Anyone deleted DCSW 1.2 yet?
ChrisIhao replied to 56RAF_coventry's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Normally I would agreed, but 1.5 is pretty much rock solid so far to me. -
Run this program to see if your dpc latency is within acceptable levels. http://www.resplendence.com/latencymon. You could have some kind of driver snafu, which causes big spikes in latency, causing pops and crackles. However, these spikes has to be pretty severe for them to affect a normal "gaming setup". Audio or music production systems are very sensitive to these spikes, normally acting up if the latency is more than 2 ms high. Still, dpc latency is relevant for any pc that is streaming audio and video realtime. Read up on the subject, as there are a lot of info on the subject. The latency some processes and dll's cause in modern systems are horrendous, and the regular "sinners" are graphics drivers and network related ones (wifi).

Installing new C drive-deactivate modules?
ChrisIhao replied to sobe's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
/me getting popcorn. -
Couldnt find an appropriate section, but I felt a need to say: Thank you ED for realizing my dreams since starting playing sims on my Commodore 64! I am by all means no guru when it comes to flight sims, and I have barely skimmed the surface of the content of the DCS modules, but the level of pure enjoyment after finally getting the engine improvement of 1.5 (most of all performance wise) leaves me flabbergasted. Keep on rocking, and building the greatest sim universes of all time. Its deeply appreciated! :notworthy: Kind regards from a fan who have been playing off and on since the first LOMAC. Cheers! Chris

Yeah. Got this one as well. Its awesome, and it contains hundreds upon hundreds of pages I still basically understand 5% of.

Improved Towns & Villages Mod
ChrisIhao replied to Highwayman-Ed's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Hey Ed (or whoever accidentally know the answer to this one)! I'm planning on installing the low and slow version soon, but I'd like to clarify two things (having failed in my brief search foo): This mod doesnt get messed up on any DCS world (1.x) update, right? It seems great, but I'd like to have it work without having to spend energy maintaining functionality. Also, I'm guessing this wont mess up mp? I dont expect this to be the case, but you never know. Anyhow. Keep up your excellent work for this great community Ed! -
Nope. "As always, we’ve worked closely with a number of developers to enable SLI in their games and game engines, and we continue to work with Monolith on Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor." Link here. In other words, both Nvidia and ED need to work on this to get it working as it should. I can bet my life that Nvidia wont come chasing ED to get SLi working in windowed though. There are some conflicting opinions on if SLi can work in windowed modes in the first place (considering other games as well), but it seems like the general consensus is that it DOES work. Crossfire doesnt. What needs to be done for this to function properly I dont know at all (I'm not a developer), although I hope that DCS 2.0 will enable mfd's to be exported without using the "put them on another screen and grab" method, in case you use an ipad or somthing like that. I guess it wont. Oh, and another thing. If the heat blurs or "every frame" options are enabled, the SLi also seems to become inefficient. This also goes for fullscreen mode.

It would also be nice to be able to run in windowed mode with SLi working, like in fullscreen.

Exactly. Murphys law have rarely been so appropriate. Everything that CAN go wrong, WILL go wrong (sooner or later). -
My condolonces. Not being able to reach the appropriate speeds on take off can be deadly indeed. Here is a bbc article about the incident: http://m.bbc.com/news/world-europe-30991950

Oh. Sorry mate. I didnt see you post here. Didnt know I had to manually enable the notifications. Anyhow, there are two primary apps as far as I have seen. There is the DCS Icontrol one, which is exclusively made for the A-10c Warthog, and Touchcontrol which has a few user made templates for DCS games online, but is basically a customizable screen where you can add buttons that sends keystrokes. These work by running a server on your pc which sends information to the Ipad apps, and this basically is configured automatically. If you put a lot of work in it, you can create really complicated profiles, but for now I personally just make simple profiles so I wont have to lean forward to my keyboard when sitting back with my hotas. I also use an Ipad stand with a swan neck, so I have it in a comfortable distance by my throttle hand. Here is an example of a simple profile for the su-25's, which I will add features to if I feel like I need more (most functions are already mapped on my CH hotas): You can do screen grabs from both DCS Icontrol and Touchcontrol, so that you can import mfd's and in-cockpit displays to the apps on the Ipad. This works best with Icontrol, as the refresh rate is really good, but as I get really bad performance when running windowed fullscreen compared to normal fullscreen, I vouch to not use these functions. Even DCS Icontrol is practical even when not using this feature, as in particular the mfd buttons are hard to use efficiently by using mouse or keyboard. You also get a few things sent from the A-10c, like the present radio channels etc, which is a nice bonus. You can look for a few profiles for Touchcontrol online, although most of them need some fixing to work properly. I am offering you a link here to an edited KA-50 profile, originally made by jib on these forums, where I have removed a few features (that were buggy), fixed a few things and compressed the Datalink, PVI and some abris buttons at the bottom to a single page. It also has a countermeasure page I left in there, which is practical to have. I have also included the su-25 profile pictured above in this post, in case you want to see how I did that. The way it works is that you have "locations", which basically are profiles, while "activities" are pages that house "devices" that you can use across both locations and activities. You will have to experiment a bit though, and you will probably need some time before you understand how it works, but just send me a pm if you get stuck, and I'll see if I can help you out. PS: Touchcontrol can also be used for a bucketload of other things, for instance creating macros etc. for other games or programs, so I can highly recommend this app in general. Hehe. I can see that. To be honest, before moving in a few months I dont really have much space for this myself, so I decided to wait a bit until I'm finished moving until setting up this.

Interesting article about a F-15C maintenance tragedy
ChrisIhao replied to ChrisIhao's topic in Military and Aviation
Yeah, it must be really hard to be "trapped" in this situation. There have been many other cases as well, where the "guys on the floor" get subjected to so much pressure and injustice that they are driven to suicide. Remember, these are their jobs, and if they counter-attack they may very well be thrown out, as well as their family members who are employed by the military (as often is the case in the US military). Knowing that they are likely to not get another job due to recession etc, this must be really hard for some poor guy (or gal) to handle. Its ironic that they are not able to fix a darned half-baked color coded wire system in 10 years, before this event happened, and in my opinion the brass are the ones to blame here, both for the pilots life and Muellers life. The incident in the article is a dark, dark blemish on the reputation of the Airforce. -
Thanks man! I have compressed and edited the PVI, the data link and also the Abris buttons into a single screen on my Ipad, using an existing Touchcontrol profile, and it works really great. No latency and really practical as I am a "keep it simple stupid" kind of guy. I also kept the flares layout on its own screen for quick setup and activation. I will probably share the profile one of these days, but I'm considering adding a few more features first. Anyways, looking forward to downloading your profile and printing it out. I've grown really fond of velcro for modular designs these days, so I will probably use a laminated version fastened with this. Thanks again mate!

Yeah, I'm 100% sure of this, as I got eyes for these type of things after gaming for 20+ years, and also see that both gpu's utilize approximately 80-90% of the gpu's in Fullscreen SLi mode. In windowed mode around 50% is used on each, which usually indicates a non-functioning SLi setup. Its really an enormously satisfying experience to fly the KA-50 and the A-10c (which are the ones I'm playing atm) this fluently with TrackIR. For me its definitely the trees. Tree shadows doesnt matter much though. I could try increasing a bit more since I did a lot of the tuning running windowed mode with mfd exports. I see you are using a CH HOTAS btw. Love this setup, and the software is awesome. Actually just wrote a comment in the CH hangar regarding wanting a CH ffb stick. Get in there and support me. Lol.
-
Cool Reksi! Exactly what I wanted. I also thought of the need to do things quickly when using HOTAS the single most useful festure of this type of setup. You got that Powerpoint document readily available mate? Looks awesome. I will have to print out and laminate at work this weekend to get colours, so that would be awesome. I got the wheel brake mapped to my CH pedals, but I will map that stick as a parking brake if its possible to do it with the saitek software. Would be a breeze in the CH controller software... Thanks a bunch man.

Basically what the title says. I know that most people think that there is no point in using dual throttle axises, after researching this a bit, but I somehow feel that this perhaps would give some extra immersion as they ARE axises in real life, aren't they? I also think that being able to quickly reduce the throttle on one motor if its damaged while increasing the rpm on the other in some rare cases may be advantageous (not having to cut the damaged one completely), or do I miss the spot completely? A tactile control that feels somewhat like the real thing is always preferable as well, compared to pressing page up and down, and then the stopper before reaching emergency levels would actually have a function. I will use the Saitek Quadrant for this purpose. It seems like few, if any, use axises for these controls. Just interested in getting some feedback from you guys on these thoughts. Cheers!

The difference between running DCS in fullscreen and windowed mode with my GTX 770's in SLi mode is extreme. When running in windowed fullscreen the performance drops to a fourth of what I get in fullscreen, where the SLi is extremely well implemented, and I play at 2560x1440 on full settings w/ 4x fsaa (can use 8x), with the exception of the cockpit displays that run at 512. I basically get 60 fps (vertical sync) at all times once I have taken off, while getting approximately 42 fps on the ground on the most populated airstrips. Oh, and I have also turned down the tree distance to around 6000 meters as the image quality still is great on these settings and it takes unproportional more gpu cycles to render these at large distances. Running a single card gives about half of the performance of my SLi which is pretty logical. Still heck of a lot better than the windowed SLi mode. These observations btw proves that the cpu has nothing to do with the performance in my case (Intel 4790K @ 4.5 ghz). 16 gigs of ram. I have tried all kinds of SLi flags through Nvidia Inspector, the Rise of Flight one and the temporary Black Shark profile introduced in the official drivers and some others, but all of them have large downsides and basically no e of them runs nesrly as good as the default one in fullscreen. A shame really, as I cant justify using Touchcontrol and DCS icontrol on my Ipad (the last one WOULD work excellent if windowed mode worked, and I also paid a noticable sum for this one) or Helios for that sake. Hence I dont use the MDF grabs, but I think it still is great to have all the buttons and knobs available. I also modded a Touchcontrol profile initiated by Ed here And continued by jib, compressing the layouts for easy access, and I will post this here as soon as I feel finished with adding stuff to it. I also fixed quite a few errors in these profiles (probably due to DCS updates). I'm crossing my fingers for DCS 2.0 now, although I can live without the MFD's if neccessary. I actually feel that having too many panels in my eyesight can be a bit distracting, as I really love the "in the cockpit" feeling of the helis and planes in DCS with TrackIR. PS: Love these sims!
