your website and I'm amazed by all the games you are running. I think I'd like to apply for being an A-10C pilot as I always been wanting to fly with a virtual English speaking squadron. But for "ping" reasons, I thought It would never possible. So depending on your location, why not giving it a try. I've been flying with the virtual French squadron "355th" which unfortunatly doesn't exist anymore. And to be honest, I haven't been flying on-line for nearly one year, but I think I master the A-10C quite well and I learned a lot during my experience with the 355th. As you can see, I'm in France. I have a quite decent rig (at least, that's what I think), with Teamspeak 3 installed (up-to-date) and headphones with mic as well. Nevertheless, I still haven't updated to 1.2.10 up. 1., because of the many bugs reported so far. So, one question arises, what's your status regarding DCS updates ? Otherwise, I gave a try to Arma III this year and remember having played a lot Arma II (Operation Arrow Head) and Ghost Recon 2 few years ago but not online. Cheers Laurius

Thank you Lubos for your help and kind words, I will try each of your advices. I have to say that I thought about connecting another monitor to my graphic card. Exploiting the unused part of my Lilliput is also a nice idea by the way, and will try it. Some questions I'm thinking of : - Pressing SHIFT and clicking on "locate DCS A-10C" should work, even though this button is not active ? - As I don't need your App to display MFDs, how should I manage them with the server ? During one attempt yesterday where I tried to replicate what I have in my .lua file, the server said that it could not handle resolution higher than 400 x 400 and they are 525 x 500. Be assured I won't give up like that ;) Cheers Laurius
-
Hi Lubos, please, check your PMs. Still no luck to get your App working. A pic of my desktop pit can be found here : http://forums.eagle.ru/picture.php?albumid=688&pictureid=4798 As far as I understand, for the CDU to be displayed on my tablet, it should be displayed on my main monitor, right ? If, yes, I'm afraid I won't be able to use your App since I don't want to modify what I already have. Another point quite annoying is that when I run the server for the first time, it can't find A-10C and it asks me to find it manually. So I point it to "D:\DCS World" and then it's fine. But if I exit the server and run it again, A-10C is no longer found and I'm not proposed anymore to find it manually. Thanks Laurius
-
Dear Colo, once again, thank you very much for your fast clarifications regarding my case. I think the advices you gave me will benefit this great community of DCS World Users. I will definitely try using your App and keep you informed of my progresses here or by MP. Thank you very much one more time ! Laurius PS : Now, I run Mozilla Firefox at home (just like at work) and your website is now reachable ! Still don't know why IE can't do the same...
-
Dear Colo, Thanks a lot for your fast answer. I really come to think that IE is the culprit for not being able to reach lumatek.sk. I really don't know why. I don't mind paying for the most powerfull version of your App, but probably go for the free one in a first step. Do you mean I should revert back to a two monitors set-up ? Does this mean I could not use my Lilliput to display MFDs for which I modified the "LMFCD+Camera+RMFCD.lua" file found in DCS world\Config\MonitorSetup ? If the pro version can handle only 2 monitors max, seems a bit scary to me. I really don't want to mess up my rig. Although I started to watch some of your videos from the links you provided in this thread, I will watch them again very carefully. But please, tell me if, with a main monitor and 2 Lilliputs properly configured to display in Windows 7, is there any chance to make your App working in my case ?? Many thanks !! Laurius
