One guy I used to fly with only utilized text chat and quickly got the name 'Fingers'. Using text for comms always makes me aware of how much important info isn't communicated because it's too cumbersome. Talking on TS is (or rather: becomes) natural-er very quickly.
-
You want to keep an eye on it, make sure it fits your group, and the other users understand the concept. Also, talk to the guests to see (haha, hear) what they think. If they get bored or feel excluded, that might be bad in the long run.

I agree, great post. Language is indeed an unfortunate limitation, but I think groups need to deal with it. There's no point in having Teamspeak when you need to dedicate half your neurons to trying to figure out what that guy is trying to say. Comment on the last paragraph: I found that a separated Teamspeak with Guest/Lounge/Flight Areas works well. New members can use the open Guest part and get used to the concept of TS. Everyone can and will move them into the lounge to socialize, say Hello and get to know each other, and the Flight Channels are exactly for that - people get moved in and out of there if they fly in the lounge or chat in the flight channels.

Browser-Based Multiplayer Mission Planner for DCS: World
Supersheep replied to FSFIan's topic in DCS Modding
You could PM a tester about that. Either they know who we need to pay at ED's, or they can decide if it is worty of a bug tracker entry (with whatever low priority). -
Eh, disregard my last post. I missed something fundamental here, which @Gate summed up.
-
Or the hacker deleted those posts... The no-info approach is less-than ideal nontheless.
-
Nope. No sense there at all IMHO.

With 32 GB? Edit: Did I miss a joke here? Could there be clients with mixed versions on the serser?
-
That joke could almost have been from Sobek :D

Edit: Two players needed. As per the title. I need two Combined Arms players who are interested in joining a mission I built. TBH, it'll be the first real run of the mission, and if there are major problems in it, that's solely my fault. Setting: 2v2 1x CA, 1x A-10C each Task: Capture/defend an airport Briefing as PDF and on TS Language: English Duration: unknown (2+ h) This session will happen outside of any squadrons. I will make a Teamspeak available, and have arranged the mission to be hosted. Regards, Supersheep

@Pepec No, it isn't. Headspace explained why somewhere in the thread, but basically, there's code in it that he originally created for paid projects and cannot legally make available.

Lucky you! German accent makes hilarity :P
-
The first time I was on a TS I barely said anything at all, fearing that people would mock my (baaad) accent, give the FNG stamp, or not talk to me or whatever. That evaporated away the quicker the more I spoke to the gents.

The experience on Teamspeak isn't predictable. You can well find a great bunch of people who work together and welcome new players. On these servers, you'll have a good time, be productive, and all you need to make your ideas for a flight be adopted is to make a good case for them. Sometimes, servers are populated, but the players somehow seem to know each other, and have more contact than just the chatter you notice on Teamspeak. In this environment, you can easily feel as an outsider, because you just can't crack the code - and probably never will, especially if the players know each other in RL, too. The second point comes in a variety of flavors. Be it that the people know each other in RL, have a forum, have been playing together for ages, or that some people consider themselves the regulars on a server, and then act accordingly. The effect is the same in any case. Coming back to the first sentence, joining a foreign Teamspeak is like a blind date. You might have quality time, or, in the worst case (rarely happens to me) you'll get flamed at. My impression is that the negative effect outweighs the upside and people seem to hedge the downside not by quitting if needed, but not logging on in the first place.

When I click a link in an email that notifies me about a new post in a thread I have subscribed to, I am usually send to a page in that thread that is very old instead of the latest one(s). Mostly it is either about 2/3s into the thread, or about seven pages back. After I log in, the links seem link to the actual latest page, but I don't know if that is always the case. Is this something that could be changed as to always link to the latest? Thanks gents! Supersheep

I think every group (as in server, or community, or squadron) needs to decide that for themselves. Me, I don't like human fighters (because I lack any training for it, and because mission making gets more complicated). Then again, with CA, some completely different concepts are (or better: "will be") possible for red/blue missions. To the OP: In my experience, how often one takes part depends on the people and their expectations. When a group of similarly-minded players finds together, they're much more likely to stay so than if the group is a "second-best" choice. What do I mean? For example, training and learning from missions is one topic where the preferences are very different. Some only want to fly missions, and some also want to learn and improve from past missions. Mixing these groups has, in my past simming, never been too sustainable. Making missions and the problems with it is another turn-off. I appreciate the effort that every single mission, even if seemingly simple, requires, especially in the form of testing. When there is one person doing this heavy-lifting, there tend to be problems in the missions that only come to light during the session. That kills a lot of fun and long-term interest, but is hardly avoidable if a mission is complex, real life cuts into the prep time, or there are "last-minute suggestions" from the players. There isn't a perfect solution to this that I'm aware of. As discussed, having missions every two weeks instead of each weekend can help, as can prepping a stock of missions before the group comes together. This is, however, difficult for the mission builder as he lacks any feedback, gratitude, or learning experience while he slaves away in the ME... not very appealing. Another point, maybe less relevant to the OP, is the hosting of a mission. There has to be a reliable way to host the session, and no asking "who can do it this week?". That works three out of five times at best and effectively annoys people. I had this experience in one group I used to be part of, and when I joined one with a reliable hosting method, it was a difference of night and day.

Daher kommt meine Frage.

That post could as well belong in the "Too much A-10" thread :D I hope that link calmed her...

That could also happen when you have it between your lips (only) and somehow your arm gets poked... (Arrgh painful image in mind - I disgust having aching teeth!)
-
I observed myself while in a cocktail bar last Saturday (Pina Colada yay!) and funny enough, I too used lips only (hey, stop that - I didn't switch after we left the place!). But since I only noticed after the fact, I think that had more to do with the geometry of the straw and the glass than with any health concerns...

Nice, you managed to do with only three pieces of piping. The assembly looks very clean and rock-solid. Did you fill it with anything to increase stiffness even more? I like the center mount on the chair. If you eventually decide to get an extension you can even to without the stand altogether :) Thanks for posting the images! Supersheep

I'd start to worry if it goes over 0% :) Click on that Link in the 0 of 0% and see - no warnings for you.
